THE PERALTAS Remodeling & Services INC.
These guys are AWESOME! I almost wonder if these guys are angels sent from Heaven to help me get my house in good repair because they were certainly an answer to my prayers. I will absolutely hire them again. They can handle it ALL! We hired a heavy timber craftsman to build a small truss porch for us after wed torn off a large covered sundeck from the back of the house, but the timber carpenter did not do shingle or cornice work. So, we hired The Peraltas to finish out the construction of the porch and tie the porch roof line into the house. The Peraltas carpenters did EXACTLY what we asked them to do! They built up the truss porch roof with a rafter overlay, added roof decking, flashing, and shingles. This allowed the roof of the porch to have fascia board to tie into the houses fascia board. The Peraltas carpenters removed all the old siding and insulation from the back of the house and replaced it with new insulation, new backer board and Tyvek wrap, and they installed Hardie siding on the exterior of the house. They replaced all the fascia board and soffits boards with Hardie material, too. They installed a new 70 x 70 window, replaced a 5 wide set of French doors with a 6 wide set (which required some re-framing), they removed a small kitchen sink window and framed the wall to close that former window space, and they installed and framed out a new 5 wide bay window. Installation of this new bay window required some plumbing to be re-routed in the wall no problem, The Peraltas have plumbers that did a great job. Installation of this bay window also required some electrical work inside as well as some demolition of kitchen area, which they handled perfectly. They added some light fixtures to the back porch as well as some exterior electrical outlets and they finished off the job by painting the siding, soffits and facia boards (the timbers and doors are going to be stained later). These guys worked in the cold and drizzle to get this job done. They worked in muddy conditions to get the job done. They were on time, cleaned up after working, hauled off all of the trash. and raked and swept their work area. They are respectful, courteous, and take pride in the quality of their work. It is my hope that they will take on my kitchen and staircase remodeling projects.

    Ace Custom Building
Absolutely wonderful! This is the 4th job he has done for me and as always exceptional work. This was my biggest project yet. Ivan had so many great ideas to add to what I already had in mind. He made my dream come true. There were a few surprises found when gutting the rooms but he worked around them and made it even better. His attention to detail and expert workmanship is exceptional. I just love my remodel! It feels like a whole new home everyone who see it is impressed. If you want the very best you need Ivan Custom Builders ! Then when all work complete there was a leak coming from upstairs down to my new kitchen! Ivan to the rescue! He had to tear out a large portion of the shower upstairs and repair an older remodel done by someone else I am so thankful for Ivan and his crew!

Eric and crew did an excellent job and we are very happy with the finished product. It took a little longer than planned but more our fault for adding scope after job started. All of his craftsman were exceptional and professional. They were punctual, showing up exactly when the days work was supposed to start. I've done several remodels and that's not always the case. We are planning to use Distinctive Design soon for a backyard patio project. I recommend them and would not hesitate to use them again.

We began by having Distingushed Designs remodel our master bathroom. Once walls were opened, they found several problems, which were addressed immediately. In each case, Eric Fowler showed us the problem, and gave us possible remedies and costs. Never once did his crew go ahead without us knowing what was happening. After that successful project, we contracted him to remodel the kitchen, fireplace, powder vanity and install iron balusters and wood treads and risers on two stairways, and tiling in secondary bathrooms. He also provided subcontractors for polishing the entry way, repointing brick, laying carpet, and repairing wood flooring. After comparing several companies, and seeing the quality of their work, we feel that Designs work is priced fairly, and that Eric Fowlers knowledge of building techniques and his skills is exceptional.

Diego and his crew were great! They completed a full home remodel for me and I could not be any happier with the results. Diego and his crew were very attentive and responsive anytime we had a question or concern and I would highly recommend them.

    Cambridge Doors & Windows Inc
Mike and his team at Cambridge were great to work with and I would recommend their services to anyone looking for replacement doors or windows. Our front door is gorgeous, we get compliments on it all the time, and the security features that Mike includes as standard make me feel so much more secure. Mike delivers a high caliber of quality that you won't find with discount doors - but his prices are reasonable and the service is impeccable. The team that came out were professional, knowledgeable, and considerate to our time and home cleaning up after themselves and ensuring they were as quite as possible during install. I just had Mike out again today to measure our exterior garage door. It is amazing to deal directly with the owner, and when you meet Mike you know he has your safety and security at heart when he is making recommendations for the best product, at great prices! If you need a new door or windows, contact Mike and his team you will get 5-star service, great products, very competitive/reasonable prices, and phenomenal customer service!

