  • He changed the screws on the hinges on the door jam to longer ones and moved the strike. This made the door worse. He told us that we needed to buy new hardware, a new 8 foot door and a door frame since they were warped. We couldn't lock the dead bolt a few days after his "fix". We undid all he had done and installed new hardware. The door works perfect now.

  • Estimate for the work was provided upfront. Amount charged for the job was the same as the estimate. All appts were kept, workers arrived on schedule, and work was completed when they said it would be. We were very pleased with the work and plan to use their services again. The deck railing looks very good and makes a nice addition to the house.

  • This is my second time using Jim the Happy Handyman.  His hourly rate might seem a tad high but take my word for it, he is so fast and efficient that you get a good bang for your buck.
    I bought a new dishwasher that the delivery guys couldn't install because, as it turned out, my hot water valve was not the correct one for both sink hot water and the dishwasher. I called my plumber to see how much he would charge to get the valve replaced and the dishwasher installed. He gave me an estimate of $130. Knowing I had a few other things around the house that needed to be done, I decided to buy three hours of Jim's services instead. So for not much more than the plumber's estimate, I got a bunch of  things taken care of, in addition to the installation of my dishwasher. Yeah Jim!
    He is incredibly fast and very professional. Only downside is that he is so popular (because he's GOOD!), you have to wait until he has an opening .... his schedule usually doesn't have openings until a month out or so out.
    He carries what seems like an entire hardware store in his truck/trailer and any part you don't have, he probably does.  He had to pull a few items out for my job and he didn't gauge me on those parts.

  • I called to schedule an appointment but received their answering machine. I left an message and Beau called me back within 2 hours. Very courteous and responsive. We scheduled a time for his technician, Rick, to come and work on my doors. The day of the appointment, Rick called me and said he was on his way and would be there shortly. He arrived on time and did an excellent job of fixing my doors. He even explained what he was doing and told me what I could do to avoid the problem in the future. He was very courteous and efficient. He finsished within the specified time and then cleaned up afterwards. I will definitely use OnCall Home Services again if the need arises.

  • I'm not real pleased with them. I kind of given up on them. It has been an ongoing problem for a long time and it's been difficult aligning a time for them to come and visit. The last time I finally got something lined up I had to cancel. I gave up them. I am just going to have to live with the doors that they gave me.
    I know that the new doors are more secure than the ones I had before and security was an issue for me. The doors don't really work right. You have to pull pretty hard to get it to open. You should just turn the knob and have it swing open but you don't, you have to give it a jerk to get it off of that sweep, or at least where the sweep is contacting the threshold of the door.
    I was trying to buy really good door. I bought a storm door for the front and these French doors for the back. The storm door for the front didn't really sit right. It had a 4 inch gap between it and the threshold and he had to go and find something to fill it but it doesn't seal in anyway at the bottom so it isn't much of a storm door. It has a special glass in it that is very hard to break and it has keys to it but I don't have the keys to it and I don't know how to go about getting keys for it. I have been able to use it for security. Right now it is more of a nusence because when you go in and out, it springs closed faster than you want it to and it ends up hitting your ankles. They either installed a poor process for a lot of money or charged me too much to install.
    The owner is a really nice guy. He comes across town and through traffic. He tried to be very helpful. The guy that works for him installing which seemed to be a really thorough type. I got to the point that they had come out so many times for so many different things. I would call and leave messages and they wouldn't get back to me promptly. I really complained to me and told them that I was tired of waiting on them and they started paying more attention to me like they were really going to make things right. It has just been complicated and I don't want to take time off of work to do something like that.

    Ray, the owner, came out and made everything right. The product he sells does not have very good service, but Ray stayed on yhem and finally got the replacement parts that made everything work.

  • He was very courteous and prompt. He handled himself in a very professional manner. His team, too, was very courteous. His carpentry skills are excellent in some very basic ways. He made me a beautiful bookcase at the end of my peninsula. I could not be more pleased. However, he was not able to perform all the he said he could. In my estimate he was to build a pull out shelf to hold my cookie sheets and other larger bakery pans. he could not build it. Also, in the estimate he was to remove my wall oven, build shelves in the opening and build doors to cover the opening. After he removed the oven he did tried to talked me out of the shelves - which honestly the storage from these shelves were key in the entire remodel. He did however, complete them. Shelves are nice, but when he finished the doors had a gap. In the estimate he was to use decorative glass, he however, used plan, very thin glass. I immediately re-positioned the hinges to eliminate the gap and replaced the glass with the glass he could not find.

  • Al arrived on campus, met with my housedad to discuss the sliding glass door issue, examined the door and discovered he was able to make the repair.  He called me to request approval to complete the repair by stating the options, cost and time needed to complete his service for us.  I approved and he was finished within thirty minutes.

  • These projects have been sitting around for years.  While talking to a friend, i mentioned I needed this done by a craftsman who appreciated old wood and the friend gave me Mike's name.  
    Mike came when he said he would and left the work area spotless, complete with picking up every little piece of wood.  He's a true craftsman, matching grain, fitting corners, etc.  He charges by the hour and I got my money's worth; he never sat down unless he was showing me an idea or problem.  I am thrilled with the results and wish I had found him years ago.  
    As soon as I get more money, I'll be calling him; I have dozens of projects that require his talents.
