    Make Ready Renovation
Clay and Make Ready Renovations were able to address all my needs associated with a complete remodel of a rental property to make ready for listing. I was on a very tight time schedule and contacted Clay the first week of December. Clay was able to complete all renovations on time, on budget, and greatly exceeded our expectations with quality, responsiveness, and professionalism. Since the property was located 50 miles from where I lived, I needed one person I could communicate with who could oversee the work. In the four weeks it took Clay to complete all renovations, which included dry wall, painting, carpeting, plumbing, a new roof, fencing, landscaping, etc, I only had to make two trips to the property. I listed the house for sale by owner on January 10th. It was under contract January 29th, and we closed February 15th, receiving full asking price. I highly recommend Make Ready Renovations and intend to use them again in the future.

    Unique Outdoor Patios
The workers arrived early the first day and were very organized in who does the different types of work. Efrain Garcia is very easy to get along with and he dealt with the payments, HOA rules and the receipts as well as doing the framing and screen work. The owner, Jose Reyes, is a delightful man who looks like he really enjoys his work and his business and took the time to explain each phase of the project. This company also went out of their way to present all of the plan applications to our HOA in this neighborhood. They worked non stop each day and into the evening after dark (with lights on). The work was excellent and the detail was amazing. The crew has great experience and a terrific work ethic. Prices are reasonable and I would recommend them highly.

    Complete Outdoor Concepts
As I said above, the project was completed on time and on budget with a minimum of delays, mostly caused by weather. I had access to the contractor at any time and they usually answered my inquiries within minutes or at most an hour. As an example, the foundation soaker line was leaking where it was reconnected and I called them. They answered me back within the hour and had a crew back out to fix the problem within 24 hours and I have had no other problems with it, I have talked with neighbors who have also used Complete Outdoor Concepts and they also are very pleased with the final completed projects, whether they were enclosed patios with extended rooflines or outdoor kitchens.

Originally I had wanted the door repair only. When Jerry came out for the estimate for the door, I began asking him questions about this ongoing problem I had  with this roof leak after a sunroom addition, never thinking that he might have an answer. The sunroom co tried but didn't have a clue! I have had several people out for estimates; either the price was in the thousands or they wouldn't touch it. Some gave me estimates but then would not respond and these were names I got from Angie's List.  It has been a nightmare for over 2 yrs!  Most want the easy, quick money, fix. I could see right away that Jerry was thinking outside the box. He gave me hope that my problem  could be resolved. I am a single, senior citizen so having someone I feel I could trust was big for me. Then I had the great pleasure of meeting his staff. I was ready to meet someone I didn't like but each and everyone I met was top-notch and they were all respectful of me and one another and Jerry respected them, singing their praises.  "My guys" were Ezekiel, Jose, Eric and Alex, all with their own area of expertise.  They, and all the people I spoke with in the office were outstanding. I cannot say one negative thing about any part of my dealings with this company.  Thank you all so very much.

They came out, and I did not really trust the guy. The price was okay, but they just wanted to sell me something then and there. They were not patient. If we did not use somebody, we probably would have gone with them because it was the best deal.

    Nelson Home Improvements
Rob and his crew were not punctual when they did show up to work and very inconsistent on whether or not they even showed up to work at all.  I had to consistently call after waiting several hours to find out they they were not even coming on several occasions.
There was no order to which they worked on tasks.  For example, Rob and his crew put in wood flooring and half of the space before they added a skylight, did any trim, or stained any trim or woodwork.  They worked on the floor, scratching it with fallen nails, tools, and other debris that built up as they cut additional materials in the space.  Any work debris was left to build up in the space, including materials and garbage.  They left additional piles of debris and work materials in the garage, leaving it unuseable.
The work that was completed is shoddy at best.  Lighting was placed where it was convenient vs. spaced correctly.  The dry wall is uneven and the seams clearly visible.  The wall corners are rounded although where is meets the rooking is squared.  Trim was put up around one skylight, but not the other.  The floors squeak terribly.  The wood floor was only put up in half of the space and Incorrectly at that.  The door into the space is unfinished and rams into the trim on one of the skylights.   I addressed several of these concerns while the work was being completed.  But Rob assured me that it would be perfect, that he was a perfectionist, and that I would be happy when it was all done.  Well, I am NOT HAPPY!!!   I basically have a big unfinished knockout on my interior space into a unfinished mess.
Yet, this is not the worst of my experience with Rob and Nelson Home Improvements.  On 10/15/12, Rob asked for another check to continue the work.  I paid him $3000 and he never showed back up again.  He did not, and has not responded to any of my phone calls.  I have also tried to contact his contact person (Kristin, listed on the Angie's ad) to no avail.  Rob and Nelson Home Improvements took my money and ran, leaving me with a complete disaster!  The work is only halfway finished, if that.