Trust is what Eric earned from me at the end of the restoration/renovation project. I was devastated as a flood victim of Hurricane Harvey and by a horrible experience with a contractor who had taken me for a ride for more than 9 months. I found Eric and two other contractors from Angies List when this contractor continued to miss his project deadlines and delivered the service with poor workmanship. Eric was the first to respond to my request for a quote and gave me a fair price with an estimate to complete the project within two or three months. Being hurt financially and emotionally by my last contractor, I was very careful with my budget and in dealing with contractors. I reviewed every detail of Erics estimate and questioned some of his work /recommendations. Eric had a good attitude and told me that he understood where I came from as he had other customers with the same situation. He tried to explain things in ways that I could understand and assured me that he had my back to put me at ease. I was skeptical at first about his assurance. As the project progressed, Eric convinced me bit by bit that he is an experienced, trust-worthy person with compassion and integrity. A lot of work performed by my last contractor had to be redone, including the kitchen cabinets, fireplace, and all the work in the master bathroom (shower, tub, cabinets, tiles, etc.). Eric gave me advice on what should or should not be reworked to maintain my budget. He showed me why demolishing the master shower built by my last contractor was a wise decision not only because of the poor workmanship that I could see but also because of the structural issues that I couldnt see. If I had kept the shower, I would have encountered mold and drainage issues very soon. When Eric saw other issues along the way, he always brought them to my attention, provided his recommendations, and let me decide whether or not to proceed. Having seen all the quality issues identified by Eric, I made a decision to expand the project scope to redo all the work completed by my last contractor in the upstairs bathroom and vanity rooms. Eric prides himself on providing quality services and exceeding customers expectations. I told him that he just needed to meet mine because I am a person with high expectations and a keen eye for detail. He, however, wanted to exceed my expectations. When his subcontractors caused some issues during the project, Eric took the responsibility wholeheartedly, even though he had to give up some of his family time on Christmas Eve or pay another subcontractor at his own expense to address the issues. When I pointed out some cosmetic issues with the paint job, he did not hesitate to address my concern, no matter how minor the issues were. Eric completed the job (with the expanded scope) in 3 months with great workmanship. I am very pleased with the outcome. Eric is the person who will do what he promises. He has not only exceeded my expectation but also earned my respect and trust.

