    12/6/13 - I was quoted $4300 to install a metal roof on my house & storage
    building, complete vinyl siding around a french door & install 5"
    seamless gutters. We later changed to 6" gutters which was going to
    increase the price by $150 which my wife & I were perfectly fine with.
    - Gave Rusty a check for $2500 to get started. Week of 12/27/13 the roof was
    complete on the house while we were out of town for the holidays. Called Rusty
    on 12/30/13 & he hoped to have metal for building here ASAP & also
    spoke to him about changing to 6" instead of 5" gutters at this time
    & also questioned him about being able to see the boards under the metal
    roof & he told me that would be taken care of when the gutters were done.
    Metal roof on building was complete the week of 1/6/14 & Rusty was written
    a check on 1/9/14 for $1300. This brings the total to $3800 that Rusty has been
    paid which covers the metal roof on both the house & building & the
    vinyl work around my french door. I called Rusty on 1/22/14 & he said he
    had the vinyl at the shop & was waiting for above freezing temps to
    complete the vinyl work. 1/28/14 - called & left a voicemail just before
    10am on Rusty's cell phone requesting a status of the job & when his crew
    would be here later in the week since the temps were getting warmer & I
    never received a response. 1/29/14 - called Rusty's cell phone 7-8 times &
    left 2 messages on his cell phone & a message with his secretary &
    never received a call back from anyone with a status. 1/30/14 - spoke with
    Rusty at 10am he stated his dad had open heart surgery. I told him about back
    porch screen being torn while roof was being done since his employees never
    told him about it. I told him the vinyl siding & gutters needing to be
    completed. Rusty said he'd have a crew there this afternoon to do vinyl &
    that the gutter guy had been backed up due to cold weather but hopefully he'd
    be there Friday. As of 3:15pm, no one has been at the house to do anything.
    1/31/14 - My wife called Rusty around 11:00am & Rusty said vinyl guys will
    be here soon but gutter guy is still behind. 1/31/14 - 3:15pm - I called &
    left Rusty a message on his cell phone expressing my frustration & wanted
    an honest answer of when someone would be here to finish the job.
    - Received called from Secretary the employee that was suppose to to the job
    had a water pipe bust or something to this nature but they would be out
    Saturday morning to complete the job. 2/1/14 - 10:49am - Received call from
    secretary & the guy was sick but they would be out she assumed on Monday to
    complete the job. 2/5/14 - my wife called & left VM on Rusty's cell around
    1:18pm & no response. 2/9/14 - Between 3 & 4pm I called & left
    message on Rusty's cell phone requesting status update & no response.
    2/10/14 - called around 1pm & left VM on Rusty's cell phone & on office
    phone requesting date & time of when job will be complete & no
    response. From here the dates get sketchy since I wasn't as diligent with my
    note taking. One day in late Feb. or early March one of Rusty's employees
    showed up with the wrong color of siding & wasn't able to perform any work.
    I finally spoke with Rusty & he said he'd get the siding ASAP. 3/10/14 -
    Rusty's employee shows up & installs approximately 80% of the siding. I was
    able to speak with Rusty shortly thereafter & he said he'd have more siding
    ASAP. By 3/12/14 we had more siding that someone dropped off at my house but no
    one ever came to install it. I can't tell you how many times my wife & I
    called requesting a status update on this project & never received return
    phone calls. My wife called Rusty on 3/24/14 & informed him that he had
    until Friday 3/28/14 to complete the job or his services at our residence were
    no longer needed. I called Rusty on 3/27/14 & let him know how displeased I
    was with his service & lack of customer service & this was the worst
    This is the info we found on the BBB page.  Unfortunately, this was after we had already hired them, or we never would have hired them.   
    "In January 2014, BBB contacted the company to request documentation that they are properly licensed to offer home improvement/general contracting services; however, the company failed to respond.BBB also contacted the Tennessee Contractor's Licensing Board to inquire about the company's licensing status; however, we were unable to locate a license for A-1 Exteriors or Rusty James.This company has a pattern of customer complaint alleging contract issues and guarantee/warranty issues.Specifically, complaints allege consumers paid for roofing and related services; however, the company failed to fulfill its contractual agreements. In addition, complaints allege failure of the company to honor warranty related work.On February 10, 2014, BBB sent certified correspondence to the company requesting their voluntary cooperation in resolving complaints on file with BBB as well as their assistance in eliminating the pattern of complaint; however, the company failed to reply."

    I am very pleased with the quality of work that was done.  The day began at 7 a.m. promptly and the RSU professional worked quickly with great effort to complete the projects right.  He was courteous and efficient and had to work in 100 degree heat that day!  So, I'm happy to give an excellent rating for this company.  I would definitely go with them again on any project in the future.
