    Fix-It-Right Appliance
BEWARE OF OWNER! The tech who came to repair my washing machine was friendly. He ran more than TWO hours late, but, to his credit, he did call and let me know. When he arrived, he put out a cigarette on his way in to my house, and he reeked of cigarette smoke. Gross. He spent at the VERY most 30 min at my house, cleaning the filter and telling me my machine was fixed. I go to do a load of laundry that night, and I have the same draining issue. I called to schedule them to come out again but requested a different tech. Gal told me that's not what they normally do but would talk to the owner. She also confirmed I would not have to pay the service fee again since I was calling within the time frame of the initial repair. Twice, I specifically asked her about paying the service fee, and her answer was no. This morning I got a call from the owner who started off by telling me I would have to pay the service fee again because the tech didn't install any parts. This doesn't make sense because my machine is giving me the exact same error message as it did before--meaning it was not fixed. I took a pic of the error message the night the tech came out, so I have proof that it immediately malfunctioned again. I also explained to the owner that the tech told me I would not have to pay the service fee if I needed to call back within their time frame (30 days from service, I believe). The owner said, "Well, if he was nice enough to tell you that, then he is the only one who can come out. And I talked to him about the cigarette and he said he puts them out at his truck." RUDE. RUDE. RUDE. His tone started to get hostile, so I told him that I would just use a different repair company from now on. No sooner had the words left my mouth that he HUNG UP ON ME! What business owner does that?!?!?!? One who shouldn't be in business, especially in service!

    Mid State Appliance Repair
Excellent experience. Floyd was a good communicator in letting us know what to expect. His prices are very fair and reasonable. He was upfront about expectations in fixing an older machine but understood why our preference was repair, not replace. I would definitely use him again.

    Sears Appliance Repair
Service was really easy to schedule on line and met our time requirements. Service rep was on time, diagnosed/fixed the problem within 20 minutes, and had the appropriate parts with him. He was professional and left the bad parts with us to verify what had been replaced. Machine has been working fine since the repair. I would definitely use this service again.

    Dan Demers Appliance Repair
I had seen Dan's truck around town and wanted to hire someone local. I left a message, repeating my phone number twice, on his voicemail last Friday afternoon. It said if it was a weekend to possibly expect to not receive a call back until Monday. It being a dishwasher, I thought, "no big deal". It is now the following Wednesday night and still no call back. A lot of hand washing of dishes for a family of five! I gave up on Dan Monday night and called the manufacturer who was scheduled to come today to repair it. However, luckily I was able to resolve the problem myself by reading the technician's repair manual on the internet and running some diagnostics and resets. If you need a quick response, maybe you shouldn't call Dan Demers.

    SOLL'S REFRIGERATION & AC
The gentlemen arrived promptly and repaired the seal within minutes without actually having to put new parts on or ordering anything. He was very friendly and knew what he was talking about. I would gladly call / pay for their service in the future as they seem to know what they're doing.

    New Life Appliance, LLC
Last summer our refrigerator was leaking and not cooling correctly. I was very impressed with this company mostly because the technician made sure that the job got done quickly and correctly even though that meant he had to order parts and come back a few times for everything to work right again. When my home warranty company connected us to them again for service on our refrigerator this spring, I knew we would get great service, which we did. If you need repairs call New Life Appliance!

    1 & Dunn Appliance Repair
We were very pleased in every respect. We really needed same day service if possible and he agreed to add our job to his schedule at the end of a long day. He arrived when committed and performed the repair efficiently - got us up and running again quickly. Our laundry equipment is quite old (the old stuff lasts for years - worth repairing) and we'll definitely use him again if needed.

    Mr Appliance
About as badly as it could. I called and they scheduled someone to come out, that part worked well. They made the repair (without telling us the price) but since it was within the price we wanted to spend that would have been fine had the repair worked. I got home from work about 4 hours after they left and the refrigerator was not cooling. I immediately called and left a message thinking I would get a call back the next day. I did not. I called late the next day and was told I would get a call back. I did not. I missed a day and called Friday afternoon. When I explained this was my third call she said I did not really need a call back I needed the tech to come out again as the repair was under warranty. I said fine and it was scheduled for Tuesday. He came out and said the compressor had failed the warranty was void.No other comments except to say that I should not have left it plugged in when it was not cooling. This was a Tuesday. My opinion is they should not have done the repair without testing to see if the compressor was working. I called them on Tuesday and left a message. I also posted a message on the Mr. Appliance corporate site. I called twice on Wednesday and left a message for the owner Mark Leberte by name, no call back. I called twice on Thursday and left messages for Mark, no call back, I called once on Friday and left a message for Mark, no call back. My favorite part about this is Mr. Appliance has the tag line that their mission is "To create encore experiences that customers can't wait to share with others." I told them they succeeded. I will share this everywhere I can. The idea that you can just refuse to return calls to your customers is just unacceptable. My next steps is to post this story in every place I can do a review. If I still don't hear from them this week I will decide what my next steps are.

    THE VACUUM SHOP
Vacuum was pepared very timely - within 1 day, and work was very satisfactory. Note: I took the vacuum into their shop, although Angie's List doesn't seem to accept an alternative for "Location of Service".

    All Better Appliance LLC
We initially were happy with the service we received on our dishwasher.  However it quickly became apparent that something was wrong.  After the pump was replaced it was very noisy and did not clean dishes well.  We were also getting new error codes that were not there before.  It took 3 weeks to get a call back from All Better despite several attempts to contact them, which is why I am giving them a poor grade on responsiveness and a somewhat diminished grade on professionalism.  After we finally got ahold of them the technician returned and said that the drain hose under the sink had fallen.  Also, the new error codes were because a control board had failed and needed to be replaced.  We were told that we would be called the next day with the price of the control board.  Instead, a week went by and then we were called and told that the part had come in, and asked when we wanted to have it installed.  Sometime after the second visit, we realized that the dishwasher had a significant leak and was doing damage to our hardwood floors and cabinets.  The unit was not leaking before the first time it was worked on.  This time communication was pretty good, and the owner of the company came out right away.  He showed me where the leak was coming from, the sump assembly, and on further inspection inside the dishwasher I could see where the seal around the drain inside had come up.  He verified on the phone with his technician that he had not intentionally taken apart that part of the dishwasher at any point.

So what really happened?  No one knows, for sure.  We know that the unit wasn't damaging the floors before it was worked on the first time, but it's also pretty clear that the source of the leak wasn't the part they directly worked on.  It is possible, I suppose, that the leak was originally small and was there the whole time, and may have been the cause of the pump and other failures in the first place.  But then why the floor damage?  My opinion is that something they did to repair the pump, or something that happened putting the dishwasher back in place jostled the seal on the sump assembly and either created or exacerbated the leak, putting the rest of the chain of events into motion.  Either that, or the leak was the cause of the pump failure and all the other failures in the first place, and they misdiagnosed it.   In my opinion they are at least partially if not fully responsible for the damage that was done to my floors and cabinet, but since it is not coming directly from the parts they serviced there is no way to prove it.

In terms of fairness, I do have to say, assuming that they are not responsible for the leak, they refunded the full amount we paid for the initial visit.  So now at least in addition to the dishwasher, cabinet, and floor I have to replace I'm not out the $200 for the repair work that they did.  I do believe what I was told, which was that if the parts they directly installed had leaked, they would have taken responsibility for 100% of the damage.  I'm just disappointed that with the situation being what it is, that there is (to me) enough circumstantial evidence that there is a reasonable chance that they are at least in part responsible, that I'm on my own for the repairs to my home.
