Home Builder reviews in Rockwall

We could not have been more pleased with the quality of the work as well as the customer service received when Gardner Construction replaced our roof. Clean up was quick and very well done. They worked with us when trying to choose color and matching our brick and overall with the style of our house. We highly recommend this roofing company because they were professional, provided quality service and we could not be more pleased with how it looks!

I hired these people after they claimed they could help with trades and suppliers and could help me save thousands . From the beginning it went bad their so-called designer was incapable of the simplest of task .They claimed he could reduce an architects plan to better fit the neighborhood in two weeks . After three weeks he came back with the same square footage frame and sheetrocked over some of the doors that went to rooms and didn't do any of the simple changes we talked about at the meeting . A half bath that I pointed out where to put he claimed he couldn't find a place for . Any student from a legitimate design school would fail if they turned this in for a project .Avoid Angel Alegra from New Dimension design . No one from Owner Builder Network helped me with their so-called designer and only got worse . He eliminated my front door made off the wall changes and had the back of the house as the front ( totally incompetent ) . Shiela Marlar the owner of this company was supposed to be helping me and she did nothing and Brad Wood said it was not his policy to help so I was left on my own . For bids they took months and after total failures from them to do what they claimed I checked and got bids for anything I wanted in one to two days, nothing took me weeks or months . Their bids were from one thousand to almost double for everything when they finally came up with bids . Some of their bids didn't even meet code and the first four things I needed to even start building they never came up with bids or prices . Avoid this company don't waste 20,000 .00 like I did and get nothing they claimed they could do . BBB has complaints on this company but doesn't print them and they aren't even showing they have complaints anymore on their website ??? DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY

DO NOT use this company. They charge money and do not get work done (stole over $30K in material). They screen your calls. Quality is sub par - we now have to repair all the plumbing, sheet rock, insulation, framing, electric....only things done right are slab and roof. Most work is not up to code.

I would not recommend Jim Benson Custom Homes.  In my opinion it was a very poor experience.  Do your due diligence, speak to his current home owners (not just the ones he suggests) and search the Rockwall County Court Records before hiring him.  I understand his business also goes by the names of BenBrow and Jim Benson & Associates.

We started our home search in October 2014. We selected Lennar as our builder in December and signed with them in December. Our initial completion date for our house was end of August. Home completed built was October 16th. Between weather and difficulty in obtaining permits, we did not move-in until Halloween, October 31, 2015, a full three months further along than when we had wanted to. While this isn't entirely Lennar's fault, they had data regarding how long it was taking them to get permits and they could have given us a more accurate estimate at the time we signed. While I say they can't predict the weather, they know that December to August, they're going to have weather, you got to build weather days in the estimate. Knowing what the weather's been like for the last couple of years, being crazy, you think they'd build that into the estimate. Their estimate was complete pie in the sky.

I really like our sales people & really wanted to like the building process, but it was just the worst building experience we've ever had.  There were multiple mistakes and delays.  For starters, they accidentally sold the same house plan on the lot next to ours & we ended up changing to a spec home, but they did offer us a good price with a generous upgrade allowance.
Design center - friendly, NO pricing available during selections, timing poor as they have to get pricing from corporate DRH on everything & their hours of operation are not the same, standard choices are a joke.
DHI Mortgage- ok- some friendly, some not.  One employee upset my employer by repeatedly asking for the same document to be faxed when it had been faxed 5 times.  Final closing amount was sent via email the afternoon the day before closing & no phone call, so I almost missed the bank hours to get my cashier's check.
Build issues- Paid for stone fireplace, but had to be ripped out because my 8 year old could have done better- no refund.  One of the workers Pooped in the attic & it dripped through the living room ceiling - they were apologetic & replaced the affected sheetrock.
There are multiple oddities to the house- kitchen nook light & window are centered in room, but don't take into account the cabinets so it is impossible to get a table to look correct in that area; the shower in master bath was completely dark as there is no shower light; the kitchen cabinet shelves do not move / adjust & you can't fit larger items in them.  The pantry shelves are spaced too close together & cannot hold anything slightly tall.  There are no towel bars other than hand towel holders; the dishwasher started pouring water out of the air spout during the first week, but the "warranty" service wouldn't come for 2 weeks; paint is really thin & easily rubs off with slightest touch; garbage disposal is extremely loud; there is a tile in the master that the pattern is opposite from the rest of the shower (as the tile has vertical lines, it is really obvious).
Things we have replaced / fixed so far (and we've only been here for 2 months)- dishwasher, oven/stove (our preference) - had to alter the cabinets for both as the dishwasher had a piece of cabinet above that had to be removed to fit the standard size new dishwasher; the range had been wedged in & the cabinets had to be planed down to appropriately fit the standard size range.  The garage door was really stiff and we had to have the warranty people come out even though the builder said it was fine (the warranty people were shocked that DRH said it didn't need anything).
Sad to say, but our list goes on & on.  I only write all of this to warn anyone who might be considering using DR Horton to build a home.  We ended up with a good house for the money, but the process was a nightmare.  If you can build with a different builder - do so!!!  If you must continue with DR Horton, do not believe a word they tell you!  Make your contracted closing date at least 2 weeks before you really want to close because they will NOT be on time.
We have not seen or heard from our sales people since we moved in (so no nice welcome letters, comments, "How's it going?" - nothing!) Truly poor customer service!

We know that he has done this to at least 13 other people. He is a liar, cheater, and a con-man. He started doing the work and then stopped sending people after he got the money. His work is very poor. Everything that he did was a problem. He used only 1/3 of the amount of screws that he was supposed to use for the project. Now we are having to re-do and repair the work that was done. He didn't live up to the contract and lost the job. He said that he would have the work completed in 90 days. It's been a year and a half and it's nowhere near completed. We have had to hire contractors to come out and fix the work that he has done.
