  • My medical
    bill was sent to collection even though my Medicare Ins coverage was 100%.  South Texas Radiology Group filed an
    incomplete claim and a portion was denied. STRG did not submit a revised claim.
    They feel that I am responsible for the unpaid balance and sent that debt to a
    collection agency.   
      Date of
    service   3/31/15.   MRI of Cervical and Lumbar Spine Performed
    at Val Verde Regional Medical Center Del Rio Texas.  There were two MRI?s ordered by Dr Kevin
    Barton and his claims were paid. Both MRIs were read and transcribed by Dr
    David Wood. His claims were denied by Medicare. The MRIs are incomplete without
    the interpretation, so why was Dr Wood denied?
       In Sept of 2015 I got a statement from South
    Texas Radiology Group indicating an unpaid balance on the claim.  When I called, STRG insisted that I had to
    call Medicare and solve the problem. I called Medicare and then informed STRG
    that Medicare had denied this claim because they needed the National Provider Identification
    (NPI) number for Dr Wood. They agreed to make the adjustment and submit the
    claim again.  I repeated what I had been
    told, that they could call Medicare for help to re-file if there were any
    questions.  Instead they sent the same
    incomplete claim to my secondary insurer. 
    Denied again. They never did send the revised claim to Medicare.  Never contacted me again regarding the unpaid
    claim.  Feb 7, 2016 I got a letter from a
    collection agency regarding the unpaid debt. I thought that the claim had been
    re-submitted and paid in 2015.  Now, STRG
    doesn't want to talk to me because the bill has gone to collection. Medicare
    says STRG needs to fill out the paper work correctly and re-submit the claim.
    However Medicare has to grant more time through their appeal process first.
     I paid the collection agency $525.00 because
    they threatened to send letters to the credit bureaus.

       Diane told me that
    on Oct.15, 2015, the secondary insurance declined payment and the bill was sent
    to Patient Responsibility. She declined to explain what that was. She had no
    record of STRG sending me any notice except in September 2015. That was the
    same time frame as my original contact with STRG. She said she would call me
    with answers. She never did. I have not received the notes on my account
       3/16/16   Medicare has denied my request for time to
    file a revised claim.
    3/28/16   OK Now I?m getting it. By the time I heard
    there was a problem with this claim it was already too late for me to do
    anything about it. It was late September 2015 and by then STRG would have had
    to file an appeal to submit a revised claim to Medicare. Why, because they did
    not file the claim properly and the allotted time to resubmit the claim had
    expired. Even though Dr Wood is one of their own they didn?t try again. So they
    sent me a notice saying that now the bill was on me. I did not know that the
    time limit for me to submit a revised claim had passed also. When I called STRG
    in Sept of 2015 and asked them to file a proper claim, they said they would.
    But, it was already over by then and they knew it. That was the only time they
    contacted me about the bill. Every time I called in 2015 and 2016 they were aware that the
    bill was earmarked for collection.  Next
    they waited until Feb of 2016 and sent the bill to a collection agency to cut
    their losses. They had 12 months from date of service to turn the bill over or
    they couldn?t collect in full. Waiting until the end gives the collection agency
    more leverage to collect. This was their plan since Oct of 2015. Now I
    understand why all the billing clerks were reluctant to speak to me about any details.
    It was already over. I just didn?t know it. Every time they said ?we will do
    this? or ?send you that??it was all smoke.
      I would never
    have paid the collection agency if I had fully understood my situation.
      I do have a call log
    of my contacts with Medicare and STRG.
       I have
    adequate insurance coverage as required by law.  I pay premiums so I shouldn't pay for the
    services too. The law should protect me from unethical business practices. It
    is far too easy for a business to send bills to a collection agency without due
    process or oversight.

