  • After we purchased a 10-year old residential estate on 3.3 acres, Stenson Landscaping was hired in January 2016 to solve the sever drainage issues, upgrade/repair the irrigation system and renovate almost the entire landscape. After considering incomplete advice and proposals from a professional civil engineer and several landscapers who claimed to be drainage experts, James Doyle, co-partner of Stenson Landscaping, was hired to design and install a drainage system to eliminate standing water around the residence. The effective drainage system encompasses a network of approximately 750 linear feet of French drains emptying into two high-performance sump pumps. Afterwards, standing water from rain and irrigation runoff, which was killing plants and trees, was totally eliminated. The residential irrigation controller was replaced by a smart commercial controller with a flow meter to control 26 zones. James, an expert in commercial irrigation solutions, supervised his crew in repairing zone valves and heads. In addition, he prepared a zone chart and zone map of the system. When sensing low-flow alarms caused by blockages and high-flow alarms caused by broken heads, the smart controller dispatches alarms via email to both the property owner and James. The controller can be controlled locally or remotely from a smart phone or computer. Accessible historical data is also continuously recorded. Existing and new beds were essentially planted with new perennials and evergreen plants. Approximately 50 red cedar trees were planted around the perimeter of the property for a screen. Other trees and large shrubs planted were live oak, redbud, crepe myrtle, Japanese maple and holly. Furthermore, Stenson Landscaping install a beautiful stone paving walk and garden patio, driveway stone borders and plant bed stone borders. In addition, they installed bases for statuary and installed plants and drip systems into pottery. After more than one year, James has proactively replaced dead plants and trees without hesitation under warranty. In addition, Stenson Landscaping professionally maintains the entire property under an annual contract to mow, trim, fertilize, weed and insect spraying, etc.

  • I called Andy's sprinkler on a Friday and they were able to get me in quick on a Monday. When scheduling told them 2 sprinkler zones weren't working. Spencer came out was a nice guy, but lets me know that in addition to the $95 charge there is a charge of  $75 per 30 mins to locate the zone issues ( inclusive of the first hour they changed me $95). I had explicitly called them to fix 2 zones that weren't working, I told him which zones were not working  so I should have been told that there was a $95 diagnosis charge +  $75 per 30 mins it took that is like double taxation. Visually I was able to locate the valves for the first zone, so that was fixed in the first 30 mins. The next zone issue couldn't be located , spencer worked hard to try to locate it and I get that. At the end he told me that he would follow up with a quote, and would be better to run a new valve than keep searching for the break. I never heard from him for 3 days, I called the office, to remind them he was supposed to send me a quote, I am here 12 days later still without a quote. Very poor follow up given they started a job and never finished it.

    They did replace one sprinkler head for that amount as well. I have an issue with the fact that if I am calling for something specific , if there are additional fees from a diagnosis perspective they should be mentioned upfront by scheduling team rathe, my bigger issue is there was no follow up whatsoever, in spite of me calling back and asking for the quote - they left the job unfinished and I have to get someone else to finish it up. Also when they left, controller was left with the sprinklers off which I discovered couple days later.

    To be fair I had very good service when I used Andy's  the last 2 times I used them and that is why I called them out this time without hesitating. I am not doubting that Spencer worked hard and finding the issue. It is the lack of follow up that was very disappointing both from the office perspective given I called them to give them a second chance.

    Update:  The Manager did follow up and didn't try to make excuses and was apologetic, going forward communications were what I expected from them in the first place. I did give them the benefit of the doubt, got work done from them and they did it well.

  • Jerry was a very attentive listener when we first came out to understand my need and quote a price for me. What I liked about him is that he made some suggestions to reduce my cost. His suggestions were all about smarter alternatives - things that make more sense. We walked the property twice to make sure that he got the requirements right. His quote seemed reasonable to me. During the execution, he got his team and requested for some cold water or Gatorade as it was more than 100 degrees outside. He did an excellent job. I added small things to the scope of work (like pulling out dead plants from tubs and an additional flower bed we missed the first day) but he did not change his price.
    After the job, we walked the property again and I pointed out small things that can be improved and he had them taken care of straight away.
    I will hire him again for my lighting project!

  • Aeration was not performed after a month. Placed 4 calls to branch office and also routed to call centers.  Wanted to get a credit for the  service paid for  but not received.  Got a good bit of run around, no supervisors available to process credit, no managers available to speak to me etc.  After the 4th call, I asked to have the entire account, both the aeration service and yearly lawn fertilization treatments cancelled.  Finally, a manager called back and apologized.   Too little to late as far a customer service was concerned.  I cancelled my account and services.  I received my credit and will find another company in the Argyle/Denton area to do business with.  Very disappointed in service and lack of concern for business but such a large company.

  • We spoke right away about this deal.  I initially asked if he could come out in May.  He said that he did these deals to keep his people busy in the winter.  We scheduled this for the 19th.  He waited until day before work was scheduled and called me to tell me I was outside his area and requested an additional $350 to come out here.

  • Great! Jerry Olivares arrived on time and did the work for the agreed price. Flower beds look great and everything was cleaned up throughly. I have already got an estimate for Jerry to come back and trim my trees

  • We had called to inquire about having our lawn fertilized as we have a serious weed problem.  We had previously called other campanies, but they all required a contract which was not something we were interested in committing to.  Top to bottom had reasonable prices and didn't require a commitment so we scheduled them to come out and treat our lawn in the beginning of April.  After the first treatment the lawn appeared to be a little better so we had them come out a second time.  It took several phone calls to finally reach somebody to schedule the second treatment.  When they did finally come out they came on a day that it was suppose to rain.  That night it down poured all night and I feel like the fertalizer was washed away because I did not see any results from the treatment.  I know that they cannot control the weather, but I was shocked that they would fertilize on such a day when the forecast was predicted to be so bad.

  • 3 mem arrived and promptly went to work raking leaves, cleaning out along the fence and in flower beds and trimming in areas we requested.  They also helped dig up and transplant several bushes as directed. They worked consistently and continually the whole time they were here.  We were very pleased.

  • This was Pedro's 3rd time. The first (see my initial review) was a massive clean up after my yard tractor went into the shop. He was here when he said he would be, brought plenty of manpower, got done fast, the job was great and the price was better. I have a LARGE property for yard care - about 3 acres sprinkled with trees everywhere and flower is not easy to mow. I had him back out about a month ago and have now put him on a regular schedule. You can't beat the service or the value. Use will not be disappointed.

  • They do a decent job and they seem to be honest people however they may have slight problem with organization. I have to email and remind them of the things they should do, or need to be addressed. Mostly for items they failed to complete or if a plant dies they will replace it but I have to hound them to do it. To be honest, if I could just get a landscaper who offers full service, does a good job and takes pride in the work I would probably pay more but as one of the owners said to me and quot;this is a business of volumeand quot; and the and quot;workersand quot; get paid to do the repetitive things like mow, trim, edge and weed. They really don't get paid to care about if they get a bunch of grass clippings in the pool, or if the plants that they planted are dead a few weeks later or if they fail to ensure the gate is latched when they leave.

    Bottom line, the are very similar to every other landscaper I have ever used they mow, weed, trim, and edge and they do those things as good as every other volume landscaper business I have used. But I am going to stay with them until I can find someone who can convince me they can and will do a better job.
