    The installation went without incident.  It took a little more than an hour to install and check out the system.  I had requested that the system not be activated for one week to allow me to become familiar with using the alarm and settings.  That one week test period ended today.  My only concern now  is the fact that due to high frequency hearing loss I am unable to hear the  high pitched alarm from all areas in the house.  In the next few days I plan to contact Front Point to see if they can provide a different sounding alarm for me.  If you are interested, I will provide an update after I contact Front Point system and see what they can for me.....WDM

    Vivint Inc
    The system was installed in July 2010 with monthly monitoring fees paid through EFT from her bank account..  In August 2011 my mother had a stroke and in February 2012 I took an early retirement and moved in with her to provide care 24/7.  She gave me medical and financial power of attorney at that time. I bought her house and contacted Vivint to cancel the alarm service.  I was advised that the service was not tied to the house but to my mother personally and it could not be cancelled at that time.
    Per the terms of the contract I cancelled the service.  Notice was given by fax and registered mail.  The month after the contract was to end the monitoring fee was again deducted from my mother's bank account.  I called Vivint's billing department and was told the contract cancellation was marked as pending because I had not talked to their "customer loyalty" department who must approve the cancellation.  The contract specifies simply that a 30 day written notice be given to cancel.  I received no notice from Vivint that they were not cancelling the contract and would continue to collect the monitoring fees.
    Now I must follow up with them to secure the cancellation and get a refund for the unauthorized EFT. 

    I was finally able to get the contract cancelled and the charges removed.  The ONLY way they will cancel is by forcing you to talk to their "Retention" department where they agressively pitch you to continue the agreement. Their customer service can't (or won't) respond to a cancellation request.  Do not believe their response that calling their customer group will help.  One of the most dishonest and frustrating companies I have ever dealt with.

    Republic Alarm
    We contacted four home security companies for quotes for full indoor security on our new home.  Three were top-rated "national" companies and Republic Alarm, whom was referred by a friend.  Republic has everything the national companies have, but with personal service.  You don't talk to a salesman on a toll-free number to design your package.  A company representative comes to your home and works with you to design the system that fits your needs.  In addition, our up-front cost was considerably less than the national companies.  We chose two additional components for installation that were about $100 each.

    The installation tech was professional and very respectful of our home and space.  He got all the new components installed much quicker than we expected and left not a trace behind.  
    Republic uses top brand components and installs anything from a basic system to full home automation.  We chose a couple of automation components and are very pleased with our system.  We can view our system status on our cell phones at any time and activate or deactivate from our cell phones.
    When we have had questions, we can reach a company rep quickly by phone, text or email and if they are not immediately available, have always responded within 10 minutes to answer any questions.  So, Republic can do anything the big guys do and they do it even better.

    I got concerned about the cost of our alarm system/monitoring service creeping up in the 4 years since we moved in. If I remember correctly, maybe 50%. Decided to investigate other systems thru Angie's List and found good reports on Smith Thompson as a local provider. Called them and was amazed at the reduction in cost for their service--I was paying quarterly about what their yearly charge would be. Arranged for the changeout and they came out at the set time and were done with the changeout in about 2 hours. I also had a 3rd keypad added in our bedroom, which was done easily, and we got wireless notification with the install in case the phone lines were cut. At this point, completely satisfied with the change to Smith Thompson. When I called ADT to cancel, they immediately offered a reduction in cost, but would still have been 37% higher than Smith Thompson. Told the agent the time to try to keep me as a customer was long past--if they had offered the reduction before I looked around I probably would never have started the search. About a month later, a local ADT agent called to see if anything could be done to regain my account--told him same deal---too little, too late.
    I recommend Smith Thompson to anyone looking for an alternative to large security alarm companies--they seem to understand the service vs value aspect that I appreciate.

    I haven't had any issues with Hawk Security and they are fine. They were clean and neat. They got it done at a cost that worked with my budget. I was very unhappy with the current one I had so it worked out well. I could get stuff cheaper but I like their effort. I haven't had any issues with their quality. I can't even talk about their responsiveness because I haven't had to contact them; actually, they contacted me.

    We have use Universal for about 8 years.  They wired the alarms for a 1960's era home. We had used them before, and were extremely pleased, so we wanted to continue with them.  They are professional, and the services they provide are top notch.  We would definitely use them again in another home.

    Jason Turner Handy Man
    Jason Turner is in  truest sense a handyman.    Because he was so reasonable in his services I was able to complete so much more than I had intended.     Initially I hired him to fix a toilet then I saw how meticulous he was in making sure it worked perfectly.  If I had contacted a plumbing company they would have charged me $150.00- $250.00 not the $34.00 I spent with Mr. Turner.   Then I asked him to replace bathroom faucets, then replace electrical lighting.  So one thing lead to another and now  I have nearly a new home.  Spectacular.   I get so many compliments on how the house looks because of all the change outs.  Again I could not have afforded this if it had not been for a very reasonable hourly rate.  I paid Mr. Turner $17.00 per hr. but he is very fast.   The most expensive undertaking was staining of the concrete floor, it took awhile longer  that's because one of the rooms needed so much concrete repair.     But I couldn't be happier and the compliments just keep on coming.  One of my favorite things is that he built me a concrete step into the sunken living room.   It completed the appearance and with all the new tiling it is beautiful.

    Another thing I liked about Mr. Turner is his honesty.   He never overcharged me.   He charged me for only the hours he worked and not a penny more.  In other words if we would discuss what needed to be done he did not charge me.   He did not charge me for picking up supplies on his way into the job..  However I felt it only fair to pay him when he would have to leave the job site to pick up supplies that were needed.  As far as I was concerned  he was still on the clock.   What a terrific experience.   For any woman out there whose hubby is not so handy call the true handy man and get those annoying repairs out of the way once and for all you won't regret it.
