    Interior You
We started looking for a designer in February to help us with a remodeling project in our house that included the kitchen, family room, and half bathroom. We did a couple of other projects before without a designer, and they did not go very well. We wanted the guessing game with the contractors to be non-existent and we thought having a design at hand would help us with this. We contacted three designers that we picked based on A+ ratings from Angies list. One of the firms never returned our calls or emails, another one wanted us to meet only in their office and charge us only for a meeting, and finally there was Byron from InteriorYou. When I saw Byrons reviews in Angies list I thought he was probably going to be impossible to book. Looking at his website I saw not only the amount of projects and vast experience he has, but also the quality and scale of his work. He has been featured on designer segments on local news, and on top of that he has written a book about personal and business improvement, for which he has a radio segment. So my thoughts where that he was probably too busy to take on our project and that probably he was out of range. To my surprise, he returned my call quickly, which said a lot about the way he treats his clients (like they are the first and the only). He proposed to meet in our house so he could get an immediate idea of the space and also our taste. That for us was the way we thought a designer should work. Our fist meeting took about an hour. We talked to him about our vision and he explained to us how the designer process works, and that he would be with us every step of the way. After this first meeting we knew that he was the one. He put together a bid in less than a week, and his price was very reasonable, especially for the amount of time that he dedicates to each project. His bidding includes not only time for designing the space, but also materials and accessories time, as well 3D renderings and virtual reality of how everything will look after is done. My husband is a very visual person so this helped him a lot. After we signed a contract he took time to meet again at the house, and he was with us for about two hours. We looked at inspiration photos with him, he got a sense of our vision, and he gave us his vision of the space. By the end of the meeting he could see a photo and tell us if we liked it or not. He listens to from beginning to end and puts his own creative spin on the design. Byron also has an engineering background, so when he designed our space he took into account any structural modifications that may have needed to be done to help us avoid any surprises when getting bids from the contractors. He sent one of his employees to take measurements in our house and after about 2 weeks he presented about 4 rendering options to us. We picked the design elements we liked best and then he kept working on every detail until we loved it, he made as many changes as we wanted as he really wanted us to be super happy with our choices. After the final design was done, he showed it to us on his virtual reality program in our house. It was incredible, because we could visualize the final product exactly as it should look like. We also received the 2D renderings and a contractor package to send for bids that included his information in case the contractors wanted to contact him directly with questions. But his work did not end there. He took the time to be there with us when we where meeting with the contractors for bids to make sure we asked the right questions and also to make sure that the contractors would give us an accurate scope of the project based on his design. One of the construction companies, which is rated A+ in Angies list, was his recommendation. He has worked very closely with them in several projects and they had the most detailed bid, so we ended up going with them (their review will come later on the year, but really good so far). Byron is still helping us on our project as we just went to pick our materials. In any other occasion that could have taken at least half a day, but Byron knows us so well now, that he knew exactly where to go, and exactly the material we would like, so it really took us less than two hours. He also met with us back at our house with the cabinet company to explain the layout to them and make sure they understood even the smallest details. Needless to say he has been available to us 24/7 and he has done way more than the specified in his contract. The construction process has not started yet, but as I said at the beginning, he will be with us every step of the way. I cannot believe how lucky we are we found him and I know he will be our designer for ALL future projects. I just hope we have enough time with him before he gets snatched by a designer TV network, because with the quality of his work and the incredible human being he is, it wouldnt surprise me if thats his next step.

On June 11, 2015 we closed on the house early before all the work was done due to my family living in a hotel while the work was being performed. A year later the work still wasn't finished and they were still working on the house. We were told to place a pod on our driveway and move all our furniture into the pod while the builders worked in our home. They convinced us that this process would be fine stating they do it all the time. The second day one of the workers told my wife he had recently been released from prison complaining he wasn't being paid enough for his work. Her wedding rings came up missing and we had the police come out to do an investigation, but they were unable to find the workers because they were subcontracted and not vetted at all. Heritage Homes did not even have the last names of these individuals. Months later Heritage Homes blamed the subcontractor for what had happened. This company has a systemic problem of shifting the blame for problems to the consumer. From the consumer perspective if the company tells you everything will be fine the liability should fall on the company. In this case I want Heritage Homes to replace what was stolen being my wife's wedding rings of 20 years.

We have an awkward lot, and they worked several iterations with us to find a feasible plan. The smaller plans had a higher price psf. We loved their plans, the quality of the finishes, and they had some marvelous suggestions that we wanted to incorporate. They also had a good command of pricing for add-ons.  They were less flexible on certain options - e.g using spray foam insulation, or using our own vendor for cabinet hardware, Ultimately, we wanted a more custom solution, and we have found a custom builder that we are working with. We did find them easy to work with, and would recommend them.

Great. The gentleman even took the time to discuss the different venting options since the builder "forgot" to put in the ridge vents when they built the house a few years ago for the original owner. He could have sold us his "solution" but rather he recommended we go back to the builder and make them fix the issue. We did as he suggested and now have proper vents.

I put A on professionalism because they are truly professional (in pricing everything and rushing to complete the house). Quality, who cares? Windows are not in correct shape. Termites show up in garage even before moving in. Warranty claim? Nope, not covered. You are on your own from now on.

I think they put a lot of quality into their work, and I really appreciated that.  They did an excellent job, and make sure to follow up all the time.  If there is something that needs fixed, they do it.

The quality of some of the work is questionable. Example, they framed one of the master closet doors from inside the closet. How that passed inspection is beyond me. But they fixed it and it looks fine. During walk through we saw several places where texture didn't match. They fixed it. One of the brick columns outside was cracking. They fixed it but used a totally different color mortar. Careless and sloppy errors. I'm still finding things since moving in. But haven't complained because I'm tired of it. My closing process. The people in their office in North Houston were super friendly. They busted their butts to get my closing done on time. It was not easy but they worked really hard. Happiest people I have ever worked with. Truly customer friendly. The customer care department for after the sale and warranty department are very responsive too. I just question who they have building the houses and how much experience they have. But the house is nice.

    Luigi's Custom Woodwork LLC
Very friendly and knowledgable contractor.  Luigi arrived to quote on time and took all the relevant details down, asked great questions, gave us an approximate quote which was higher than we expected but I have no doubt would have been high quality work.
Luigi provided a verbal quote and said he would follow up with a written quote in a few days.  However he did not follow up again with us and we awarded to the other contractor.  He may have felt the job was too small.

    Perry Homes
It went very well. We have a two year warranty on our home and Perry is prompt to fix things that are normal happenings in a brand new house. Someone made a mistake and put the wrong colored hinges on the front door so Perry replaced them so they would match the rest of the house. The back door was broken and had to be replaced due to the latch not catching. After the new door was installed, it began to sag and they were right back out here making it right. It seems that there are professionals who have a good deal of patience working with clients. We are at the end of our first year and they have assured us that they will be here for another year to take care of any problems we may run in to.
