    Splendid Gardens
As expected, Splendid Gardens did a very professional job in preparing the walkway for the large flagstones and then in placing the flagstones in the prepared walkway. They also obtained several large boulders and placed them at predetermined locations in the front yard. As with our regular landscape maintenance, periodic power washing, gutter cleaning and the planting of flowers to add color to the yard, Splendid Gardens can be relied on the handle such projects with attention to detail and at a fair price.

They are a very high integrity provider that not only treated my home project as one of their own, they were transparent throughout the process, did very high quality work that ended up being a show piece.

Bryan beat the tar out of competing bids on the fence. The sod bid was identical. The sandbox was a unique item and not bid out. It was worth paying an extra haul charge on the sod from Arlington to Coppell in order to get the savings on the fence. Bryan also bid on a 60' feet railroad tie retaining wall and was competitive. All around, very competitive pricing.
It has been one year. The sod has survived. The sandbox has weathered well. And the powder-coated iron fence shows zero rust.
I communicated with Bryan using phone, email, and a scanned plat of my house. It is very rare to find contractors who don't insist on meeting you in person during business hours. So this was great. As I was never on site, I can't judge if he is on time. He returns phone calls and writes detailed email!
When he thought somebody else was a better choice for some other work, he said so. Job site clean afterwords.

    Platinum Fence and Patio
The worst. I've dealt with many contractors over the last year repairing/remodeling a property bought out for foreclosure. Platinum Fence and Patio and it's owner, Sean was the worst experience of all of these.
Here's a what you can expect if you hire Platinum Fence and Patio:
    1. Miscalculations in basic measurements
    2. Failure to refund amounts for materials paid for and not used
    3. Failure to complete items as planned
    4. Months and months from start to finish
    5. Having to call and direct Sean each and every step along the way about items not being completed.
    6. An increase in the bid price after contract is signed
    7. Unused and scrap materials will be left behind
    8. Poor communication
One of the number one rules when dealing with contractors is never pay in full before a job is complete. Sean is a perfect example of why this rule exists. I screwed up and had paid in full before completion. Below is more specificity as to the items described above.
    1. I hired them after receiving an "Outdoor Living Plan" which showed a patio and outdoor bar/grill area. As part of that outdoor plan I highlighted that I wanted a couple of drawers as part of the bar/grill area, drew these onto the plans, and signed a contract that had those drawers specifically listed on the contract. On the supposed day of completion I received a call from Sean telling me that the drawers he had bought would not fit, and instead of two sets of drawers he proposed a single combo, and told me I would be refunded the difference i.e. The door drawer combo would cost $450 instead of $800 for the two separate items. I agreed to this in order just to expedite the whole thing. In addition I was informed after signed the contract that in fact my patio area would be 50 square feet larger than he had measured and thus an additional $550 was asked for.
    2. The "Refund" discussed above for $350 has never been sent. I had asked about this a couple of times and assured it would be made. My most recent e-mail regarding the refund went unanswered.
    3. Even after agreeing that a combo door drawer combo could be installed, they still installed a non-combo door. When asked about this he responded that they just put that in until the combo arrived. After a month and a half I had to contact Sean once again and ask the status on installing the replacement door/drawer combo. At this time I once again asked for the refund check for the doors paid for but not installed. At this point he said sorry and that the combo drawers would be installed. Within a day or two a box was left next to the bar/grill area. This box sat opened, but uninstalled for another two weeks, until once again I had to e-mail and ask what was going on, and finally threaten legal action. This finally got the combo drawers installed. It also appears the concrete counter tops were never properly sealed.
    4. The plan evaluation was given in mid March. The contract was signed April 1st. This process was finally "completed" at the end of July.
    5. If I had not e-mailed every couple of weeks after things ground to a halt I am sure that this would still not be completed.
    6. Addressed above. Supposed miscalculation as to square footage of patio lead to demand for more money.
    7. After the patio was installed a half pallet of pavers was left on the street. A month or so later when the bar/grill was started I informed Sean that these had not been picked up. He said he noticed that and would tell them to pick it up. This never happened. I finally received a citation by the city about a month later and was forced to move the half pallet myself paver by paver into my backyard so it would not be on the street and I could avoid fines by the city. In addition they never picked up a large number of scrap lumber/ 2x6's that were left behind after the pouring of concrete for the bar/grill.
    8. Poor communication addressed above. Either work was never supervised and checked, or worse it was and incomplete work was ignored until complaints were made. Add to all of this a month delay in starting the project for a supposed "questionable" check. After paying with a check I was told that a cashier's check would be required because Sean's bank told him that they could not tell if my check was any good and that they did not tell him how long they would hold it for. I refused to pay with a cashiers check and said to start after it cleared. For some reason this took over a month from the supposed deposit date to when it cleared. For the second half I paid with a cashiers check. I'm not sure if this was some sort of plan to get full payment before completion.

