    Wyatt Billiards
    It went great as Wyatt showed up 15 minutes early at 6:45 AM and deliver, fixed and set the billiard table around 1:00 pm in the same day. The delivery and setup cost of $350 was great and the $100 for fixing the damage was reasonable. He even throw in a table brush for free. Wyatt and his staff were very polite, professional and considered, they are highly recommended. He also told me that he will come and fix any problem in the next few months free of charge.

    I will review both my local offenbacher location as well as the main office in Lanham where the services are provided from.  The sales representatives in Springfield, VA were nice  and the subcontractors they hired to perform the installation were competent.  However, that is where the positives end.  I chose offenbacher because they were in-line with other prices and seemed to have a large presence in the area, which I assumed meant they would know how to do the work properly (permitting, etc).  The following occurred during this two month + long process:
    1. They sent an Offenbacher technician out to inspect the gas line and make recommendations.  This took 3+ weeks to schedule.  The confirmation call expected to let me know my time window was not received until I called and asked when they were coming.   
    2. I agreed to his recommendations and purchased the recommended fireplace (vent free).  I ended up having to drive to the location to get the final proposal because they kept forgetting to email it to me for signature. 
    3.  The chimney inspector they claimed was required by city of alexandria came to inspect the chimney.  Paperwork was promised via email (they were a subcontractor).  I had to look them up online and call them to confirm a time since Offenbacher couldn't be sure of when (or if) they would show up.  Again, the promised morning call was never received confirming the time.  4. the gas line installer was scheduled for the following week.  When I once again didn't receive a call, I called the service department and was finally put in contact with the subcontractor - who claimed he was never given the report from the Offenbacher and didn't know what he was supposed to install.  I provided the report to him.  When he showed, he looked at the gas line and informed me that we should have been recommended to have a longer gas line installed to ensure consistent service.  He also noted that the distance from the burner to the mantle was insufficient and I would need to keep my damper propped open despite having purchased the hood I was told would alleviate this issue.  
    4.  I called Offenbacher and they realized they had not properly filed for a permit from the city to install the line.  This issue took two weeks to rectify because they were not properly licensed in the the city of Alexandria.  During this time, they informed me that I had an inspector coming on a certain date, which I stayed home for - but of course, they had not received a permit so there really wasn't an inspector coming.
    5.  A Permit was finally granted by the City and after the city inspector did the initial inspection, Offenbacher's subcontractor came back out to complete the installation of the line and logs.  the city performed a final inspection and everything checked out.  The city never requested a copy of the chimney inspection because it was not required.  
    Overall, the process took over 8 weeks and 6+ visit between the city (two visits) and the various subcontractors.  I spent another three weeks trying to get the paperwork from the chimney inspection, figuring I should keep a copy since I paid for it.  On my third attempt at getting a copy of the Chimney inspection from Offenbacher, I received notification from the City of Alexandria that Offenbacher had placed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for copies of my city permit at my request.  I had not requested any such thing or given Offenbacher legal approval to act in my name in this matter. I had copies of the permits as the city inspector hands them to you upon inspection.  Once again, my request was miscommunicated by Offenbacher between the various branches and departments.  Had the city not notified me of the request, I could have been billed - via my tax bill - for the service if it was deemed appropriate.  I most likely would have avoided this fee, but the principle stays the same - they informed the City they had my permission to file the request and I had by no means done so.  
    While the product was as advertised and properly installed in the end, I do not recommend going to Offenbachers.

    I bought a used pool table and needed it moved in less than 3 days.  I called over 10 different professional pool table movers and all of them stated they needed almost a weeks worth of lead time and would change up to $500 or $600.  When I called Hot Tubs & Pool Tables Outlet they immediately checked with their install crew and confirmed they could handle the job.  Their installer called me and confirmed addresses the day before.  He provided a 2 hour window of when they would arrive at the pick-up location.  The installer called me when he was 30 mins out.  He was on time and professional.  The disassmebly took about 40 min.  They reassembly took about an hour.  The installer ensured the table was level.

    JL's Pool Table Service
    I contacted Justin at JL's Pool Table in March to order the felt and schedule time to put together the table. I did not hear back for two months, and he did not return one phone call inquiring as to the status of the felt. When he finally called, he said the felt had been back-ordered, and just arrived. We scheduled June 4th for him to assemble the table and put felt on the table. He arrived on time on June 4th and discussed the best placement of the table. He performed the reassembly and felting. He took the bumpers wit him to re-cushion and re-felt them and said the would be ready in about three days to be put back on the table. We paid him $400 of the total of $680 for the services rendered thus farr. After a few weeks, I did not hear from Justin and called to inquire on the status of the bumpers and schedule a time for the re-install. He did not return my call. I have emailed and called him multiple times without response. I have search for alternative phone numbers online and not response. He still has my bumpers and has not returned any contact I have made through Angie's List or other sources. It's now been 5 months, and I have a pool table without bumpers.

