Amazing I had previously seen a physiatrist in NY who wanted to inject me with anything he could, trigger points, Botox, etc. Dr. Adams does not do that unless it's necessary. she reviewed 2 years worth of history on neck problems I had from a motor vehicle accident, and based her recommendations for physical therapy before trying to push more pain pills on me. thank you Dr. Adams for treating me like a person and not a medical experiment

The microdiscectomy surgery was done early in the morning around 7:15am, and I was out of surgery by 8:30am and was sent home by 9:45am. Dr. Rothbart reported that the procedure went as planned. My back felt better immediately except I had problems with nausea from the anesthesia which had me vomiting all day. My wife finally called the PA for Dr. Rothbart, and got a prescription for a suppository to stop the problem. I followed up with Dr. Rothbart once, then his PA a few times, then I was placed in the care of the Spine Team physical therapy group. They had me feeling really good 60 days after the surgery, and I was released from their care with home exercises and stretching to do daily. It has been 1-1/2 years since the surgery, and as long as I limit my lifting to 50lbs max. using proper technique I have had no problems. I golf, and bowl using a 16lb ball without any pain. It sure beats how I felt before the procedure.

I saw Dr. Reeves for over a year. Very temporary symptomatatic relief through TP injections was the best that was ever achieved. I believe he and the staff want to help. But, if your issue isn't one they treat, you just continue with a frustrating waste of time. I went through weeks of PT that seemed very 'template' set. If you have A, B and C, your exercises are 1, 2 and 3. I had 2 expensive injections under anasthesia, to no avail. And, if you aren't any better, no one from there is going to chase you down to find out. You have to be a very persistent patient to stay on their radar. I finally realized there was nothing there to help me and left the practice.

For the less severe problems, Dr. Rothbart referred us to physical therapy or to try steroid injections (also departments at STT). His approach is very conservative and he performs surgeries only as a last resort. For severe problems, he performed surgeries on both of us.
In my case, I had 2 lumbar laminectomies over 2 years (L4/L5 and then L5/S1). My husband had laminectomies in the early 80's from another doctor and when technology wasn't so advanced. After 20 years, he started to have problems there. His whole spine started to have troubles. Dr. Rothbart fused multiple levels in his low back (ALIF 360) and more recently fused his entire neck.
Our opinion is that Dr. Rothbart and all of his staff are the 'cream of the crop'. We felt we received the best care possible and wouldn't consider going anywhere else if we are to have more problems in the future.
Do we live pain free? No. But, we can live fairly normal, active lives now...lives that include walking/hiking/golfing (all within moderation, of course). After having pain so bad that we couldn't move from discs shattered in our spinal cords, I think we are quite fortunate.
We both HIGLY recommend STT (Dr. Rothbart and his staff), the physical therapy centre (Justin and his staff), the ambulatory center for injections, and even Harris Methodist hospital (great facility and great staff). They are all world class!
