    Sears Appliance Repair
This review is more about what Sears DID NOT do. I called Sears for an in-home service call / repair. The representative was pleasant on the phone, but very matter-of-fact. She asked me if the unit was purchased at Sears and I told her it was not. But, the customer service rep. assured me that servicing an out-of-warranty unit purchased elsewhere was not a problem at all because they sell and service the Maytag brand- and so said they would schedule a repair.
After taking all my information, they looked up my address but could not find it, even though I am in a neighborhood that has been established for over six years and despite the fact Sears had already been to my house about six months earlier for a different appliance repair. I was then told a repair technician would call me back within 24 hours to schedule a service appointment.
Two days later, I called Sears again for a status update on when the technician was going to call. The customer service rep. gave me a number to call and reschedule. I called and got the same exact response, "a service technician will call you within 24 hours to set up a date and time."
Sears never did schedule the repair, or follow-up. Most frustrating was the fact that after I had already contacted another company (who come out the next day and repaired the unit) Sears finally called 2 weeks later and asked if we still needed a repair. My response was "no," and "I won't be recommending Sears in-home service to anyone I associate with."

    Expert Services (Mike's Maytag)
I called Mike's Maytag to see if they could make a service call on my dishwasher. They set up the appointment and the technician called back (from Expert Services) within an hour or so to set up the date and time, which happened to be the very next morning. The technician came out, and without knowing my exact model number or what was wrong, very quickly diagnosed and fixed the dishwasher with one of the well stocked parts on his truck. In fact, Expert Services warranties the parts they sell and use for 3 years, which is 2 years beyond the manufacturers warranty on anything.
The technician was very friendly and offered a lot of information to our questions about our product. My wife asked the tech to give a quote on a part, should it go out in the future and he said he would check on it for us. Having forgotten to tell her the quote, the technician called back to the house and apologized for not remembering to give the part quote while he was at the house and gave her the information she needed over the phone as he had promised.
This is the first time we used this service provider, but we are very happy and will have them back again.

    SEARS
I called Sears Home Services (and used their online chat option as well) to set up an in-home repair of our 2-year-old dishwasher. Because our new subdivision is still to be added to Google maps, they told me they could not find our address and therefore would not be able to come out. I explained to customer service, that they had in fact been out several months ago to service our dryer and all the technician needed was the closest cross-street and would call when he was getting close so we could give more detailed directions. It was no problem.
However, on this call, and again on chat, Sears told us they would schedule an appointment and would have the technician call us within 24 hours to set up a service appointment. They never called.
I called Sears again to find out what was going on. Again, they said we'll have the technician call us as soon as possible. Again no one ever called. I complained to their customer service department who apologized, but again said, there is nothing they can do. In my opinion, clearly they do not value customer service nor do they really care about their customers.
I called a local repair guy who was recommended by some friends who had good experiences. That guy called back in an hour, scheduled for the next morning and came out to the house fully prepared with parts; he fixed it on the spot. Sears however, is no longer in my list of places to consider for a repair of any product I own. I highly recommend that if you call Sears for an in-home repair, and they tell you they will have someone call you back, don't expect they are telling the truth. Telling you something and actually doing something are two very different things and Sears does not value my business enough to follow through. Therefore I have taken my business elsewhere.
