  • We live close to Gembler Automotive and have been using them for all of our automotive needs for about 10 years since we became frustrated with big-name dealers for repair work. Just today Cliff, owner of the shop, rescued me just one mile from home after I broke down. I was so relieved when I saw Gembler come to my aid on highway 87 after my alternator went bad while my husband was out of town. I thank Cliff and James for coming to my rescue when I felt so vulnerable. I will never be able to thank them enough for making me feel safe. This is the BEST place!

  • I don't think I would tell people to go there because it is expensive, and dealerships usually are. Unless you find someone who is I guess worthy enough with your new vehicle then if it's someone cheaper, go but it should be someone who would do a good job, not just to save money.

  • Their service is very good, they are very customer oriented, but they are also a little pushy about selling other products which kind of turns me off because I go there to get my tires rotated or balanced, and then they try to sell me other stuff. As far as the service itself is concerned, it's very good. I paid it and I show them proof that I have the service. They don't argue or anything else, but they go ahead and do it. They just try to sell me other products. When I'm there, I just tell them that I'm just there to get my tires rotated and balanced, and that's all I want. I don't need any other service. The price is very good. We have it usually done once a quarter so normally they would charge us anywhere from $30-50 to do it if I have a one-time deal so $60 is a good deal, that's why I would keep going back. They are very efficient and very punctual. They are professional.

  • It went great they got my truck back to me before the 4th of July holiday, which was a short week work for them. I would have given them an A for price, but $190.00 seemed high for a starter, it only cost $50.00 to install it. The price might reflect the fact that my truck is 21 yrs. old .I'm planning on taking my 2008 Elantra in  to have brake work done, I'll write a review after I get that done.

  • He said initial problem was leak in hose and some cable wire, then he calls next day and said it was evaporator core.
The bill was over 300, so what do I do, pay 350 for nothing or go the 900 price. Then don't hear from him for couple of days
So I call several times. He has more bad news. I get irritated by now and ask why not an accurate initial diagnosis, thought this place had some machine that figures out problem. He informs me he needs doors in evaporator so has to order new evaporator unit from ford at the price of 600 bucks. I am fit to be tied, but am determined to get a/c fixed and not through away 900 bucks. I pay 1500 and pick it up.it is working so far but this guy has the nerve to say how long compressor will last. This was a bad dream!!!

  • It went great they called Ford dealership and found out they wanted over $200 for hose, so they found another supplier that had it for under 1/2 that price. It took them a little longer to complete repair because of having to have part shipped in.

  • I was referred to Gembler Automotive by my regular mechanic for an alignment because my 9-year old SUV tended to sway as I drove down the road and the steering was unstable. I actually had to hold the steering wheel with two hands, firmly gripped when I drove over sways and bumps in the road so as to not wander into oncoming traffic, which was pretty scary especially with three kids in the vehicle.
So, I came in on a Friday because I had to make an out-of-town trip with my kids the next week and wanted to get an alignment. The owner spoke with me and told me he was booked that day, but offered to test-drive my vehicle and put it up on a lift to make sure it was safe to continue to drive. He did this at no charge and scheduled me to return the next week. I brought my vehicle in and was asked to fill out a paper indicating the problems I was experiencing with the vehicle. I was impressed by this, because over the years, I've brought my vehicle in for work at other places and when I went to retrieve my vehicle, some of my concerns were never addressed.
I was going to leave my vehicle there for two weeks, but ended up needing it back a week early. I called on a Friday at 10am and informed them of my situation. They had my vehicle ready by 3pm. The owner's daughter (the office manager) was very thorough through the entire process by calling me to let me know when they could have my SUV ready and the cost. Then she called back to let me know it was ready earlier than expected. The owner, Cliff, was also thorough through the entire process.
From the moment we met, he was very kind and professional, even though I could tell he was super busy. He stopped working on a vehicle to come in and talk to me about my vehicle. He told me that he will only fix or replace the items that really need it. He listened to my concerns about how my vehicle handled and asked questions, too. He indicated to me that my vehicle appears to have been wrecked at some point because the torsion bars were bent. That was something that never showed up on CarFax nor did any of my former mechanics notice. He also indicated that the wide tires on my vehicle were notorious for causing problems with steering and alignment. Cliff told me to let him know if I have any more problems with my vehicle. I was expecting to walk out of there with a huge bill, but to my surprise, it was only $117. I am very pleased with the work. My SUV drives a lot better now.
Overall, the atmosphere of the business seems to be friendly, courteous, and professional. While I only saw three people working there (the owner as the mechanic, the owner's daughter as the office manager, and a young man as another mechanic), they run the place like 20 people work there. The waiting room and shop are clean and the parking lot is full! There are lots of vehicles there every time I drive by, so to me that is a good indicator that this is a great automotive shop. Cliff and his daughter are very friendly, welcoming people. They are detailed and don't make you feel like a number, but more like a friend. Their work is quality and that's something that will make me a repeat customer.
    Great job, Gembler Automotive!

