Carpentry/woodworking

Finish carpenters can design, build and install woodwork structures in your house to enhance the quality and adorn the attractive appearance of your home. There carpenters can complete several different jobs for new homes or remodeling of an existing house.

Baseboards and molding

Baseboards and molding serve a practical function -- covering up the space where walls and floors join, as well as protecting the wall from scuffs and dents. But they also provide a decorating opportunity.

You need a general contractor - prefereably one who specializes in additions, because you have excavation, waterproofing, concrete, concrete cutting, carpentry, door and window, etc trades to coordinate.

The cost will depend a great deal on your topography around the house - if the base of the window will be above ground level at least 6 inches, then could run about $500 for a legal egress window purchase and about $1000-2000 for installation, depending on how deep into the concrete you have to cut.

If the bottom of the window will be below ground level, then to call it a bedroom (which mandates legal sized second egress and usauully at least one window)  then you will have two choices - bring it out into a solid watertight concrete storm cellar with collar to keep water out, stairs, and and weather and bug-tight cellar door that is inward-opening, which means a lot of space for stairs and landings top and bottom, or bring it out into an oversized window well at least 36 inches in diameter, and with steps to ground level, with adequate drainage and waterproofing to keep it dry. Either way, sometimes about as easy to put in an outside door as a window, and might raise property value more. Cost from $2-5,000 depending on how deep into concrete wall you have to dig, whether concrete wsall needs reinforcing with steel frame because of the depth of cut, how easy the digging is, and what your water conditions are near the foundation. The last thing you want to do is create an easy water or vermin ingress with your egress.

Dictated by Federal LAW , you will need a Licensed and EPA Certified HVAC Contractor

to make such repairs . In fact , by law , ONLY A licenesed HVAC contractor can buy or install

said eguipment , NOT A handyman nor general contractor !

YES , You should have an A.C. sleeve surrounding the through the wall unit . These sleeves will usually accompany NEW products , either as a package or an add on equipment purchase.

It depends on what type of ramp you need. If it is built out of wood you could look for a carpenter or a deck company. If you are looking for a concrete ramp a mason would be what you are looking for. There are also metal ramps and I believe some medical supply companies may carry them or be able to steer you in the right direction. As for insurance coverage I am not sure. You may have coverage and would be best talking to your agent. Depending on why you need this ramp there may even be programs through your local government or even some of the local charities might help. It might be a project a local Scout Troop might help out on.

The crown molding installation went very well, and the provider worked with us to keep the project within our budget, explaining to us what finishing work would be required. The door frame repair was also done quickly and completely.

agreed to come by after he had finished his jobs that day to take a look at what needed fixing. He did some adjustments to the doors then came back next day with an assistant to do the bigger jobs. He was prompt and is very polite, knowledgable and personable. He fixed our doors which have been a problem for a long time and cleaned up completely. Our home was built in 1926 and he knows a lot about older homes. He was the only contractor (and there have been many who have worked in our house) who explained to us that the front door and two other doorways are on a load bearing wall and that is why there is so much movement and cracking around them. He offered to give me the details of a company that levels houses to correct this and fix our sloping floors.I will be giving them a call because he seems like an honest man and I trust his recommendations. I wouldn't hesitate to use him again to do other work and bigger jobs.

arrived right on time to give us an estimate. We discussed the scope of the work, and we agreed on the price. He arrived on time to do the work. Work done to our specifications. Work done in a timely manner and completed in one day. We discussed other projects with him. He is exceedingly honest, neat and creative. What more could we want? Highly recommended!

It was really a pleasure to work with
Woodlawn Carpenters Provider Name Locked
. He is largely a one-man operation with occasional helpers - when you hire

, you get

, not some random subcontractor. I really liked that. I contracted with him to install solid bamboo hardwood floors over a very poor subfloor. He used every trick in the book to get the subfloor where it needed to be for a quality installation and it came out significantly better than I could have hoped. He did such a good job I added a lot of work to the contract and had him do basically all that was left of the renovation. He is very precise and detail oriented, clearly taking pride in his work. His prices were very reasonable (about $50/hr) and he made coordinating the work very easy. My 60+ year old house threw any number of curve balls and he used ingenuity and creativity to work through each challenge, often going above-and-beyond with no additional charges. Just one example: the pre-hung exterior door I bought and asked him to install stuck terribly as it fit too tight...

We had recently removed the carpeting from our stairway, and had the hardwood treads underneath refurbished and refinished, and the risers freshly painted. We decided to replace the existing balustrade with something simpler and nicer to complement the beautiful new stairs. We had definite ideas about the clean, timeless look we were going for, but had not selected or puchased any stair parts.
Woodlawn Carpenters Provider Name Locked
listened to our ideas, asked questions, and then brought sample balusters, both iron and wood, to our home. He explained their features and what distinguished custom quality milled parts from less expensive products, and why some wood species and metals were more desirable than others. He also brought sample rails, newel posts, and hardware. Afterwards, he followed up with several emails back and forth, wherein we exchanged photos of additional options, he answered our questions, and suggested reasons he believed some designs and products would work better than others in our home. Once we had finalized our choices, he ordered the parts from his supplier and installed the balusters, handrails, and post. The materials he obttained were beautiful and well crafted.
Woodlawn Carpenters Provider Name Locked
did excellent, meticulous work over two days, attending to every detail, and insisting on professionalism and fine craftsmanship in all aspects of the installation process and throughout the job.

Returned all calls promptly. At the initial appointment he listened to what I wanted, measured and discussed various options of wood for the project. He also priced an alternative wood. I decided to go with the more expensive option and I am so happy with my choice .My new mantle is beautiful.

is the consummate professional craftsman. He is knowledgeable, creative, polite. very conscientious and caring of the surrounding workspace - cleaning up completely when finished. He also kept me informed in the progress of my order of the wood. I would definitely contact him for future projects.

D & B did outstanding work. They arrived promptly when they said they would. They did the work quickly and professionally and cleaned up after themselves leaving the space in better condition than when they had arrived. We will definitely use them again.
