  • Jimmy, the company owner, was WONDERFUL. The individual carpenter we worked with (who is no longer with the company) was lousy. Work went slowly, always behind schedule, and several things weren't done correctly. Jimmy worked very hard to get us straightened out and get things done right in the end, and I'm happy enough with how the finished work looks, but still can't unfortunately recommend the company.

  • The shower I picked ended up being too small after it was installed; Jeff said he could make me a shower as big as I needed so they tore out the shower and made a larger shower and tiled the walls and floor. It's a great looking shower. When they started the job they worked every day except Sundays. They were always early and did real quality work; they even finished the job 2 weeks early. Jeff checked  his work over like it was his house and found little things I would never have noticed. You can tell he really cares. He was on job at least once or twice a day asking us what we thought and even helping us make better choices when we needed it; some that saved us money and still allowed us to get what we wanted. That's when you know he cares about the person not just the money; you can't say that about many contractors today. I don't think of him as just my builder, he is now a friend. I say anyone who hires him will be glad they did, I know I am thanks and God bless.

  • DFW Improved truly understood our needs and our preferences right from the beginning, and they managed to exceed even our most demanding expectations.

Our project manager, Jeff Renfrow, has been an absolute delight.  He is 100% committed to our satisfaction - he completely understood what we wanted, and he went above and beyond every single time to deliver on that understanding.  He is a delightful person - always positive and tireless.  We nicknamed him our "quality warrior", because he always made sure every last detail was right.  His communication skills are tremendous - we were not living in the house during the renovation, so we relied on his reports to make sure we knew everything that was happening, and he kept us completely in the loop.  He was always available to us, always got back to us quickly, and always was totally honest about what was going on.  We will truly miss his presence when we are finished.

The design folks (Greg and Kristie) were visionary; they helped us think of ideas, both big and small, that we never would have imagined on our own.

Almost everything we had done was totally custom work - both due to the sometimes unusual requirements of the existing house, but also because of our own preferences.  We are, admittedly, extremely picky and we often demand more than the typical off-the-shelf solution.  This is an important house for us, and we threw DFW Improved some real challenges.   The level and type of work we required was very demanding, and tearing into an old house can easily uncover lurking problems that must be addressed before moving ahead.  We uncovered a great deal of game-changing details, but DFW Improved completely coped.  We had one major change-order when we decided half-way into the project to completely tear out and rebuild the master bath (including moving walls, etc.)  Although we had hundreds of small changes along the way, they never gave us any hassle about that whatsoever - they "rock and rolled" with everything we threw at them.   Just stunning client service.

In addition to the amazing management/direction/design help from the DFW Improved folks, their trades-people were really terrific.  They also understood the nature of the job - and they had great input for us, as well.  The quality of the workmanship we found was beyond even our expectations - everyone involved in the project had a commitment to extreme quality, which was exactly what we wanted.  They were also - to a person - some of the nicest people you could meet.  Painters, electricians, carpenters - everyone was positive, friendly and extremely professional.  They all went the extra mile for us - often without being asked, and in a million little detailed ways:  fixing a pocket door in an unrelated part of the house, just because it didn't slide correctly, replacing an old handle on a sliding glass door, coming back to change the finish on one entire room after we decided we didn't like our original selection - many times we just came in and found some little detail made perfect, without anyone even having been asked.

The end product far exceeds our expectations - so much so, that at the final walk-through meeting with Ron and Jeff, we spent most of the time talking about the next big projects we want them to start on (including replacing/renovating a few thousand feet of deck space, and some unusual interior custom cabinetry.)

We are more than happy with DFW Improved - we are thrilled.

  • Great, awesome, painless! We hadn't done much to our home in 8 years because we didn't. We were always too busy and finally decided that we weren't going to do it, so we called in the professionals. We contacted a couple of other contractors, but Dan VanPatten was so easy to talk with, the prices were competitive and after reading only rave reviews we chose them to do the job. Dan sat with me and explained their process and what we should expect. What I didn t expect was the follow through and the communication from Dan. Exceptional communication all the way through until the job was completed. We had the gutters done too (separate cost & report) so we knew that we had to get the house painted and then wait about a week before they added the gutters. He was thorough and on the money. The painters/carpenters arrived at home around 9:30am on the first day and left late in the afternoon (well past 4:30 5pm). I only knew that they were on our property because of the hammering. They treated my home and property as if it were theirs. They had three quarters of the job completed by the first day (i.e.: hardiboard installation around the fireplace, seal all of the trim around the house and sealing the windows). On the second day they finished the hardiboard installation around the kitchen nook and painted the entire exterior of the house. We have yet to see a drop of paint on the brick. These guys were neat, clean and very professional. We would absolutely hire them again for future painting or carpentry.

  • He did a good job.  I had to ask him to paint the garage door opener guides which he  then did.