    Arbors and Patios
I found out about them thru Angie's List. Got a paver stone patio in our backyard. The main reason for having paver stone patio is to avoid cracks which is common in concrete patio.
Initially he came and we decided on the patio design and started work. After a few days we found out the design/structure we decided on was not eligible under the city's rules, which was a big disappointment for me and we had to change our plan.
I thought a contractor must know what are the city construction rules. He charged us for the labor and material that was used which was his mistake to begin with. I agreed (took that loss, paid extra for things that I never got done !!!) and moved on with rest of the work because it was hard to find out another person to finish off a half done job.
Instead of ground level which was original plan, patio was about 6-8 inches above ground and had to have a concrete border, which again was not professional, so he charged extra for stone border (again something extra in my budget).
Its been hardly 2 months and I started noticing cracks, I called him. He sent his people while I was not at home and fixed that crack, which I thanked, but I really wanted to talk and preferred to be home when his people are coming.
Again, after 1 week or so in the same place, the same crack occurred and I also started noticing a few other cracks. I texted him and he said its because the soil is settling in the area!!!! No further response after that.
I paid almost $7,000.00 for this patio, which is not exact design I wanted and not even2 months and it has multiple cracks.
He sounded very good when initial consultation was done but rest of the experience and even after completion quality of his work is not good. Plus, he is not responding now or taking responsibility of what he had done.
    Very unsatisfied with his work.

The work was terrific - our backyard looks completely different now and Mike made the new design flow throughout the back yard to give it a consistent look.  We will definitely use him again for future projects.

The provider/crew is always prompt and professional and accepts feedback and works to satisfy my requests.  We have used this provider for several years now, and the crew and Ms. Hark go over and above to service my property, both in terms of landscape installation and maintenance.  I have recommended this provider to several clients who now use her services.

    H2O Sprinkler Systems
I called in somewhat of a panic in the am, due to a miscommunication with another contractor.  In short, I needed to have part of the sprinkler system rerouted away from what was going to be covered in pavers.  (Out of six calls to sprinkler repair services, they were the first one to help me).
I got lucky and they were able to squeeze me that morning.  The crew was incredibly efficient.  They were done in 2.5 hours.  Everything tested out quickly and we could move on with our patio project the next day.  We even have a new sprinkler head to water the far back corner of the garden.  Plus, they figured out how to maintain water in some tough spots, even with a new line.
Although 500 may seem high, there were two guys, plus the boss and they worked faster than any other irrigation crew I have seen.  Even better, I won't have a leak under my new patio.  Well done guys!

    Chibli Stone Works
The overall experience went well except when his workers inadvertently moved a column 5 feet to one side without checking.  This threw off the visuals of the fence significantly from our patio and had to be fixed.  Eduardo really surprised me when he asked me to pay for this mistake.  This is why I give him such a low grade for professionalism.  I was very clear about where the columns were to be placed and he admitted that it was his crews error and still he asked me to pay for the error.  This is not good customer service and I refused. Our working relationship was  never quite the same and I am quite sure had he been dealing with my husband he would never have had the nerve to do that.  However, at the end of the day the end product was good.  Eduardo's crews work very hard and produce quality work.

    Austin Gardens Landscape
We initially bought the Big Deal ($129, 4 man-hours) and I believe the company did have trouble keeping up with all the Big Deal purchasers. We eventually did have 2 guys + owner show up (he called the evening before) and they worked hard for 2 hours and did a lot of general yard cleanup - mow/leaves/trim shrubs. They basically did whatever they could manage in 2 hours so it was not a "choose what you want to have done" type of deal. I think if they do another Big Deal it needs to be clearly stated that this is general yard clean-up and that special requests (like trimming a particular tree or whatever) will be honored when possible just to set expectations - I see in other reviews that some folks were disappointed about not having a particular area addressed. I did get to speak with Jay while he was here for the Big Deal work to discuss other landscape improvements we wanted to make and based on how knowledgeable he was, decided to hire him again for some additional landscape work.
Jay and a crew of 2 guys spent a good part of 2 days here for the remaining landscape work. Jay was present for most of the time in order to oversee his crew and answer questions, and at one point even took me to the nursery to look at tree choices. He is very knowledgeable without being pushy, very keen to be sure we were happy with the work. We had one little miscommunication about a tree choice but worked it out. I work from home so I did some peeking as the guys worked and was pleased to see how carefully they did everything. They measured carefully for the trees, were careful as they dug in order to not damage existing pipes/sprinklers, and I observed them spend a good amount of time with a leveler to be sure the retaining wall was, in fact, exactly level. The retaining wall looks great, and we are happy to finally have some good quality trees planted on our property. The two guys who worked for Jay were great - very courteous and hard-working, very sweet to our very nervous dog, and it was pleasant to have them on our property. I would love to have them back if we need more work done.
I think the price was fair given the amount of time Jay spent in speaking with us about our choices and being sure that what we picked would work well for our location - soil type, etc. He clearly knows his stuff. The work took a while to schedule due to the weather and their workload but we were flexible and not in a hurry.
We would definitely use Jay and his crew again for future landscape needs.
