Medical Specialist reviews in Ogden

Started seeing him about 6mo ago and have seen him 3x.  Called with request for med refill for the first time on a Monday, then coincidentally developed an infection and had to be seen on Tuesday.  He mentioned my refill request at appointment, which I assumed was handled with the phone call. He said, "We can talk about your infection, or we can talk about your medications.  Which one would you like to talk about today?, " very parental and condescending.  I replied I came in for infection, but would need refill soon.  He said, "Gee, I guess you should have come and seen me sooner then, huh?"  Very sarcastic and arrogant.   Tried to review him on the U of U website.  My initial positive review was posted, but the negative review was not.  The Madsen Clinic is very well-managed, but this guy's ego is unwarranted.

Very quick and efficient check in process. Didn't have to wait more than 10 minutes to see doctor. He answered all of my questions and ordered tests that my previous doctor ignored when I requested it (BRCA test).

I have type 1 diabetes and needed a doctor who could take care of my needs and Dr. Herold has been doing a good job of that for the past 8 years. He has gone out of his way to help me get insulins free when I didn't have insurance and has ensured that I not be over charged for services provided. He listens to my concerns which is something I find most doctors do not do.

He is a very pleasant person and nice doctor. Some doctors are disinterested and want to get out of the room, but he takes time with you. He keeps me on track with my health. He prescribes anything that might be lacking.

Dr. Anderson was excellent. Arrived quickly, very competent, great bedside manner, smooth and quick with the scope, prescribed the right treatment to fix the problem, listened to the history I gave (airway obstructed for a few seconds, clutching throat) and explained to me why my son wasn't going to die (the attending said the inability to breathe was "probably a mucous plug", leaving me in terror thinking he was dismissing a life-threatening symptom).
Dr. A called later that night to make sure my son was okay, which he was. The bill was reasonable, no surprises. I've been to two ENTs in this town and he is by far my favorite. I recommend him and would absolutely take my family to him again.

Went to see Dr. Robin Houpe, one of the OB's located in the CIrle of Life. Love her! She is very informative and will answer any questions that I have, even silly ones. She will let my Husband get involved as well, which is what he likes.

Firstly, they have the absolute worst scheduling system I've ever had to suffer through. Appointments were made weeks or months in advance, and I don't think I ever waited less than 2 hours AFTER my appointment time to be seen. I understand that with pregnancy services, sometimes things come up and another patient might take longer, or have an emergency..but this happened literally EVERY time, and I saw them 1-2 times per month for almost 9 months. Something is obviously very wrong with their scheduling system. They need to book less appointments per day, or less total patients, or something. With my first baby, a couple years ago, I had a different provider and rarely had a problem like this.
Then, I had an issue about 7 months in where I was in a car accident and it caused me to start having premature labor. We asked Circle of Life to provide a statement to our insurance company, simply stating the fact that we had been having regular visits at their clinic for 7 months and had shown no signs of any problems prior to the accident. This was a fact, and they had records proving this fact, but they refused to make any kind of statement to our insurance company.
The biggest problem I had was this: I chose Circle of Life specifically because I wanted a midwife, and a female, and they were one of the only places that had one on staff. The midwife I was working with was good; I don't have any complaints with her directly. I met with her for 6-7 months and became comfortable with her personality and skills and the idea of having her help me deliver my baby. HOWEVER, 2 weeks before my due date, I was informed suddenly that my midwife had a major vacation planned in which she would be gone for a month. As they had no other midwives available, and I didn't have time to find another provider, I was forced to accept a substitute male OBGYN that I had never even met before to deliver my baby. No one thought it important to make sure that I knew about this far enough in advance to try and find another, trusted person to deliver my baby. My entire birth plan was ruined because of Circle of Life's extremely poor planning and service.
To top it all off, a couple months after the birth I received a bill from Circle of Life for a $300 charge that was supposed to have been billed to Medicaid. Somehow, Circle of Life had lost the scan of my Medicaid card and so they said they were unable to bill it. I offered to give them another copy of the card, proving that my baby was covered by Medicaid, but they refused to take it. The girl who I was speaking with at the office was extremely rude and inconsiderate of all the inconveniences I had faced by Circle of Life. They refused to budge, so I had to end up paying the $300 myself, due to their clerical error.
Please do yourself a favor and do not choose Circle of Life as a provider.

He listens to you. I think the staff is excellent and I don't have any problems at all. I think, the University of Utah and the hospital and sometimes you get to people as fast as you would like. His communication is excellent.

Please read your billing statements from Ogden Clinic diligently. The statement from one very routine 15 minute office visit had a CPT4 code with an unreasonably high charge. I Googled the CPT4 code number and it was for a procedure requiring general anaesthesia. My dispute became a several month long power struggle with medical billing. I eventually consulted with a medical billing advocate who advised me to write a letter to:

    Mark Shurtleff
    Utah State Capitol Office
    Office of the Attorney General
    Utah State Capitol Complex
    350 N State St, Suite 230
    SLC, UT, 84114-2320

It was not until I informed Ogden Clinic that I planned to resolve the dispute through the attorney general that they acknowledged the innapropriateness of the charge and removed it from my bill. I did not have to contact the attorney general but, in the event you have a dispute, it is his job to investige.
Angie's List published an article in their subscriber magazine about managing unreasonable medical charges that really helped me in this case and I expect will be helpful in years to come. For example, unreasonably high charges can sometimes be negotiated down to what Medicare reimburses for the same service. If you have a lot of medical bills, you may want to invest about $20 in a year long membership to Medical Billing Advocates of America, who will advocate for you if you incur unreasonable charges. Thank you, Angie's List!

I see Dr. Sobotka and also Nate McBride and I think they are wonderful. They are knowledgable and timely with their patients. I have had quite a bit of my family go there for various health issues who have all been very pleased.

Dr. Sobotka actually saved my life 7 years ago when I had full blown liver failure.