Overall it was a very good experience.  Gary met with me quickly after my call, measured the patio, took my description of what we wanted to do, and was able to put together a quote quickly.  He is somewhat aggressive on closing deals, and wanted to close the contract at our first meeting.  He was willing to negotiate on price, however, and I was comfortable with doing so, after having looked up his reviews here on Angie's List.

He stated the work would start in 10-days or so, but it took about 15-20, actually.  The work itself was fantastic.  The carpentry, painting, and roofing subs that he used were very professional, did superb work, and were very polite and considerate to my wife and young children.   I am extremely pleased with the finished product, and all our friends and neighbors have commented on the quality of the finish and construction.   The crews arrived early, stayed late, finished in a timely pattern, and did superb while being very respectful of our home and my family.  I couldn't be happier with the process.

The only half-way negative thing, which I think underlies some of the poorer ratings that Gary has had on Angie's List, is his communication skills.  He is a good salesman, wanting to close deals quickly and keep his business going.  Personally, I have no problem with that as long as the work backs up the promise, which in our case it clearly did.  He prefers to communicate with texts and emails, and is not a "hold-your-hand" type of contractor.   If I could offer him one piece of advice, it would be to improve his customer communication skills, as many people will not be able to provide an exact description of what they want up front, and of course many times jobs require alterations mid-stream due to miss-communications and misunderstandings in the initial contracting.  If he were to hone that one skill, I believe his business would explode quite quickly, as the quality of the work is simply superb.

So, overall I give him a solid A-, and would use him again for future projects.   If you are not comfortable communicating with modern technology, he isn't your guy, or if you are not able to communicate the exact project idea up front and need more guidance, again he might not be a good fit.  But the work and subs were superb, and once he hones those skills, there will be no finer contractor in the area.

    Complete Outdoor Concepts
In August of 2010, I had the pleasure of meeting Gary Gootman when he visited my home for a complimentary consultation regarding plans for my ?dream backyard?. The plan was to coordinate the construction of a new fence, Cabana,Fireplace,Landscape, grill Island, and Stamped concrete patio in conjunction with the completion of our pool. With a very small backyard, and a new pool taking up most of that space, I was considerably worried about not having room for the outdoor entertaining area my husband and I had in mind. After surveying the limited space in the backyard, and discussing the features that were important to us, Gary designed a plan that would meet our needs perfectly! Working closely with our pool builder, Gary coordinated the construction schedules between the crews, and carefully monitored the project down to the smallest detail. The end result was truly amazing? Our L-shaped bar was constructed of the same flagstone that was on the raised spa to achieve a nice balance. A professional grade stainless grill, mini refrigerator, and keg-cooler with tap were built-in to the bar, with a concealed trash receptacle for maximum use of the space. Eelectrical outlets were even built in to accommodate a blender to whip up frothy frozen beverages by the pool for those preferring that over ice-cold beer on tap! As a nice element to our outdoor entertaining area, a striking red-cedar Cabana was constructed over the space, which included an outdoor ceiling fan to keep cool, and a TV mounted in the corner for maximum visibility. To complete the project, Gary designed a board-on-board cedar fence with a unique decorative design at the top?the perfect perimeter for our truly unique backyard paradise! The decision to invest in an outdoor home improvement can be a significant one, so the end-result should be to your exact specifications. Gary was there daily to check on the job and kept us posted with either a phone call or an email everyday to let us know what the next step was going to be.It is important to select a contractor with experience, attention to detail, and a strong focus on exceeding customer expectations. Whether you are seeking the relaxing outdoor retreat of your dreams, or a vacation destination in your own backyard, I highly recommend Complete Outdoor Concepts for exceptional results!