  • I had bought a used Ford F-150 from a reputable local dealer, but within two months it started running really badly. It kept going into an overhating scenario and "limp" mode and spewing coolant out of the coolant tank. Limped to a nearby Ford dealer who installed a new thermostat. Drove off and immediately went into limp mode again. Dealer then installed several new ignition coils. After a third return to dealer we noticed coolant odors and steam coming from tail pipe. The new diagnosis - blown head gaskets or worse. Dealer wanted $3400 to do a quick repair of gaskets with advice to get rid of truck or $7000 for a remanufactured engine. Even though this was a beautiful truck (pristine in every way but the engine) I couldn't see spending $7000 on the engine. So I limped home and called around for rebuild prices (~$4000 or so).
On an impluse I called Charlie Clay at AAMCO for advice and to my surprise Charlie said he'd help me out. I'd had tranny work done by Charlie and his guys but didn't know he was doing full service auto repair. In short, Charlie located a low milage engine through one of his contacts and gave me the details so I could purchase the engine over the phone and have it shipped straight to AAMCO. I would never have had the guts to do a deal like that if wasn't for Charlie Clay's reputation as a real standup guy. Charlie's guys went throught the engine to make sure I got what I paid for and installed it in no time. They also replaced any suspect parts in the cooling and ignition systems. The truck runs great and I'm no longer leary of driving it anywhere. I've taken it all over the southeast including LA, MS, AL, FL, GA, AR, and TX with no qualms and getting 17-20 mpg.
I couldn't be happier with the way this all worked out. I'll definitely be taking my vehicles back to Charlie Clay's AAMCO for all my maintenance/repair needs.

  • I looked up what was involved in replacing a fuel pump. I knew there would be quite a bit of labor. I was still surprised by how pricey it was for the repair. It's an old truck with many miles so only time will tell if this corrected the problem. The repair was still cheaper then looking fo another truck.

  • First, let me say that I buy and trade a lot of cars due to the high amount of miles I drive. As a result, I have dealt with virtually every major new car dealer in the San Antonio area. This dealership, by far, is one of a VERY small group that I would call the best in San Antonio.

On my first experience, in the summer of 2009, I ordered a new 2010 Toyota Prius. A few days later, the "Cash for Clunkers" program kicked off, and the entire national Toyota network was swamped. I had put down a $500 deposit, and when Toyota couldn't deliver the car in a timely manner, North Park Toyota refunded my deposit with NO problems, hassles, complications or excuses whatsoever. Good on them!

My next experience was servicing my 2009 Camry hybrid. Fast, reliable, courteous, and they have a waiting area that looks more like a vacation resort lodge than a car dealership. Plus, every time I took the car in for anything (oil change, state inspection, etc.) the car is washed and vacuumed when I get it back. Very good on them!

Now, for my last experience (Dec. 2011) is the main reason for writing this report. I traded that Toyota in on a used SUV. BLAINE WADDELL was my sales rep and Justin was the finance manager that completed the paperwork. OUTSTANDING service all around; the best price I had been offered on my traded in from anyone (including North Star Dodge (horrible) and Jordan Ford (rude used car manager) and Southway Ford, which lowballed their offer for my car) and a very fair price on the vehicle I purchased. Justin checked the rates at all local banks and credit unions, and did NOT offer any pressure to buy extended warranties or "miracles in a can" paint or fabric protectant packages.

Overall: A+ professional folks that I will use again!!!
