    The process of getting a quote was easy. They were responsive answering questions about different options. They came to measure and do the work on Saturdays. We did not have to miss work and wait at the house during work hours. The price was competitive. We made an appointment. They were very punctual starting and finishing. The work was done very well. I am very picky and I only found a couple of minor imperfections. The installation team was very professional and courteous. They moved a few furniture pieces and answered all questions we had. The new carpet was left clean. The recently painted baseboards and walls only needed very few minor paint touch-ups. Two doors will have to be cut because the carpet is now thicker than the old one. This is not a problem for me because I can make the adjustment. This was the only item that was not discussed when they came to measure.

    The lack of professionalism from the beginning to the end of our dealing with Clawes Carpet was astounding.
    First, let me say that the floor itself looks nice. Getting there was painful.
    The problems began with our estimator. Aside from showing up 25 minutes late for our appointment (in late December) without a hint of an apology, he failed at what would seem to be the two primary jobs of an estimator: evaluating the current condition of our downstairs flooring to see what the job requires, and measuring accurately to order the right amount of material.
    When the tile guy showed up (Feb. 22) to remove the carpet and begin laying the new flooring, he was dismayed to see that we had old asbestos tiles under the carpet. They had to come out. Our initial contact at Clawes came to the house and was clearly upset that the estimator had failed to do a basic check, especially when those tiles are so common in our neighborhood. Everyone?s schedules had to be changed because the estimator didn?t do that part of his job. Obviously, if we had known the actual duration of the project, we would have been able to plan better.
    Clawes gave us contact information for an asbestos abatement company (Young Environmental did a good job in a timely manner for a reasonable price), which was able to do the work later that week.
    We got back on Clawes? schedule and a different tile guy showed up the following week. He laid most of the tile, but unfortunately, they hadn?t ordered enough materials to finish the job, so they would have to extend the project a couple more weeks until the remaining tile arrived.
    When the tiler came to put in the grout, I noticed it was a different brand and color than we had selected. He tried to convince me it was close enough. I didn?t want to delay the project even more (we needed to get the laundry room back and my daughter was tired of sleeping on an air mattress in her sister?s room). 
    Unfortunately the grout turned out very uneven in color. I understand it?s not going to be perfectly uniform, but some was near the mocha we requested, some was essentially white. I tried to explain the problem to our tile guy (we had a language barrier, so that didn?t help), but he tried to tell me it was simply the lighting in the room (despite the fact that white and mocha grout were right next to each other, under the same lighting). 
    Eventually, he acknowledged the mistake, and said he would return several days later to fix it. But he kept indicating that the problem area was the darker portion, even though I was adamant (and, I thought, clear) that it was the white grout that was problematic. Ultimately, I told him to leave the grout as is because I didn?t trust that he wouldn?t make it worse.
    When he returned a couple weeks later with the tile to finish the project, I mentioned that we still needed to complete the thresholds transitioning from the new tile to the carpet in the three downstairs bedrooms ? leaving the carpet and padding flapping free didn?t strike me as the look we wanted. He told me ?I just do tile, but I can try.? Although I wasn?t inspired by that, I just wanted the project done. But he determined he wasn?t able to do that work.
    I had to call Clawes yet again (now well into March) to request they finish the job. A few days later, I got a call from a contractor (James Keys of Keystar Designs) who could do the thresholds. He came to measure and get our stain preferences on a Thursday. A week (and a couple more calls to Clawes) later, the contractor called to say he'd install them on Friday. He called Friday morning to postpone to Saturday ... then Saturday morning (at 7:40 am) to postpone until Monday. He didn't call or show on Monday, and I finally called Clawes again on Friday. He finally did the work the following week, now into April. 
    All told, it took six weeks from the time the tile arrived in my house to complete the project. To be clear, this was one room and two hallways, and the room's not even that big. 
    I got the sense the owners at Clawes care about their business and their customers. But in our case, it seems they did a very poor job of vetting their contractors, and when things (repeatedly) went wrong, they left it to me to keep the project moving forward.

    We are very happy that we contracted with Fairfax Floors. Matt was easy to work with - he listened to my needs before preparing his estimate, gave me options across a range of products, yet never pressured me to do more than what I wanted. The price was very competitive and finalizing the contract was easy and efficient. On the day of installation, his crew arrived precisely on time, worked quietly, cleanly, and quickly, and finished the job with care.
    If there is one opportunity for improvement, I would suggest reaching out if there is a delay in receiving the materials prior to installation. When the time frame (between initialing the contract to receiving the order at their warehouse to scheduling the install) was longer than initially estimated, I had to approach Fairfax Floors for an update. I would have been more impressed with service if I was instead contacted first with updated information. To their credit, Matt was immediately responsive to my question about the delay, and, ultimately, we are very pleased by how the entire process went. I simply suggest this so that all aspects of customer service are equally excellent.

    Absolute Carpet Care
    I bpught the $249 coupon for three areas plus 12 steps.  On arrival (the team was absolutely on time) there was confusion about the cost as the team was not aware of my coupon.  They immediately phoned their office to get the information required and charged me the correct amount (the $249 already paid).  This was the only hiccup in the process and I was impressed that the team and their office resolved it quickly and without fuss.
    The cleaning was OUTSTANDING.  Frankly, I expected more stains to remain but in fact all the stains were removed (except a stain in one room from a red syrup drink that a previous cleaner also could not get out).  They removed stains the previous cleaners were unable to remove.  It was all done swiftly, with a minimum of intrusion and was finished in about an hour or hour and a half.  I will definitely use this company again .  Excellent value for money and outstanding service.

    Their estimate was competitive.
    They delivered the wood 3 days in advance to acclimatize to the home temperature and humidity.
    The installers were courteous and highly professional, and arrived on time.
    They removed the existing carpeting and moved the furniture.
    Screwed down any loose subflooring.
    Since the wood was in multiple grains and shades, they were very careful in assuring proper design.
    Did an excellent job staining and installing shoe molding and transitions.
    They left the house very clean.
    Removed all leftover materials and trash.
    Placed carpeting strips under heavy furniture, then returned the next day to put pads/sliders under all chairs and furniture.
    Will definitely use them again.

    The sales consultant, Elizabeth, was helpful. She explained their different tiers of carpeting and even explained why I should be careful when buying more expensive softer carpets, because they tend to wear/flatten faster given my situation (kids and pets).
    The installation crew showed up on time and did a pretty fast/good job. There is one seam that you can still see, but Roy Clawes came out himself (bringing coffee for us!) to inspect the seam issue and is making arrangements to get that fixed soon.
    All in all, the carpet turned out great.
