    Hutzel Construction
I had nothing but a wonderful experience with Hutzel. Everyone, from the demo crew to our project manager, Kim, were so very supportive and professional. Renovating a home is stressful, but knowing I had such a fantastic team behind me was assuring. Any issues-they were minor and few-were immediately addressed and rectified. We came to Hutzel after being burned by another contractor. We were made to feel encouraged that we were now in the right hands and love the work and expertise that was poured into our home. My family and I cannot thank Hutzel, and especially Kim, enough. Sad to say that customer service is lacking these days, but for Hutzel Construction, it was the cornerstone of a fruitful partnership.

Just the facts backed up by photos:

Project began in April 2013 with the demolition of my old house (which took a couple weeks) and the new home was not complete till August 2014, we moved in the 27th. So roughly this was a year and four months project. It started out really well but as the projected finish time kept getting pushed back farther and farther things started going south. Originally responsiveness and professionalism was an A but by mid-way to the end it became an F. I was talked to like I was an idiot and disrespected many times. Punctuality was always good till September 3 when he quit (after being paid) so I went ahead with a B there because he did mostly show up when he said he would till that happened.

Jesse was my contractor but since I pulled all the permits myself (he isn't licensed) and there was nothing in writing (my stupidity) I guess legally all I can say is he was paid to "oversee" the building of my home. Which he did, but he was he was always on his subs side, never on mine, and I was the customer. He didn't push the subs and didn't make them correct mistakes, rather came up with excuses for them. Also his company did a huge portion of the work themselves so I will stick to commenting only on that.

The woodwork on the ceilings of my wrap around porch looks great, very happy with that and the columns. However the rest of the stuff that was done, trim etc. I'm having some problems with, among other things HIS subs did. I will attach photos as I feel they speak for themselves and try to stick with just commenting on the actual work he himself did. The pocket door in the laundry room won't open and close without scraping and ruining the paint. Also when closed the bottom butts up and the top is off by an inch or more. The doors are hard to open and close. The dead bolts aren't all put on the same, some turn up to lock some turn down. The trim work has screws / nails backing out of it and the trim is separating from the ceiling and most of the caulk has cracked. Structurally the house seems so far so good; however, as far as the interior goes there are a lot of cosmetic problems.

My biggest problem though is the fact that I was told I had a year warranty on the house. Before everything was 100% complete Jesse quit (he had already been paid in full). I have contacted him numerous times about the pocket door and some other issues and he will not return calls or honor his work. Last contact was September 3 when he said he would no longer be a part of the job that he was paid for. I have been unable to reach him via text, email, or phone calls about the warranty.

Jesse definitely talks the talk and I THOUGHT that he would walk the walk and be extremely picky. I believed him to be a perfectionist which is why I chose him to do my work because I am picky myself. I was disappointed to find out this wasn't the case. Probably, due to the fact that he hasn't honored his work and quit on me, I should have rated F across the board, but I'm not going to do that. Quality on the trim is terrible as you can see in the photos, quality on the porch and outside columns is great so that is the only reason I went with a "D" for quality rather than an F.

    A Bath Haven
I was in a hurry to get my bathroom floor and shower tiled before the holiday. Another Angie's list reviewed provider in our area, who is a friend or family member of Dylan the owner of a bath haven referred us since he was unavailable. I will need to update my review when I find the name of the other company since I assume they will be just as unprofessional. The first day, they began working as soon as we agreed upon work and price. Since It was a rushed project, he was supposed to bring the contract the next day which would include all work done and his standard 2 year workmanship warranty. 2 days after the job was finished our grout started turning a very dark color in certain spots. I called Dylan and he confirmed what I had researched online, the grout was not mixed properly and the would need to be removed and replaced. After constant calling and texting him he finally got back to us about a month later and promised he would come by and fix the grout and bring the contract.... Never happened. Now he is totally avoiding us and will only answer our calls if it comes from a different number. I had no problem giving him a second chance to resolve this but seems he would rather a bad review. I felt comfortable using his company because he is very professional and convincing when we talked to him. He also had a A+ BBB decal on his work vehicle.. I will soon find out if it was a scam since my next bad review will be with them. I wanted a company to do this project so I would have the piece of mind of a warranty in case anything was done wrong, which I'm sure there are going to be many more improper installation issues that arise. But now, I'm realizing I could have saved money and headaches by doing the same rushed mediocre work myself. Please save yourself the problems and go with a different company in the area.

I contacted the owner Jessie and he was very professional and told me it would be a couple of months before he could get to my job. He was very busy on another project. He showed me pictures of some of his work and after receiving all the estimates, I decided to go with him because his pictures showed me he knew what he was doing. Although he was not the cheapest estimate, I am so happy I went with his company. I paid him 1/2 down and we agreed on a start date. He called me and was there exactly on time to start. He went to the paint store and brought the old fan deck back to my house to match my inside paint because it was 15 years old. They did still have my paint color and he matched it perfect. He painted the outside with the duration paint by Sherwin Williams that I asked for also. He cleaned up everything and hauled the old door away. I am so happy with the way it turned out and highly recommend him and plan on using his company again!

    Hutzel Construction
In late January, I called Hutzel Construction and left a message concerning remodeling a bathroom.  Before the day was over, Jeff Hutzel called me and agreed to come to my house and look at the bathroom.  We agreed on a time and date and Jeff came to my house as scheduled.  I explained to Jeff what I would like to have done and after he examined the area and asked a few questions and then said that he could do the work.  Jeff said he would send me a proposal describing the work we discussed, the cost, and the materials that I will need to provide.  I gave Jeff my e-mail address and he said he would get the proposal to me in about a week.
About 10 days later, I received Jeff's proposal.  My wife and I discussed the proposal, came up with a list of questions for Jeff and during the course of the next 6 weeks, I e-mailed Jeff several times and he was very quick to get back to me providing me with
information I needed.  My wife and I decided that this was a good deal so I called Jeff and asked him to prepare a contract for the work.  We agreed on a time and date and Jeff came to my house as scheduled on 23 March and we signed the contract. I gave him the required down payment of $2,149 with the final payment upon completion of the work.  The scheduled start date for the
work was 4 April and completion on or before18 April.  Jeff and his workman were promptly on time each day, did not waste any time during this project, were careful in keeping other areas of the house and property very clean, very  professional, and they took pride in their work.  I checked the progress of the work throughout each day and was very pleased with the final inspection and completion of the work on 11 April.  This was a pleasant experience to work with the Hutzel Construction people who believe in quality work.

Also, Jeff gave a 10% senior discount which was very much appreciated.

My experience was excellent.  I added a few things but he pretty much stuck with the bid.  The work was done in a timely fashion and it pretty much went like he said it would go.  I was very pleased.  I would definitely use him again.
