Flooring reviews in South Ogden

  • We bought a used house that had very old and worn out carpet that we decided to replace, hopefully before moving in. I contacted Vama flooring and talked to Sam and explained the situation that we would like to replace our flooring within the next week and a half before we move in. The next day Vahe, the owner came out and gave us an estimate and brought samples of flooring for us to choose from. Vahe is a very likable, upbeat, down-to-earth and honest guy. He was a pleasure to work with through the whole process and is very knowledgeable about his work. He said that him and a crew could pull all the carpet up in one day and could start the job in 2 days. The new flooring we picked out wasn't in stock so it had to be ordered. Vahe said it could be delivered on Wednessday and that they could have all of the flooring installed by Saturday except maybe the stairs. We felt like we could trust Vahe and agreed to move forward with the project. Everything went just as Vahe had said it would. Him and his crew work hard and long hours to get the job done on time, completely finishing the job and even a little extra without charging because Vahe thought it would add to the quality of the work. All of the crew were very respectful and kept the work sight clean through the process. My wife and I couldn't be happier with the whole experience with Vama Flooring, their customer service, quality of work, and our new floors!

  • GREAT!   I am so happy.   See paragraph above.   They hung beautiful new doors in my living room!  My large screen TV is now mounted on the wall.  I have recessed cam lighting, and they hung my wonderful new dining room fan/light.  The contractor and helpers were trustworthy, friendly, and knowledgeable.  I even felt comfortable leaving the house a couple of times and providing the contractor with my door key so he could close up when he finished for the day.  They had to pull up my new carpet (3 months old) to complete my job.  My carpet was stored safely at their warehouse.  They reinstalled the carpet after putting down new pad.  Then they shampooed my carpet.   They re-filled my antic with new blown insulation that had to be removed when my old ceiling was taken down.  They helped to move my heavier pieces of furniture, too.   Can I say again, I am very happy with  the results.

  • It was an overall good experience as far and service. Product too expensive; now years later we have come to realize that it is not very good quality like we were promised. The installers were sloppy and the carpet did not take long to ripple. The grout in the tile started to crack and fall out. We have some mold under the linoleum in the corners where water has seeped through. I understand it is years later, and nothing lasts forever; however these problems started approximately 3-4 years after install. We contacted the store and asked this to be repaired and they stated it was "out of the warranty time frame" We will not be shopping there again. It is time for us to replace all the flooring, and we will be going to another business that has much better reviews.

  • I bought a condo that had old original 3/4" parkay wood floors in the dining room, which
were a horrible brown color and had been covered with carpet for over 13
years.  I wanted to sand it down and then stain and finish to match beams in vaulted ceiling.
I got a bid from a local Ogden contractor and knew he was way over charging me with a $1,400 bid for about 140 square feet.   So I looked on Angie's list, and contacted a Floor Company from Angie's List (with an A) who said he'd come do an estimate and then never called again, and I noticed this guy had some very angry people writing review about him but he didn't bother to responded to a single one.  I spoke to a 2nd Floor company from Angie's List who basically told me that it wasn't worth his time to come to Ogden from SLC to refinish a 140 square feet parkay floor.
Then I found Hayden Fraser who owns CHFlooring on Angie's list and read all his reviews.  What impressed me was that he responded to his many good reviews, thanking people for their business.  The few negative reviews seemed to stem from people who were disgruntled about Hayden giving them advise they did not want to hear, and he responded to their complaints in their reviews and explained how he attempted to make things right.  This impressed me because a business owner should care enough to read their customers' feedback, and I felt he wanted to have satisfied customers
So I called Hayden.  He was polite and professional, and schedule a time right away to drive out to Ogden from Lehi to give me a bid.  He was not only on time but he was early.  He gave me a very fair bid of $800 to refinish the floor and install matching baseboard, and said the job could be done in one day.  A crew of two would sand down the floor, including the fine edges, and buffing out all marks.  Then a coat of stain (to match dark beams) would be applied, and a first coat of Swedish Finish (which is harder and clearer than polyurethane), would be applied, dries in 2.5 hours, then a second layer of Swedish Finish applied.  The whole job could be completely in one day.  His company, CHFlooring, accepted major credit cards including my American Express.  The others accepted cash or check only.
Hayden arrived on 2/21/14 with Cameron, one of his guys from his crew of 6 (3 teams of 2) and they got right to work.  Everything was done in a calm professional manner and they took care to contain the very small mess with sanding since the sander had built in vacume that sucked up much of the sawdust so the mess was minimal.  When it came time to apply the dark stain I thought I wanted, Hayden & Cameron made a polite suggestion to consider leaving it a natural color so that the dark lines of the now beautiful parkay would show through, rather than a dark stain drowning most of it out.  I took their advise and the floor looks amazing!!!  People who have come over just gasp at the transformation, and that it was done in one day.
Hayden & Cameron worked hard the whole day and cleaned up the little bit of mess.  They were friendly and casual but all business and hard work.  And the quality of their work was so impressive.  I would recommend them to anyone without hesitation.  What is amazing is that they did the whole job from 8am - 5pm, and that included a trip to Home Depot while waiting for the first coat of Swedish finish to dry, to pick up a piece of wood that separates the dining room parkay floor from the family room wood floor.
If I ever do more floor work, or am asked for a recommendation, I would think of CHFlooring & Hayden and his crew first.  Thank you for doing such a fantastic job, for being so fair and honest in your pricing, and mostly for being so reliable and professional.  I could not be happier with the service and the results, the parkay floor is truly stunning!  Thank you Hayden & Cameron for such good work.

  • I said I'd rather he looked so that there were no surprises. He said he would try to come by and I never heard from him again. I found another company on Angie's List, who did come out, gave me a bid, and did a wonderful job. I will post a review for that company and would recommend. I would not recommend Craig Barber.

  • Originally, I contacted Vahe to install a bamboo floor that I had not been able to install. Vahe found that the product was defective and could not be installed. He helped me choose a laminate flooring instead. Vahe made a special trip back to my house the next day during a snow storm to get my floor installed. He worked quickly and was very helpful with all of my questions. Vahe also made an additional trip back to my house to finish the baseboards because he had been unable to finish due to the worsening show.
I would highly recommend Vahe and his work. He was great at keeping in contact with me, he left the work area clean and neat, and his work looks beautiful. I am very happy with the finished floor.

  • Terrible first impression and experience. My husband and I walked into the shop early Saturday morning and there was only one sales guy there, talking on the phone behind a desk. After waiting 25 minutes while he remained on the phone, we finally walked out. At one point, I walked over to the desk and he looked at me, but continued his conversation. We decided that was lousy customer service and since he didn't care about us, he wasn't worth the wait.

  • The guy who showed up to remove the carpeting did so quickly but broke the baseboards in the process (not unexpected) but left nails on the walls. Next day the installation guys showed up and didn't know how to install wood flooring onto concrete floors so they had to send another set of guys the next day. I had to call the salesman several times to find out when the second crew would show up. The second crew installed the wood but didn't know how to tack down the carpeting next to the wood. When I called the salesman, after several tries, he said they would have to send out the carpet guys to finish the job and they would charge me another $60.00 to do that. The salesman also forgot to include the wood borders to transition the wood to carpet something he said he would take care of. On the days of the installation when we were having problems it was next to impossible to reach him. Overall, I thought they did a good job of installing the wood but a poor job of finishing the job.

  • They were here when they said that they would be and were very good about returning to follow up with the job that they did. It was an overall pleasant experience and they did a wonderful job of matching the color of our existing hardwood floor. The bid that they gave us was also right on the money.