  • I wanted a skin assessment and to have Dr. Coffey evaluate a protracted eye condition exacerbated by cosmetics. She came in with her PA and asked why I was there. I told her and before going any further Dr. Coffey stood, folded her arms and asked whether I wanted a medical exam or cosmetic exam. I told her I wanted both and she went on to diagnose ocular rosacea as the culprit.
    The cosmetic skin evaluation continued with a highly critical doctor repeatedly sighing heavily as she assessed my appearance. BBL laser therapy was prescribed for the rosacea and overall skin improvement. A topical antibiotic and oral antibiotic were also prescribed for long-term ongoing rosacea control. I was also provided an informational sheet on diet and lifestyle changes to help rosacea. These changes were basically avoid heat and avoid tons of fruits and vegetables that are known vasodilators. Being an RD, I understand the importance of the high-potassium foods I was told to avoid. And what doctor essentially recommends avoiding exercise?
    Despite not following the diet and exercise recommendations, my initial results were remarkable. The BBL effectively removed dark spots and the antibiotic gel and oral antibiotic made my skin look better than ever. My eyes never felt worse. However, my ocular rosacea was never treated and became worse than ever. So I returned in August 2013 and had allergic patch testing done. Dr. Coffey was argumentative and rude. Dr. Coffey apparently forgot my history and didn't refer to my chart so I tried to remind her of some important details but she left the room in mid-sentence to never be seen again. The technician who performed the patch test was abrasive and surly while applying the patches.
    When I returned for the patch test reading, the same technician reprimanded me for having sweated on the patch. As I had previously told the doctor, indeed I was allergic to the main preservative in the topical antibiotic which was exacerbating my eye problem. So I quit using both of the antibiotics and continued the BBL therapy.
    The BBL therapy was working wonders and removing dark spots. However, the spots returned despite heavy sunscreen use. Once I started the second year of BBL therapy and since the original nurse has left Dr. Coffey's employ, BBL has not been effective. Maybe different setting are being used, but I'm not seeing any further improvement in dark spots. I will not be returning to Dr. Coffey's office for further care after this bundle of BBL treatments is completed.

  • had all kinds of detal work done, fillings, root canal, crown. Dr. Candea is profesional and in my opinion, the most competent in this area. His work is clean and of high quality. He may not be the cheapest, but his work is done right the first time.

  • She immediately identified my problem when she looked at me and I told her my symptoms. I would recommend her. She seemed knowledgeable. She was easy to talk to and she asked a lot of questions.

    Above was a verbal review given over the telephone. An updated review was competed 8/19/14 after a year of seeing Dr. Coffey for 1 year. Grade reduced to C.

  • I arrived for my appointment (which was scheduled at 0930) at 0920. I checked in, paid my deductible, and waited to be called in.

    At 10:40, I walked over to the receptionist and asked when I would be called in, she responded that I was one of the three people that would be called in next. I sat in the waiting room until10:50, I was then moved from the waiting area to the doctor/patient rooms. I sat in that room until 11:25 when I saw the doctor. My interaction with the doctor was good, he was receptive and comprehensive to my problem. I visited with the doctor for approximately 10 minutes. This was a two hour and five minute visit; ten minutes of doctor time and 115 minutes of waiting time.

  • Dr. Haverlah should have his medical license revoked. I left that appointment with a $25 copay, telling the nurses I would never ever take any medical advice that man doled out. He is condescending, demeaning, and practices the same medical knowledge he appears to have learned in 1950. He doesn't listen to a single thing about you or your medical history. The absolute worst professional I have ever met. Needed to look up the antibiotic in a pharmaceutical manual (in front of me!), and told me he was taking a wild guess (even after I told him I had a medical history of the same problem and the types of medicines that were effective). 
    I refused to take anything he prescribed me, told the nurses he should not be allowed to practice medicine, and left with nothing but a co-pay.

  • Receptionist was passive, unhelpful, and incompetent.   Another staff member was RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL, J. Galindo.
    Was given 'appointment cards' with dates and times for appointments, never received a courtesy card to confirm appointments, and when I did call to confirm, I was told there were no appointments listed for me.  This happened on two seperate occassions at this clinic.  The doctor had told me to go to the local hospital to have my mammogram and bloodwork done, when I got to the hospital on the day of the appointment, the hospital told me that I did not have an appointment, that the Cenzia Hills Clinic had never made the appointment for me.  The incompetence with this clinic is just horrible, in my opinion.
    I was overcharged for services, and later received a refund check for the entire bill that I paid.  I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General of Texas concerning the practices of this clinic.

  • It’s a small town and a small facility. The emergency room runs like an emergency room does -- you usually have to wait for hours. In the future, in case of an emergency, I have no recourse but to use them since they are the only emergency room in town.
