  • Dr. Anderson was excellent. Arrived quickly, very competent, great bedside manner, smooth and quick with the scope, prescribed the right treatment to fix the problem, listened to the history I gave (airway obstructed for a few seconds, clutching throat) and explained to me why my son wasn't going to die (the attending said the inability to breathe was "probably a mucous plug", leaving me in terror thinking he was dismissing a life-threatening symptom).
Dr. A called later that night to make sure my son was okay, which he was. The bill was reasonable, no surprises. I've been to two ENTs in this town and he is by far my favorite. I recommend him and would absolutely take my family to him again.

  • Please read your billing statements from Ogden Clinic diligently. The statement from one very routine 15 minute office visit had a CPT4 code with an unreasonably high charge. I Googled the CPT4 code number and it was for a procedure requiring general anaesthesia. My dispute became a several month long power struggle with medical billing. I eventually consulted with a medical billing advocate who advised me to write a letter to:

    Mark Shurtleff
    Utah State Capitol Office
    Office of the Attorney General
    Utah State Capitol Complex
    350 N State St, Suite 230
    SLC, UT, 84114-2320

It was not until I informed Ogden Clinic that I planned to resolve the dispute through the attorney general that they acknowledged the innapropriateness of the charge and removed it from my bill. I did not have to contact the attorney general but, in the event you have a dispute, it is his job to investige.
Angie's List published an article in their subscriber magazine about managing unreasonable medical charges that really helped me in this case and I expect will be helpful in years to come. For example, unreasonably high charges can sometimes be negotiated down to what Medicare reimburses for the same service. If you have a lot of medical bills, you may want to invest about $20 in a year long membership to Medical Billing Advocates of America, who will advocate for you if you incur unreasonable charges. Thank you, Angie's List!
