    I called repeatedly and she didn't return my calls.  Finally I went to the salon, I knew she was supposed to be there like on Thursdays and Fridays, and so I was like I'm just going to go there and see if she's there.  So I went in there and guess she was there but she never did explain why she didn't return my calls.  So then when I went, I was interested in doing, I've kind of been coloring my hair a certain color for a long time but I was half way thinking to let it grow out but I wasn't sure, anyway, and also I wanted it trimmed the way the other lady always did it so I explained this to the lady and I said let's go ahead and do the trim today and I want to talk about the hair coloring because I'm thinking about it, I just want to know like things, anyway she trimmed my hair but she didn't do what I asked her to do.  I mean she kind of got into it and she said well I'm just going to leave it a little longer here because you can always cut it again.  It took me back, I was kind of like well okay but when I got home I was like why didn't you do what I asked you to do?, I know my hair, you know, this is the, but she just invented some other way and then about the hair coloring, she was like kind of making it kind of like a totally different thing than she was, explaining like her way that she thought would be better than the way I had it in my head.  I've been listening to YouTube videos and analyzing it and you know think through things and I kind of let it grow on purpose to see what it was under there and everything and she was like, she wanted to go darker instead of lighter and she wanted to do the roots different which to me defeats the purpose of letting it grow out natural.  So I'm not going to go back to her because she is not doing what I ask her to do.  I just need her to do what I ask her to do.  I had the other lady for a long time, like years and she's wonderful.  She did very well but she is sick now, she has cancer.

    Aveda Institute is the equivalent of a beauty college in that the services are performed by students. The students are closely supervised by instructors and there is little danger of walking out totally unhappy. I use this company to purchase all my Aveda products which is rewarded with a frequent buyer program that includes among other things, free services. There is an occassional bad pedicure which Aveda is all too ready to remedy with another free pedicure. If you are short on time, this is not the place for you. But if you have an hour for a pedicure or an hour and 45 mintues for a haircut, you cannot beat the price or quality of service. I highly recommend this business.

    I am brand new to the area and had been well past due for a trim.  My husband, while searching for something else, came across their facility and took me to check it out for myself.  This is on a Saturday, late morning.  When I walked in, I was kind of wanting to check it out and inquire as to what services they have available.  I was also hoping someone would have an opening that day (or that walk-ins were welcome). Their lobby area is full of beautiful things, including jewelry and purses, all for sale.

    The receptionist wasn't able to give me too many direct answers in regards to pricing and I was a bit turned off by that until she explained that everyone there is a private entity and price their services in their own manner and ranges.  A person would need to be more specific in order to get prices, such as asking how much "Julie" charges to do nails?  I found this to be a turn-off.  I understand, but I tend to shy away from places where I cannot get a direct answer. I went ahead and asked if there was anyone that may have an opening to do a quick trim (as I blew my overgrown bangs out of my eyes) and if not, when was the soonest I could get in with someone ... anyone, since I didn't know "Julie" from "Jackie" .. and I asked for her recommendation on who she thought would be the best person to get set up with. Who the easiest person to schedule with on a regular basis is that would NOT want my fist born child for payment?

    It just so happened that there was a woman talking on her cell phone there in the lobby and based on her apparel, it was obvious that she worked there.  As the woman hung up her phone, the receptionist asked her, point blank, if she would be willing to stay late that day and take a 3:00 PM cut.  The woman's response was, "Geeze, nothing like putting me on the spot!"  In my mind I was thinking, "Geeze, nothing like putting ME on the spot.  This is uncomfortable."  She agreed to stay and cut my hair ... I walked out of there thinking, "OK I'll come back at three because I'm desperate, but this will probably be a one time thing." 

    Thank goodness I went back ... the appointment turned out to be the best thing that has happened to me since moving to the Dallas area four months ago!

    That "woman on the phone" aka that "women put on the spot" is Brittany and I had THE BEST TIME with her while she was doing my hair. We were talking - and we relate to a lot of similar things -  and she was cutting  - and we were laughing - and she seemed genuinely interested in learning more about me and my life.  She also shared some things about her life as well.  We were really hitting it off well.

    After a little while, she offered to blow dry it at no extra cost so she could see how I liked it - and started reaching for the dryer.  I was instantly confused.  Since I had been enjoying our chat so much I hadn't really been paying attention to what she was doing or how much she had cut.  Most times I'm monitoring things and know when we're getting close to being done.  In this situation though, I wasn't paying attention but I didn't think we were anywhere near close to being ready to blow dry.  So I'm looking at my hair in the mirror and I'm looking at the hair on the floor and I said, "Already?  I don't think you've cut enough off."  She's looking at the floor too and telling me that there really IS quite a bit down there (being the first time, how was she to know?).  I'm looking at the floor and saying, "Oh no, there should be way more."  So she went back to cutting and we went back to chatting.  When she again thought it was enough, she asked me and I confirmed.  Then she blew it dry and gave me a fabulous style with the flat iron --- one that lasted for three days!! 

    So now it's time to settle up and I add her tip to the cost of the cut (which I found to be very fair) and she ran my card.  As she's doing that I'm thinking two things ... one .. "Did I tip her enough?  I should tip her more."  and two ... "I wonder if she does brow waxing?"  So as I'm looking through my purse to see if I have any cash, I asked her if she does brows ... "YEP!"  I'm like, "Oh Yes!  I'm in heaven!"  So, I ask ... "Can I please bother you to do mine right now?"  "You bet!" she said.  She did a super job with them and did not send me on my way looking like Frankenstein! (I have sensitive skin)  This girl is fabulous!

    Time to pay up again ... she didn't want to charge me.  I insisted.  She resisted.  I told her I would need to know how much for future reference and she caved.  So I pulled out cash and gave her that much plus extra, explaining to her that I really am happy with her service, I was super happy with the fact that she stayed late, and that I also felt I didn't tip ENOUGH for the cut.  She gave in and took it.

    I now have my next appointment scheduled (I've never pre-scheduled an appointment for a haircut six weeks into the future in my life, but I was going to make sure that I was on her calendar!) and as for my future brow waxing, she gave me her cell phone number and told me I could call, text, or just stop in at any time.  Fabulous!!

    Downside ... they have a beautiful purse in the lobby that I most certainly would have purchased, except for the fact that when I looked inside, it said "Made in China".  Bummer.

    So now, as Paul Harvey would say, that, my friends, is the rest of the story (and probably more than you wanted).

    I would definitely recommend Brittany to my friends!
