    Arlington School Of Self Defense
The studio is a bit worn but the owners are always there and personally involved in the school. The offered a couple of free lessons and gave my daughter a real work out. She loved every minute of it. She has been going for a month now and I'm shocked at how fast she is learning. Best of all she is getting fitter and we have had no write ups from her school. The Stallards and their instructors do great work with kids. Judging by the teachers their adult program produces it must be very good also. I highly recommend Arlington School of Self Defense.

It is okay, it is nothing I would rave about. I have been going for a couple of years, but it just has great kids programs, like swimming and soccer. It has nice rates, and it is affordable. My kids go swimming there.

    Life Time Fitness
It is a good facility but a little expensive. I pay a little bit more than $100 a month and everything there is good. They offer a lot of classes and at times good for working people. The staff and equipment is great and I do not think I would have to wait for equipment even during peak hours. They have an indoor swimming pool, a sauna, a basketball court and an outdoor pool with a play area. They also have childcare facility at no extra charge because it is included in the membership. They offer a lot of things for the membership facility.

Received a promotional offer which no other fitness club in my area could come close. I would like to see a couple more pieces of equipment, however, for the most part LA fitness offers meets all my fitness needs. Some members could be more courteous by
removing weights from equipment they used and placing it back where it belongs. For a time it seemed a few members seemed to think everyone liked looking at their underwear by pulling down their work out shorts to a point it exposed their underwear ( you know what I mean - sagging) this problem seems to have been resolved . Cub is kept clean and staff is friendly. Don't leave your valuables exposed in your vehicle there is a intermittent problem with vehicle break-ins which is not unusual for many health clubs.

I purchased a two year membership to 24 hour fitness from Costco, which makes the monthly cost affordable. I also pay $19.99/month to use their kids' club. I haven't taken their classes but I have mostly enjoyed their kids club. A few of the club workers are better than others. One in particular even remembers my son's name when we come. It took my son a while to warm up to the club. At first they call you if they cry for 15 minutes. After several weeks of ending my workout early, he can now last my entire workout.
The facilities are nice and generally well maintained. One of my favorite features of this location is the TRX suspension trainer. It uses your body as resistance and I use it most times I go. They have a good range of machines.

Kurt is great. He worked with my physical therapist to come up with a plan, and he's very careful to avoid anything that aggravates my bad back, shoulder, and hip. I have friends who work out with some of the other trainers there, and they all recommend the place.

    Heart at Work Fitness
We've know Fred, since 2009 when we met him at Arlington Memorial Cardiac rehab, after my husband John's heart stent surgery. We have been using the hospital gym however it is not close to home.We heard through the grapevine that Fred had opened the Heart at work fitness center. We stopped by and were so impressed with the set up he has that we are now new members there since 12/6/12. Everything is new, center is clean and neat, including the rest rooms. He has a wide variety of equipment. You feel comfortable the minute you go into the door ,there is a coffee corner with tables to visit with new Friends. My husband and I are both 70 so the closeness, Fred's professionalism, knowledge and friendliness make you want to come back and stick with the program so to speak.

    Life Time Fitness
Overall it went well. We were able to tour the facility and sign up for a membership without any of the sign up or enrollment fees. This facility actually has much more to offer than the one in IN did, so we were very excited about the additional amenities. We also have a baby now, so we were really impressed that with our memberships the child care center would only cost us $8 per month. The only problems that I have encountered since joining is that the infant hours in the child care center have changed, so I now have limited times I can utilize the gym and all it has to offer. Trying to plan what amenities I can use based on different hours is quite difficult, since other amenities (like the rock wall for example) have specific hours they are open as well. Everyone on staff I have encountered has been friendly and professional.

*6/10/13 Update: The child care center has updated their hours. They now will make reservations for infants anytime after 9AM up until 8PM during normal hours. This is so nice because now I can participate in more classes the gym has to offer. I demoted the communication from a B to a C because none of the workers told me about this change. I had to ask about the changes when I saw a mother dropping her infant off 'after infant hours' one day and that is how I was updated on this change. Awesome change, the gym just needs to communicate better!

*11/18/2013 Update: I have changed the overall rating as well as the communication and customer service grades. We had cancelled our membership months ago due to moving out of the area. My husband sent in a letter by certified mail as requested from the facility, however, they claim to have not received the letter until recently. They have been charging my credit card every single month even though we cancelled. They have also been contacting my husband every day for about a month now stating that we owe them at least one more payment, which obviously isn't true since they've been charging my card. My husband informed me he went ahead and paid them just to get them to stop calling him. At this point I have had to file a dispute with my credit card company. I no longer have happy, bubbly feelings for this gym.

    Frenzel, Dr. Clayton A.
The procedure went well. I was awake for the whole thing and
was quite pleasantly surprised that he and his staff were
lighthearted and talkative during the procedure. This is important to me because
the process is not horribly painful, but it is uncomfortable and the
more that the nurses talk to the patient, I think the easier it is to
keep the mind off of the discomfort.
    I haven't had my final
follow-up visit yet, but it's been over two months since my procedure
and the results have been wonderful. I would do it again and would
definitely recommend his office and the procedure to others looking for
    similar results.

LA Fitness has a large selection of cardio machines, weight machines, free weights, cycle classes, aerobic classes, racquetball, a basketball gym, a lap pool with 3-4 lanes, a hot tub, dry sauna, and full showering/changing facilities. The basketball gym is sufficient for pick-up games or just shooting which is often what my son likes to do when he visits with me. I really like the elliptical machines although they are supposed to track my heart rate yet that functionality rarely seems to work. I have a bum knee, so I generally avoid the treadmills, and I find the stationary bicycles and the stairmasters to be boring.
I bring my own music player and headphones. The music playing in the gym is just standard radio fare. There are several televisions in front of the cardio machines for visitors to view while exercising. Apparently they have a limited number of channels or satellites because 1/3 of the TV's are usually on a children's channel. My guess is that the nursery has a TV which plays cartoons and uses the same signal as the exercise TV's. This effectively reduces the available shows to watch by 1/3. The TV's require the use of an FM receiver, so most people probably don't listen to the TV's anyway. I don't.
The machines are maintained well although I have reported several of the elliptical machines having problems, and I've never seen anyone writing it down. I'm not sure if they have really good memories, or if they just ignore me and do their own equipment checks.
The pricing structure needs to be changed. I have a son that likes to go with me but that is often once a week or less. I have a daughter who would like to work out during the summer but no other time. I travel a lot and am only able to use the facility every other week although I visit it almost every day when in town. The standard $30/month for anybody and everybody just doesn't make sense. For those people that only go once a week and might miss a few weeks now and then, I think a Per Visit price would make sense.
For that price, I'd really like to see towels provided. That's probably the most common thing forgotten by me and others I've spoken with, and it's one of the things that I've enjoyed at other gyms in the past.
LA Fitness also used to have a machine that you could place your swimsuit in, and it would remove all the water. This was wonderful for those of us on our way to work who don't want a soaking wet swimsuit sitting in our bag or our car all day long. Unfortunately they discontinued those machines. I was told by the manager that it broke too often and was too costly.
Overall, it's one of the best gyms around my area and I enjoy using it. I must admit, however, that if I had a LifeTime Fitness nearby, I'd switch without hesitation.
