    OAK HILL FAMILY DENTAL CENTER
My wife and I recently relocated from Dallas to Austin and I had not had a chance to find a good local dentist. Yesterday, one of my crowns came off and I immediately did an extensive search (e.g., Angie's List, Google, NextDoor, etc.) and found the very highly rated Oak Hill Family Dental Center whose reviews and reputation stood out over every other practice I could find within a 25 mile radius. While this wasn’t technically an emergency situation, I wanted to get the problem taken care of ASAP and called OHFDC after hours to leave voice mail requesting an appointment. To my surprise, a very nice lady by the name of Carmen actually picked up the phone and said that they could work me in at 8:00 AM the very next morning! I showed up 10 minutes early with completed papers in hand (all downloadable from their website) and was immediately seated and attended to by Dr. Nelson and his RN/RDA wife assistant, Marian. In a nutshell, after checking my temperature and blood pressure, they very thoroughly assessed the conditions of my tooth and crown, determined that it was not possible to reuse the old crown (too much margin), fitted me for a new porcelain-on-metal crown (still the best crown technology in my experience as I still have one that is 35+ years old), and manufactured/installed a temporary crown to tide me over until the new crown comes in. And last but certainly not least, the entire process was completely painless, requiring neither numbing nor sedation during the tooth “trimming” process! Needless to say, I have found my go-to Austin dental experts and I will actually look forward to my next trip to the dentist!!

    Jeanne Taylor DDS
Dr. Taylor is brilliant dentist. She has been taking care of my teeth (fillings and caps) for about 15 years, the best dentist I've ever had. She's completely honest, never doing work that's not needed, and she's compassionate and kind without being sweetsy-touchy-feely-smiley, which some may value more than I do. I've had quite a few dentists over73 years of life, and she's the best, by far.

AMAZING! The whole experience was relaxed and easy for me. I am very sensitive and I really dislike pain. Dr. Reed was incredibly careful, attentive, and responsive when I felt a teeny bit. He quickly added more anesthetic and I have to say that I had such a good experience that I am looking forward to getting a crown done in the next month or so. The doctor, his dental assistant, and his receptionist Nancy all stayed late to allow me to have the chipped tooth repaired on the same day that I was scheduled for the filling. The chip had just happened, and they wanted to let me get both done at once to avoid taking more time off work. The chip repair is even guaranteed for 2 years! Dr. Reed is a perfectionist but he is very quick and calm. The staff is friendly and professional, making you feel like the most important client they have. The clinic is in a neat little house off Marathon which I liked much better than a traditional impersonal strip mall location. Everything is new and cozy at the same time. I recommend this clinic all possible enthusiasm.

They were prompt and took very good care of me due to the fact I was nervous. They prescribed me medication to take before to help relax me before procedure. It was painless and didn’t take long. Recovery has been easy and great. Loved Dr. Soma.

    OAK HILL FAMILY DENTAL CENTER
They are real good and real professional.  They did a good job.  They fixed my tooth up very quickly.  It wasn’t painful at all.  I called them I think on Monday morning at seventy thirty or eight thirty and they put a temporary cap on that.  They fixed it up after that.  They were responsive and quick.  They were really good.  I will use their services again in the future.

I ended up having a root canal.  In fact, after Dr. Nelson told me that I might need a root canal, I had consulted two other endodontists to make sure I needed a root canal because it was not obvious to me.   After that, I went back to Dr. Nelson and discussed how to best proceed from there since two other consultation gave me two opposite recommendations.  We decided to do a crown on the tooth first (to be conservative), and while a temporary crown was placed, I would know what's next.  That was the right way to go for me.  Unfortunately, the pain came back with a temporary crown on the tooth, so we decided to proceed a root canal from there.   This was my second root canal procedure with Dr. Nelson (the first one was done last year).  Dr. Nelson was very thorough in the procedure, checking with x-rays a couple of times during.  He is more conservative in his approach - he wants you to have your own teeth as long as you could - and I appreciate it very much.   I gained deeper appreciation to Dr. Nelson and Marian (his dental assistant and his wife - they are an excellent team!) who understand a patient's concerns - after all, I went other endodontists for consultations after Dr. Nelson's suggestion, but Dr. Nelson and Marian were very understanding and they were glad that I did come to conclusion of my own.  I am glad I did, too.  It is my tooth after all.   Dr. Nelson is my dentist and will be for a long time.  I am so glad to find his practice a year ago!