    A Better Painting Service, Inc.
I have held off writing the review as I was raised to now write when angry but I think enough time has passed I can share my experience from a less angry place. During Harvey the flashing around out chimney failed and we had water coming in through the center of our home impacting the attic down to the first floor. I reached out to a neighbor and was put in contact with A Better Painting Service, Inc. - relative of another neighbor. Initially, everything was great. Owner was very responsive, seemed very knowledgeable. Crews arrived quickly and did the demo so the drying process could begin - I am very appreciative of this. Owner worked with me to provide quotes needed to file insurance. Also appreciative of this. Per my request to not interrupt the holidays he agreed to start repairs in January (Harvey was in August/Sept) but it took some time to do the proper remediation and drying out before reconstruction could begin - even with it being rain water versus flood water so that was all okay). Initially again all seemed to be going well. Tile guy was great, although they would set up their saws with no protection underneath on my pool deck so there is damage there that I can't easily repair. Owner tried to clean but unfortunately it resulted in more damage to the pool deck. I asked them to please stop trying to fix it and he did. The grout on the tile came in white versus colored. Tile guy says they didn't get the right grout to work with - to fix it Owner had tile contractors hand paint with brushes the grout lines - painstaking work which I appreciate but extended the days it took to finish the tile work. I have learned since that this will wear off and I will either have to have the grout repainted/touched up in high traffic areas or replace altogether. Cheaper for me to repaint and may not sound like a big deal, but would not be an issue if corners weren't cut to start with IMO. Drywall guys - great! Had to outsource plumbing work - okay, but in retrospect would have cut that from the contact and used my own plumber for about 1/2 the price (markup I am guessing for Owner?) although he said it was at his cost. If so, he has a very expensive plumber (I don't recall his plumbers company name). Replaced tile on fireplace wall - guys did a nice job except there were some spots where the tile group wasn't properly cleaned. After a long period of time I am happy to report that the cleaning attempts have finally worn away and the fireplace does look really, really nice. Painting in most rooms was done well - and we painted nearly the entire inside of the home. They weren't really all that careful in areas though and we had to have them come in and do quite a bit of cleaning/touchup after rooms were done. I was told this was normal, but towards the end of painting in the master bedroom/bathroom I think the Owner lost patience with our requests to have things done right v. just done. I worked from home during this time and would often come in and see painters sitting in the room talking, listening to music or often laying in the garage just hanging out. It took several days on the smallest section of the house which really should have been done quickly. Despite taking photos and pointing out issues they were either not addressed or not repaired properly. To this day there is work that is unfinished - baseboards for cabinets that are still raw wood with pencil writing on them and where they dripped blue paint on the back of the white panel bedroom door instead of cleaning the paint drips they painted white right over it. You can easily see the blue spots through the white paint. in the kitchen we were supposed to have Sherwin-Williams paint that would withstand smudging (not the highest grade paint they make, but not the cheapest). I did request a higher grade paint in the back staircase given I have kids and they touch the walls regularly. Both paints were supposed to allow me to wipe off any dirt/spots easily. Not the case. I had Sherwin-Williams to the house to check the paint - they took a sample back, tested and said I did not have the proper paint but the lowest quality version hence when I try to clean the wall the stains and spots get worse. Bottom line I will have to hire someone to come in and redo all the work. Luckily I have since found the most wonderful painter that I am more than happy to recommend to anyone in the greater Houston area - just let me know! During the painting process I wanted to fire the contractor but my husband talked me out of it. As time when the Owner was increasingly difficult to work with, particularly when I would question costs of items or things invoiced to me. I suppose he probably decided I was high maintenance as well (apologies for wanting a job done right, willing to pay for services, but not interested in being taken to the cleaners). Finally we got to the carpet - much of my house. As I had done with the tile for downstairs early on I asked the Owner for an allowance so I would have some guide as I selected the tile - same again with the carpet. The red flag for me was that basically he limited me to one tile contractor - again, a major red flag, but we just wanted the job done and to have the house back so against my better judgement I let the project continue. We got the carpet. I had to closely monitor the work throughout as when I didn't they did not do a very good job. Loose on the staircases for instance and I would have to ask them to fix - now I know they did not do a good job. I also think I overpaid for the carpet we received. It's okay, but it's not holding up and it was installed in March. In lower traffic areas even it is starting to fall apart and shred. So I will probably have to have more carpet work done at some point in the future. Before I paid the final bill I painstakingly reviewed the contract v. the invoices paid to date and in the end I told the Owner there were things I would not pay for - mainly work that he did not complete. Most notably the blown in insulation in the attic which after his crews left I sent my husband up to check and make sure the work was done (thinking I would have remembered a truck coming to blow in insulation at some point. Sure enough there was not any insulation in the attic where the repair work was done. I did not pay for this. I already mentioned painting either not done well (I paid a percentage only recognizing some labor and supplies were provided), etc. We did settle, but I also know he was told others that I "cheated" him out of money. If I hire someone and they do the job they were hired to do well then I pay. Never ever had issues with anyone before - but also had not ever had a project this big before. I didn't give the worst ratings here across the board because it wasn't always bad and the work wasn't all bad. I would not recommend the company though. I also know that if I ever do hire a general contractor (side note - he is a painter by trade, not a general contractor by his own admission and site advertising - I would recognize this moving forward and if I do hire a general contractor I will hire a general contractor v. a painter to be a general contractor - my approach anyway). I know more questions to ask up front and as things go along. I also know to do a cost plus arrangement so I know that if I select materials that are less than the contract that I am not paying additional money just because and also that I am paying for what's used on my job and the contractor isn't pocketing the return or using on another job (can't say if that happened in this case so not making any suggestions regarding this company/Owner. He did not leave "extra" boxes of tile for instance and there were nearly 10 boxes not used but not sure what happened to them as I did not have a cost plus arrangement/contract with this contractor. So many lessons learned on my part. Glad this is over, know there's still work to do to address some less than quality work done but glad to have my home back and worker free for these past months.

The work went well, but it took long time for the contractor to respond, and it appeared that the work specifics were not communicated to the actual technician doing the work, so a few things could be done better by this contractor.
