Concrete Repair reviews in Madison

    AAA Concrete
We hired Tom to pour a new concrete patio on the back of our house. We researched Angie's List and had other contractors come out, but went with Tom because of his good ratings. We used the reviews, because we have been burned by a contractor before on granite countertops and wanted to use a highly rated contractor for this job. Tom was very professional when the job started and talked like he was a stand up guy who like his business card and Angie's list info states his jobs are "quality work that lasts". We know not every job is the same and ours happens to be that one that has some issues. We have been working and communicating with Tom for months and continue to be pushed down further on the calendar and now he is not responding at all. We are hoping he will respond to this review and help get this project fixed. We have had several large cracks. One was filed twice already the second time with a filler that was a different color than the concrete making it stand out horribly. Tom agreed that the solution would be to tear it out and pour again possibly putting in footers and ensuring the ground underneath was properly prepared. The slab poured is nearly a foot thick on the end and has broke away and sinking since it was poured. There was a repair job done in February 2017 and the same repair again in May 2017, but this particular job was never complete from the beginning. Tom came out to look at again in August 8, 2017, and stated he had to rent equipment to do the tear out and was trying to coordinate with another job. I understand this is not priority and probably a pain as we have already paid, but now it is December 17. The last text from Tom was on Nov 21, 2017, stating he would be here the first week of December and since then he has not returned our calls or texts. I have put up reviews on Angie's list before that he responded to that expressed my feelings about this negative experience, and took it down when he talked to us in August and seemed to be an honest and stand up guy who would make it right. I hope to have this resolved quickly as we cannot do any type of finishing stain or sealing with the patio in the state it is now. We have tried to be patient as we know things happen, but we really need this fixed. Our calls and text and messages on Angie's list pleading to have this resolved need to be answered. We wanted this to be a home improvement to add to the value of our home and we paid a large chunk of money for this and want the product to reflect that. Being in customer service for over 20 years I understand how to work with an unhappy customer, and I always apologize up front and take all steps necessary to make it right and I expected the same from Tom. I hired Tom to be a professional that would deliver quality product that lasts and rely on his expertise to do a job he knows would meet his standards and not just for the money. We are at the end of our rope trying to get this resolved.

    AAA Concrete
After contacting Tom through Angie's list, we set up a time for an estimate. Tom showed up on time and prepaired for my MANY questions. The initial meeting was a great experience. We went over what was my initial plan, Tom told me exactly how the job would go and what to expect. As I said I ask a lot of questions and Tom was patient and also gave me some great ideas. (money saving ideas!) I received other estimates, consulted with my dad on a couple of things and ended up changing my initial plan. Tom gladly came out AGAIN to talk about the changes and gave me a new estimate. We scheduled the project while he was here the second time. We ended up having to delay by a couple of days due to the Labor Day holiday which was no big deal. When it came time to get started Tom and his guys were here on time or EARLY...(that never happens!) and everything went as planned. They left everything neat and clean and pretty much ready to enjoy. I am looking forward to working with Tom again on a couple of more projects. I would reccomed AAA to anyone who is looking for this type of work. Expect professionalism, punctuality and a super laid back experience.

    K & R Concrete
I first contacted Keith in October 2008 and hired him for the job in May 2009. He responded very quickly and brought his crew to break up and remove the existing patio and sidewalk as well as remove a koi pond (including tiles on the side of the house). We briefly reviewed what was discussed in October, and they got to work shortly after arriving. Once the site was cleared of the old concrete (the original patio foundation remained), they began marking off the outline for the new patio. I was distracted with our 2 children and was unable to monitor all their progress. His female employee attracted my attention to ask me if what Keith was marking off was correct or not (it seemed a little odd to her). In fact, he had neglected to mark off the boundary for a new sidewalk. Our deck steps led down to the old sidewalk, so there would've only been mud/grass present instead of a sidewalk. I clarified to him then that we wanted him to replace the sidewalk that was removed. I should've spent more time initially making sure he remembered exactly what was expected. He quickly had his crew re-do the demarcation and poured the new patio and sidewalk. I have little experience with concrete and am ignorant of how level one should expect a patio to be. It looked quite level until it rained later in the day revealing the contours. It's pretty level (with one spot that pools somewhat) and certainly slopes away from the house. Keith and another employee returned a couple of days later (after the concrete had dried & it wasn't raining) to put the concrete on the side of the house to match the style on that portion of the house (similar to a stucco look). All of the old concrete pieces and most of the koi pond pieces were removed by K & R. There were several bricks and other pieces left in the yard. I think there was a miscommunication regarding what remnants were to remain and what was to be removed. The workers also moved several plants out of the way while the work was being done. I had expected them to return them, but they did not. Again, I don't think we communicated well enough. Also, they had to remove several boards of our wooden fence for the concrete truck to pour the concrete. These boards were replaced. A couple of weeks after the job was completed (and following several hot and dry days), the patio still had some dark areas that looked as if those areas were wet (although we knew they couldn't still be). I called and left a message for Keith's input as to whether or not this was normal and what we could expect to happen. I never received a return call. The splotches eventually cleared up. Within 2 months, there were very small cracks that had formed at various places in the patio and along a corner. Again, I'm not sure if this is normal. I asked Keith before he left what we should do if cracks appeared, and he replied that there wouldn't be any. He said any cracks that occurred should appear in the grooves placed in the patio and sidewalk itself. I don't know what size cracks he was referring to. One other thing to mention is that most (if not all) of the crew smoked on the job, which is fine, except there were quite a few cigarette butts left in the yard and driveway (just the sort of thing my kids are likely to pick up and put in their mouths).
