  • The installer was professional, punctual and efficient. He did not try to persuade me to purchase more equipment than needed. They respond literally within 1-2 minutes if we accidentally set off our alarm. They have helped me adjust the sensitivity of a glass break sensor over the phone to avoid waiting for a technician. They charge only $16.95 a month for excellent service.

  • We had been looking to transfer our alarm service away from a large corporation. We heard about Smith Thompson after asking for recommendations from our HOA social media page and the overwhelming majority came back with ST as the referral. I called the number on the website for more information and to ask a few questions and Jeremy R. was polite, professional, and was able to address each concern I had. We went ahead and scheduled to have them come out for the install and activation. We had a few new windows put in, as well as a new door and, as a result, new contacts and/or wireless contacts were needed to supplement. Both the contacts and wireless contacts were installed at a reasonable and affordable price. After installation, the tech went over how to use the system in its entirety and well as how to register the system with our town. Overall, I’m very pleased with the service and product we’ve received and would refer them to friends/family.

  • Called for info and idea of necessary equipment. No conversation whatsoever regarding specifics of my house such as size, etc, that might provide for a better interaction. I had to ask about motion sensors. I had to ask if my existing equip might be compatible, I had to ask how it's determined what/if any additional products might make sense or even be required. It was one of those conversations where I was made to feel as the customer, I had to figure out what questions to ask. I do believe they offer very competitive pricing, however, I am willing to pay for a better customer service interaction. I chose to move to another competitor and will very likely both pay more and commit to a long contract. I am sure someone from Smith Thompson will read and respond, which I find commendable, but perhaps they also need to mystery shop their phone operators and the competition.. No comparison, at least in my experience. One acts like you are doing them a favor vs. just another number. I have no experience with their service which rates outstanding, and acknowledge their pricing to be possibly the best available. Perhaps the operators should be trained to begin the conversation stating they only schedule appointments, not educate. This rating is solely regarding a phone call to gain basic info and schedule an appointment.

  • We chose this company based on Angie's list reviews and the fact that it was a local company. We contacted the company and requested that someone come look at our house and give us recommendations and an estimate for a system that would fit our needs. We were told that they don't do that. You make an appointment to have a system installed and they tell you what they are going to do and what it will cost when they arrive. Against my better judgment, I agreed to this and made an afternoon appointment. Scheduling the appointment was easy and the representative was very cordial over the phone. The morning of the appointment, the installer called wanting to move the time up three hours, just thirty minutes from his call. When my wife told him we preferred the scheduled time, he was quite unhappy and very rude to her. We changed our plans and were able or move the appointment up by two hours to accommodate the installer. When he arrived, he made a quick, cursory tour of the house and then told me what he thought we needed- door sensors and two motion detectors. It was obvious that he just wanted to get the system installed and get out as quick as possible. I asked him if there are different styles or colors for the detectors to make them less obvious. He said no , there is only one type of door and motion detector. He said that they're all white and I can take them down and paint them if I want. I told him that I wanted to incorporate smoke detectors in the system. He said no, that I would have to install my own smoke detectors in every room and hallway before they would attach one to the system. He said that the owner of the alarm company didn't want the liability if his smoke detector malfunctioned. He then installed the system as quickly as possible and left after giving minimal operating instructions. The sensors were screwed onto our ornate door frames at odd angles. They look awful. One pad malfunctioned within two days and was slanted on the wall. One sensor on the back door malfunctioned almost immediately. We called the company, who sent out a second installer. He installed a different style detector on the back door which was much less obvious, but left two screw holes in the door frame. He also replaced and straightened the crooked, malfunctioning key pad. Unfortunately, the new sensor still isn't working properly and causing false alarms. But, it looks better. We go to a lot of effort to have our house look as nice as it can. We thought that a local company would give more personalized service and a better installation. We were mistaken.

  • Cannot say enough how great the experience was. Worked with Ray, the owner, directly and he and his team went above and beyond in every facet. They set up the whole system plus walked us through all of the features and made it easy. Our whole system is wireless and linked to an app on our phones, allowing us virtual viewing of our home from anywhere. Ray and his team were just great guys and a real pleasure to deal with. We've had the system in for over 6 weeks now and everything is working great.

  • OVERALL:  Given the number of great "A" reviews this company has received and the fact that the workmen were very good and the owner, Dave, was very responsive, I am changing my review grade from an "F" to a "B".  My interaction with the telephone representative became very unpleasant and for that reason I will not use them again or recommend them.  This is my first poor review on Angie's List which I do not take lightly.  

    UPDATE:  Immediately after the workmen left my home, the owner, Dave, called to rectify the situation by honoring the original request of the "Big Deal".  We scheduled another appointment for the remainder of time/work to be completed and I purchased the Big Deal through Angie's list website.. The same crew arrived on time but somehow did not have the correct ladder to reach the two story ceiling.   We rescheduled again for the next day.  The crew, once again and for the third time, showed up but this time with the owner and with the correct ladder.  They corrected my problem and were on their way.  

    ORIGINAL: My window of time was from 12-2. At 2:12, the dispatch lady called and said they were running a little late, and they arrived at 2:20. They did the work in 12 minutes and did a good job.  Because there was so much time left on the hour,  I asked them about other electrical work that I could have them do for the rest of the hour. The workers were not aware the of the "Big Deal" and presented me with a bill for $125.  I called and talked to the same representative to clarify the situation  and after some back and forth, she said she would charge me $95, which is what the rate should be for the work they did. I said I shouldn't pay $95 for 12 minutes when I was told I could get an hour of work for $120! The technicians heard the whole conversation, and when I got off the phone with her, they said to not pay them, and they left. It was not my intention to get work for free. I am giving the overall grade of the company an "F", but the workman did an "A".

  • It wasn’t great but it was okay. They told me on the phone that they were going to give me a two year contract and then when they showed up to put the system in, suddenly it was a three year contract. So they misrepresented what they were doing until it was too late to back out. They charge an exorbitant amount of money for monitoring, which is $36 a month. I called around, I didn’t realize that there are really competitive companies that give that service for that price or less and there are plenty. So I can’t really in good conscience recommend this company mainly because of the price. That price is a complete rip off, no one should pay that much. Another company that is out of Tulsa does the monitoring; they might be connected in some way I suppose. I have had contact with them and they monitor just like everybody else expect for twice the value that it is actually worth. I don’t really have a complaint with their service other than just the price. The installation was not topnotch at all but just average. They weren’t special by any means. There is nothing on the windows; there is no glass breakage detector whereas a lot of other systems had that. So that is a big time minus. They are of mediocre quality. I just wouldn’t recommend them at all. I would just have to hire someone else to do it right next time.
