    Breathe Easy Mold Remediation
Because this was such a high dollar work, we had several companies come in to assess the situation and give quotes.  This company was the only one who seemed to really know what they were talking about (not just giving a "this is what always we do" plan), plus they were quoting half the price of all the others.  The work took the four days they had originally planned.  They even found the source of the problem, an underground spring, put in French drains for only a small increase in price, and were still finished in the original timing.  Our neighbors saw all the work being done and asked the inspector to come look at their crawl space as well.  He said that although there was some water, it wasn't really a big problem in their situation - they could certainly come in and fix the existing problem and prevent it from becoming worse, but it wasn't essential.  We were impressed that he wasn't just trying to get another big sale.
Overall, we had a GREAT experience with them and would highly recommend them.  After completing the work, I mentioned it on fb and a friend commented she had a similar thing done by the same company several years ago.  She said it was the best company she's ever worked with, and that she has had no follow-up problems after the work was complete.

    Indoor Air Quality Specialists, Inc.
We were very pleased with the work as performed. First insulation was removed from the crawlspace and placed in a dumpster for off site removal. The mold was blasted out with a soda blaster product and mold preventative sprayed on. A gravel filled trench was dug along the block walls and a sump pump installed to pump out any water. A dehumidifier was installed to keep the humidity level within acceptable levels. We contracted an electrical contractor to provide an electrical outlet for the sump pump/dehumidifier. Foam insulation was nailed to the block walls and covered with heavy plastic. The dehumidifier was directed to the sump pump and sump pump was piped to drain outside.
Mr. Church and his crew were great to work with. Very professional, knowledgeable, and customer friendly. The project took somewhat longer to complete than they anticipated but we were patient and okay with that.

    Stay Dry Waterproofing
I called Stay Dry Waterproofing on 7/23/13, to schedule an appointment to have my crawl space looked at because it is damp, smells horrible and makes my house stink. I spoke with Angela Brindle. Angela explained that the earliest her husband, Mike, would be able to come to look at it would be Weds., 7/31/13. We agreed to that date at 6:30 PM. Shortly thereafter, Angela called back to say Mike would be able to look at it that very evening if I was interested. Mike arrived at the agreed upon time (and called me first to say he was on his way!). He bravely crawled under my house to check for leaks, standing water, etc. (Yeah, it's his job, but there's no way I would ever crawl under there, hence the "bravely" crawled.)

After looking at the crawl space Mike determined I did not need to do anything substantial to it. I need to open the vents and leave them open and have a heating/air conditioning service technician install a door with a fan on it that will turn on when the humidity level gets too high. In addition, Mike stated I need to get a gutter service technician out to clean and repair the gutters, since the overflow was causing issues with both the crawl space and the garage. In addition to getting the gutters taken care of, he suggested I have a tree service person come out and trim the tree limbs over the house so the gutters will stay cleaner longer.

Mike stated the reason the garage was having problems with flooding was because the drain pipe from the gutter was missing. He even pointed out where the wood was rotted because of the water. As for the french drain, he instructed me to get all of the weeds cleaned out of it and any debris so the water could actually flow. (Gee, why didn't I think of that?)

During his inspection to provide me with an estimate, Mike told me (1) I do not need anything done to the crawl space and don't let anyone tell me otherwise (2) get the gutters taken care of and the french drain cleaned out and the rest of the issues will be resolved (3) if that doesn't take care of the problem, call him back and he'll see what he can do.

I was expecting to shell out a lot of money to get my crawl space "sealed" and was reluctant to find out what the cost would be. I was expecting to need a dehumidifier and a sump pump. It was a pleasant surprise (and a huge relief) to find out that I didn't need either. Once I get the repairs made that Mike suggested, I'll contact him to let him know if those suggestions took care of the problem. I can tell you this, if I EVER have any need for this type of service, or hear of a friend in need of this type of service, I will most definitely be calling Stay Dry Waterproofing. In fact, I've added them to my iPhone address book. I hope I don't need it, but if I do...

    BOSTON HOME INSPECTION, INC.
He generated a report with photographs which was nice. Left out of the report were many things that he told me in person and many problems that I found myself and showed him. He is probably an ok inspector but I was not impressed that he is the best inspector. He told me he worked for a pharmaceutical company before going into home inspection and so he may not have the background that other inspectors typically have (contractors, construction, etc..).