    Bicycle Pro Shop
    I visited this bike shop for the first time. I purchased my own handlebar tape and decided, instead of attacking the job by myself, that I should let a shop do it. I also needed to ship my bicycle to Europe and asked for them to pack it up.
    The front desk person and the mechanic were fantastic. I dropped the bike off.
    When I went to pick the bike up, the price was over double what I expected. I asked for clarification. I didn't think to bring my copy of the paperwork, so I let the transaction go through.
    I came home, looked for my paper work, and called asking for clarification again, a second time, this time armed with my receipts given to me at drop off.
    That's when things got ugly. The person on the phone started to argue with me about what was written on my copy of the receipt, who wrote it and how it was written. The person on the phone admitted that the price in their computer system was one thing (the price quoted to me) and the price on the back wall that the mechanic goes by is another thing. He also admitted that items at different prices than what were quoted, were added to the receipt after they gave me my copy at drop off. I have my paperwork, filled out by them, in my hand as I write this review to prove it.
    The person on the phone did not handle me professionally. It started out being about the discrepency between what I was quoted and what I was charged. As I was on the phone hearing this man's attitude, instead of being nice to a confused customer, he made me feel lower than dirt for pointing out their errors.
    Despite the mechanic being top notch and the first front desk person being great, I can NOT recommend this place at all. A bike shop can't quote one thing, charge another, and then when asked for clarification, instead of trying to create a win-win with the customer, make the customer feel like a jerk for opening his mouth. That behavior is not okay. It's not okay at all.
    From now on, I'll travel the longer distance to get my bike serviced at the bike shop in my old neighborhood than go back into this bike shop again.

    Two days after calling it was fixed!!!? I didn't even notice that anyone had been by my house or undone and redone the cover on my boat.? Awesome I've used Bill (HelpUBillMarine) for a few years now.? He's done my drive maintenance many times and helped me diagnose what turned out to be a dead cylinder.? He is very easy to work with, very honest, and the fact that he is mobile (he comes to you!) is very convenient.? I would recommend Bill to anyone looking to have ANYTHING done to their boat.? If he can't do it, he won't try.? He'll just refer you to someone who can.

    Hammacher Schlemmer & Company Inc
    I have ordered twice in two years with Hammacher Schlemmer.  The first item ordered was discontinued and I had to call to find out it was discontinued and ask for a refund.  The second order was made on Dec 19, 2013 and Hammacher Sclemmer provided no reply to my email requesting status.  I have been checking the order status almost daily and today a status shows up and it is "backordered"  I called the company and the customer service representative told me it will be over a month before Hammacher Schlemmer receives the item and another 3-5 beore it shipped to me.

    Ran in with a wheel that had a valve stem that disappeared. While we waited, they fixed the problem. They didn't even charge us.
    They do work at fair prices, and give great and fast service. They are the best in Alexandria.

    Higgins Billiard Supply Inc
    I contacted Higgins Billiards Supply in December 2011 after finding them here on Angie's List. After a number of emails (17 across two months) regarding replacing pockets for my table that the dog had chewed and including pictures so the Higgins Billiards could match the style and color of the replacement pockets Kevin and an assistant showed up to my house to replace the pockets. When they arrived they did not have pockets in the color I had requested nor style. This was not indicated prior to them arriving at my house. I had medium or brown pockets with a shield. Kevin arrived with cordovan pockets with maroon tassels. I explained I wasn't sure if I liked that color and style. Kevin talked me in to going with them anyway and said the color would grow on me and that it was a and quot;trendand quot; now to have a two-tone look. During the visit Kevin noticed that I was a musician and requested an autographed CD which I gave him for free.
    After they left and I tried to let the color of the pockets sink in. It didn't and after two months as I was walking around the table have not used it since the pockets had been installed I noticed that two of the pockets were damaged and one had a cut in it. I contacted Kevin with my complaint about the color and the damaged pockets.
    Kevin: and quot;Please send a few pics. I will call or email to schedule a day to come see it. Kevinand quot;.
    I sent him the pictures and and he stated and quot;I will order another set. Kevinand quot;.
    Me: and quot;Great, thank you. Also I would prefer they match the color of the originals if at all possible.and quot;
    After three months of no response I wrote back to him with and quot;It's been almost 3 months since our last conversation. Please let me know the status of the replacement pockets described below. I think I have given a ton of leeway in this however it's getting a little too drawn out for any longer. Please do not take my laid back attitude as lack of concern for getting this taken care of.and quot;
    Kevin: and quot;Sorry, I did not get back to you sooner. The company that made your pockets is no longer in business. I have not been able to find the matching ones. I will try another supplier. Please remember I agreed to replace these under no obligation as you were present when the others were installed. I want you to be pleased. Just keep using the free pockets in the meantime.and quot;
    Four months later, without any follow-up from him, I sent and quot;I just wanted to check back in and see how things were coming along on this.and quot;
    To this day, another four months, I have not heard anything back from them. So this week I went and took on the apparently difficult task of locating replacement pockets in the style and color I originally wanted. In 15 minutes on Amazon I found a set and had them delivered in three days.

    A tremendous experience to bail me out of a bad situation
    I was on a bike ride on the Mount Vernon Trail. My wife and I stopped for lunch in Alexandria. I notice a part the tread on my bike ws torn and I could see the inner liner of the tire. We stopped into the shop to see what they recommended. Being 8 miles from home, I did not want to take too much risk. They confrimed my fears that I needed an new tire right away. I did not have my credit card with me, only enough cash for lunch and maybe a cab ride home. They offered to fix the bike and let me call in a credit card when I got home! Amazing trust in this day and age. They fixed the bike in less than 15 minutes and I was back on the trail. Called in the credit card when I got home with great appreication. I now have a new, high quality rear tire on my back. We live around the corner from another Big Wheel Bikes location that has also served us well. No question that my next bike related purchase or repair will be at a BIG WHEEL BIKES location.
