    Choice Home Warranty
I did not receive a call from the serviceman to let me know he was on his way to my house, but he did arrive within the time frame indicated to me by Choice Home. The technician was very courteous and completed his work very quickly. When I started to use my debit card to pay him, he said he didnt accept cards. So I had to give him a check. It would have been helpful to know ahead of time about his policy regarding cards. In my case, it didnt affect me very much, but if I had been someone who didnt have funds in the bank to cover his fee, or if I hadnt had my checkbook, it would have created a problem. Also, I was not given a receipt for my payment or given a statement showing what work was done.

    Choice Home Warranty
In summary, a nightmare. My first experience filing a claim (garbage disposal) was smooth and as expected. Subsequently I had a rash of home issues. Including water leak, clothes dryer and HVAC. The first horrific experience was with the plumbing. The technician sent was incompetent, unskilled and as I later learned not licensed as a plumber. Yet Choices relies on his assessment that a leaking copper pipe was due to corrosion. A licensed plumber that corrected his mistakes later said it was a result of wear caused by the pipe rubbing a hoist. Yet, Choices denied my claim and I paid the incompetent technician $230 for an emergency patch. There was no mechanism for challenging the denial without allowing further home damage. A third claim, clothes dryer resulted in my waiting within a 5 hour window on for the technician to call afterward to reschedule after I had taken off work. Then, he offered to bypass the assessment and just order the parts if Id pay him the $45 service charge soas to accommodate my inability to take off multiple days of work to meet him. He also complained that he wouldnt purchase parts until he had been paid because Choices was terrible about paying the technicians for parts and service. The last claim, HVAC has resulted in 2 no shows by the technician. I requested a different provider after the first but client service asked that I give them a second chance. Ultimately the company lost track of their technician because he would answer the companys office call to him. We now painfully await a second company that Choices has scheduled. Ive had a number of friends ask me about my experience as they are buying homes. I share a Consumer Reports article on Choices with them and tell them to RUN!

    Home Buyers Resale Warranty Corporation
This was the home warranty provider for our home purchased last April. During the coldest period of our winter on February 24, the hotel unit HVAC in our sunroom/home office began making unusual noises. I called 2-10, gave them the details of the unit and the problem, and they opened a service ticket. A local HVAC service company came out but immediately said they don't service hotel units. I had specifically noted the type of unit that was the problem in my call to 2-10. However, they had to collect the $100 deductible. I gave them a cc for payment and they said they would contact the warranty provider to have it reassigned to a company that does service these units. I waited to be contacted with no word from anyone. I called 2-10 again on 3/3 and they opened a new ticket with a company they thought serviced the units since they do commercial hotel work. Again, no word or contact from anyone. I called the HVAC company directly on 3/9 and they said they do not service these units so could not take the work order. I called 2-10 back and they opened a third ticket and said they would research companies in the area and call me back. No further word. Today, 13 March, I called 2-10 again and cancelled the service request and requested my $100 deductible back. The service agent said she did not have the authority to refund the deductible but would send an email to their Customer Care department who would call me within the next 24 hours to discuss it. If I do not have a call within 24 hours confirming my refund, I will contact my credit card company.

    Old Republic Home Protection
One of our A/C units quit unexpectedly (in the heat of summer time!) so, when I called ORHP I requested expedited service due to a family member's health issues.
They contacted a company who came right out the next business day and had the problem resolved within 5 minutes. The part that broke was on their truck.
This was excellent customer service and 9 out of 10 times their service providers are excellent. I would recommend ORHP to anyone shopping for coverage on their home.
This year their coverage has expanded and the trade service fee has dropped from
$100.00 to $75.00.We have used American Home Shield in the past at our old house and were pleased with the coverage the prior owner provided for our first year here and have stayed with them.
