    Parker's Workshop
Angies list review of Parkers Workshop Allen parker is a delight to work with. We have used his company for three major projects in our home since 2014. The level of expertise and care he provides us is extraordinary. He goes the extra mile for us in regards to dust control and clean up, knowing our need as we are a growing family with babies in the home ever since we started working with him. We trust his workers completely, even leaving them in our home as we go away for the duration of the demos. Allen is a perfectionist and really goes over his work with a fine toothed comb. Another amazing thing he does is stays in frequent contact with the home owner during the entire planning and building process, followed by a follow up session a few weeks later to make sure the home owner is completely happy. He uses good design input as well as functionality.

This went well. We went into it knowing it would be messy and take several days, after we accepted HandyWorks estimate they did a walk-through before work started and explained the impact we could expect, asked about particular items of concern, explained that they would put up barriers and so forth to contain the mess as much as possible and keep it off the wood floors, and set out the initial plan for the sequence of work, understanding cure and dry times can vary. We had a very large area of popcorn ceiling to scrape down with a few odd angles and an adjacent hallway, much of it higher than standard, needed to repair a hole big enough for an adult to drop through from the attic, properly attach the previously-only-nailed ceiling with screws, resurface and paint ceiling, peel grasscloth wallpaper from tall walls and repair and paint walls. We are very satisfied with the results. Watching friends & fam deal with contractors over the years, I'd concluded that no project meets its original timeline and there are always some little stupid problems. There was pleasantly little of that, we had a minor phone number mixup which may have trivially affected the job scheduling and we didn't discover until later, and the job only went one day longer than the plan, which was due to tape pulling off some old paint in a hallway (I've done this before too, happens particularly when prior paint job was inexpert) and HandyWorks matched paint for the repair to make it right and took care of it immediately. Rodney, Fresmenda, Al and the rest of the team were all pleasant to deal with and did a good job, showed up when they said they would and kept us notified of milestones and progress. We paid a deposit of half on the first day and the balance after final walk-through. The final state looks really good. It probably says the most that we started setting up an estimate for a completely unrelated job with Handyworks as they finished clean up and were leaving from this one.

Dean with HandyWorks called promptly to schedule, Eddie came out as scheduled, inspected as we explained how the leak manifested. Dean delivered a quote promptly to tuck point the brick where mortar had deteriorated and seal the flashing as needed. We accepted it, and work was scheduled for that weekend, and performed bright and early. Eddie is a cheerful gentleman. Since the leak only manifests with a rather hard rain, and that was predicted within a few days, Dean told me they'd check back to make sure it was sorted before payment was rendered. The majority of leak was fixed, but there was still a minor drip, Dean scheduled us for a revisit soon thereafter, and after a lot of testing with a water hose, found one more little gap and sealed it up. They were apologetic it took more than one trip, but it seems to me that with something you have to fix dry but can only verify wet, this is somewhat expected. Dean and Eddie assured me that if we see any further issues with this leak, they will come back as needed. I am satisfied and expect I will call on Handyworks again for future house projects.

The work was excellent. I don't know if they outsourced. They emailed you their invoice. I got the invoice. I think I held it about a couple of days because when they sent it I didn't have the money right away, but anyway I mailed it to them. I was out of town and they called me yesterday. They asked me did I send them the money. I'm the type of person that check my checking account every day. I had written them a check; the check had cleared, it was for like $156. I said ma'am you all had gotten the money and the check cleared and I told them the date it cleared and everything. they did called back and apologized. It made me think about how are they handling the office procedures that they don't know about what's coming in on their receivables and payables and all of that kind of stuff. I just wondered about that that made me a little nervous there. I don't know if it's a smaller business, but I just wondered how they were handling their receivables and their payables. They did call and apologized. At least they did call and apologize. A lot of people do that kind of stuff and they don't call back and say anything. They did call back and apologized. I really thought they were a little bit high. I purchased the garbage disposal myself, and I think the guy was here 45 minutes. I don't know if the man was a plumber, I guess that's understandable. I guess that's in line with what everybody else is charging. One company I found on a site too. I thought they were way, way, way over the top high. They quoted me a price of about 600 bucks, but they were going to split the cost with us. I still thought they were a little pricey, though, because I think I paid $199 for the garbage disposal. They were talking about $600 to install a garbage disposal, I said naw, naw I don't think so. Id like to know what my cost is going in. They charged me $156, but I was desperate I needed that thang done. The only thing I didn't like about it was that I didn't know how much the cost was going to be until I got the bill and when I saw that price I said: "Oh, that's high.". They had responded because the one I had was leaking.

Matthew has exceeded expectations on this job. Parts were about $25 more than initially quoted but that happens. We gave him a 2 week time frame to work with and he managed to get out there in the first few days and knock it out ahead of schedule. Very professional and pleasant to work with!

I didn't like it. It was supposed to be for four hours of work. But what they did was, they brought a helper out here and cut it to two hours. All he did was watch the other guy do the work. I thought that was a rip-off. Then, they charged me more. It was about $200. They charged me for two more hours. I thought that was horrible. Their punctuality was good. The workers were okay. They were just deceptive.

I cannot praise this man  more.  He is not only competent and efficient but he is a very personable and gracious person. He is a joy to talk too. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone who ask and I intend to tell all of my friends who need Handymen about his work, which I deem to be excellent.

The barn repair was added after the other work was scheduled, and I had difficulty having the owner respond to my phone calls to add the work.  I finally sent and email, explaining why I wanted him to contact me, and telling him of my frustration over his non-response.  We talked on the phone, and after that, everything was much better.  Contacting him via email worked very well after that.
The work done in the den was flawless.  The bedroom repair was acceptable, but after I showed a few concerns to the owner (not requesting a redo, I will point out) Rodney (the owner) contacted me and said he wanted the area to be redone.  He very much requires quality work, for which I was grateful.
His people showed up when he said they would, and they finished in a timely manner.  I would recommend Handyworks, and would use them again.

    S & M Customs

I had work done by S & M Customs in September, 2014 and they did a good job.  Most recently, I contacted them on January 8, 2015 regarding additional service.  I was told that they could come out on Tuesday, January 13 and didn't need to go through Angie's list because I had already used their service.  Since they didn't show up on January 13, I called and was told that they were going to Collierville and wouldn't be available all day and they suggested that I call them the next day, January 14.  When I called them on January 14, I left a voicemail message on both of their contact numbers and since they didn't return my call, I called again on Friday, January 16 and left a voicemail message on both of their contact numbers.  Since I still haven't heard from them, I decided to write this review.  In my opinion, their behavior is unprofessional and perhaps they preferred to do a larger more expensive job instead of my small job.  Anyway, I just wanted Angie's list to know this.  I do not plan to use S & M Customs again, and the next time I need a handyman I'll get a different one from Angie's.

Thank you, Angie's for your wonderful service!
