Fred evaluated a Whirlpool Duet washer that was giving an error code that indicated a bad filter. He determined that the filter wasn't clogged and advised that if the code kept showing up, it was likely going to be the inverter (or impeller) and fixing that would be probably more expensive than the amount of money worth investing in a 10-year-old machine. We ended up replacing the washer and are very happy we did.

Just fine. We've used Fred for many repairs over the years, and we trust him.

I called to get help with appliance that were working but not working well. Specifically a dryer that was taking too long to dry the clothes. Fred called me immediately and we talked. He did not work in the Georgetown area but he offered suggestions for free.

Fred asked specific questions. He said that often when one has a problem of this sort, the vent in the back is clogged. Sure enough, we pulled out the dryer and there was a bird building a nest. Pulled out all the stuff and dryer works fine. One free two-minute call and problem solved for free. I can tell Fred is a decent man. He didn't have to take time to help me and he did. Thank you Fred.

Diagnosed an inoperative refrigerator/freezer then repaired it on the spot.

I called Fred's Appliance Repair and requested a service call to fix our Kenmore refrigerator/freezer. Fred himself answered the phone and asked some basic questions and offered some possible solutions (he does not work on Korean/Japanese appliances). I had tried all the obvious solutions so he adjusted his appointment schedule to come to our house right away. He said he gave priority to refrigerators etc because of the expense of loosing valuable food due to spoilage. We appreciated that kind of service. He arrived promptly and quickly determined that the fuse on the circuitboard blew out. Of course, it was of the type that was permanently installed. Despite that he cut it out and soldered a new fuse in its place. I suspect that there might be companies out there that would have wanted to replace the whole circuit board instead. He still does some things and quot;the old fashioned wayand quot;. Fred warned that that a siimple fuse replacement might not be the problem so he said to wait a few days and he would be glad to return to dig deeper into the problem. The appliance has worked fine for over a month now. We will hire Fred again if other appliances need repair in the future.

To fix a oven problem

I chose Fred based on good rating at Angies List to fix an oven problem reported by the tenant for one of my rental properties. He visited the house and told me that there is nothing wrong and charged me $50. A few weeks later, the oven problem show up again. And this time, he told me that it will cost me $130 for replacing the oven igniter. I am not sure whether he found the real problem or not and I am very disappointed about his lousy service. When I asked what warranty he will give, he said he only give the warranty to the parts he replaced, in other words: the oven ignitor ! BTW, so far, I still do not get the receipt for the $50 I paid, I need it for the tax report.

On April 29 I went to repair the oven on a rented property owned by [member name removed]. I found nothing wrong. it came on..so I charge hin the service fee i.e. $50 which was send to me by mail. [member name removed] was not present in any of the visits. He requested the receipt , I called twice and left the message to call me back so I can address, but he thought that I am calling to charge another service fee because I went twice, so never returned my calls..thats why I couldn’t mail the receipt. Now the over…After almost 2 weeks [member name removed] called me that it is not working again…his tenant told me that he has used it several times after I left. I am a honest person If I do not see anything wrong I tell the customer that I do not see anything wrong. Since it is working now there no way to tell that why it was not working before. This time I found the bad ignitor I told him it will cost him $130 parts and labor. He said its too much he will another stove. He wanted me to give him warranty on the whole stove that is if any thing goes bad I should be responsible, I told him I will give him warranty only on part I will replace and the labor. To find out that I found the real or not was to get it repaired and then he would have found out, Because you only pay if the problem is solved and it works.

Came to repair dryer

I called for an appointment and he said he would be able to come that day. He arrived about an hour and a half later. He wasted no time thoroughly checking all parts of the system and diagnosing the problem as the motor. He gave me an estimate to repair, which was quite reasonable. However, I decided not to repair because I have another newer dryer in storage that I will place in service and will get rid of the broken one. Fred was very professional. He explained things clearly. I have used his services before and will continue to call on him when my appliances break down.

I used them to repair a pump for a dishwasher.

They were very good. They seemed very honest, professional and reasonable. They fixed it and it works fine. They took a little time to order the part, and I had to call them to follow up on it.
