    Pearl Construction & Design
Mark did a brilliant job, on budget and on time. The job involved gutting a 20x40 space down to the studs, moving walls, wiring, plumbing, painting, appliance installation, custom cabinet construction and installation, countertops, etc. We now have a laundry room, pantry, bathroom and eat-in kitchen done exactly the way I wanted it. I had a very definitely deadline, since I needed the kitchen completed prior to a big family reunion, and Mark made the deadline with time to spare. We have worked with Mark on several projects since this one, and we've always been completely satisfied.

Everything went great. Billy was available for any questions and clarifications about the work that needed to be done and flexible to help accommodate any changes we needed to make along the way. The entire experience was so good that after a year when we wanted to replace the front door and fix a few other things that needed to be dealt with, Billy helped us with finding the perfect door and making sure all the other items on our list were taken care of. Anytime we had questions or needed to make some minor adjustments to the work list, Billy was always available and extremely helpful making sure everything got done just how we wanted it. We still have a few things we want to do to the house in the next few years and I will be contacting Billy and A-1 as soon as were ready for those. Id happily recommend them to anyone I know whos planning work on their property.

We never got them to come to the house. At least 4 calls were made to the 'office', and we spoke twice to Billy, our 'project mgr'. We either rcvd no return contact, or promises to contact, but no contact. After 1 month and at least 6 attempts, we gave up after telling Michelle at the office about our experience,

Really well. Billy Stockwell, who was in charge, was great. He was professional and easy to work with. He supervised several different crews from project start to finish and was onsite frequently. The crews and painter were also professional and thorough despite working outside in miserable weather. Over all we are thrilled with the final product. The project went over by a couple of months, but mostly I believe that was due to unforeseen circumstances requiring changes to the original plan. My husband and I highly recommend this company.

We were really pleased to have Brad and his team to help us start to overhaul an older home purchase. Brad and his guys were on the ball with beginning the project in a timely way, getting the demo done fast, starting the project and also rolling with us as we had materials that were broken/delayed shipments. We added parts to the job as we went and the pricing was fair and reasonable. Brad worked with terrific roofers and getting an excellent tiler and plumber and he used our choice for stone install. He kept us up to date and was responsive when we had questions, he is very knowledgeable and also willing to figure carpentry challenges out as they arise (like our large inset farm sink and vintage dresser bathroom vanity). We are doing painting/finish work ourselves to keep our price down, but Brad can recommend painters for a job if you don't want to do it yourself. Overall, the multiple part job was complete sooner than we thought, we are happy, and we will use Brad and his guys again!

    Happy Home Repairs
Very pleased with this experience. Doug had good product knowledge and gave helpful feedback on project options. He listened to our ideas, let us know the costs for different approaches, and shared his opinion based on his experience. We ended up going with his recommendations, and we're glad we did. During the project, Doug communicated well about when he would be on-site and the progress along the way (we mostly used email).

    Paul Faye's Custom Carpentry
Paul did an exceptional job on all the work - he is a true craftsman, is honest, is dependable and takes pride in his work.  Paul met his commitments to us and we plan on continuing to hire him for the jobs around our 1910 North Chatt home.

Upon reaching out to Improve America, the response time was great. Mel, the president contacted us and made arrangements to come by for a quote. We obtained additional quotes from a couple other vendors as well. While the quote from Improve America was not the cheapest (or the most expensive) we went with Mel because of the positive reviews for his company.
Our project started just before Thanksgiving and began with the carpenters coming out to frame out new skeleton walls to attach to the block walls and remove the existing carpet. The carpenters were polite, on time, and did a great job. When they were putting up the wall, one of the wall outlets apparently had a loose connection and it popped a circuit breaker. While there may not have been anything wrong with the 30+ year old wall boxes, the guys replaced the outlets and outlet gang boxes without being asked or charging extra. This was a nice touch that showed they wanted to go the extra mile.
Next came the drywall guys. Mel mentioned up front that when you get to the drywall stage, expect things to slow down a bit. This set our expectations. The contractors hung the sheet rock and tape and applied the first round of mud. Then they came back for round 2 of mud, and finally came back again to sand everything down to prepare the walls for paint. This was the longest part of the project since it seems like the drywall guys bounce between jobs quote a bit while they wait for mud to dry, etc. They too did a nice job.
At that point, the carpenters came back to finish things off by attaching the trim, wainscoting and chair rail trim. The quality of work again was great. One wall attached to another wall that was still intact, trim and all. Another example where they went the extra mile was seen in the fact that when they replaced the baseboard trim, they used new trim for the entire length of the wall vs reusing the old trim that had been removed and set aside to be reattached to the intact wall. Nice!
The carpeting was handled as an allowance/estimate which seems to be the norm in these type of projects. Mel recommended a couple places that he felt offer the best prices but advised that we could go anywhere. We visited both places he recommended, made a choice, and worked out the payment details with Mel. The carpet was installed by the carpet company. They too did a good job. The carpeting guys were apparently very efficient in their laying of the carpet and had very little waste. So efficient that they were able to carpet a smaller storage room that was not on the original scope.
While it would have been easy to simply go with the cheapest quote, we firmly believe that you really do get what you pay for. In the end, we look for contractors that perform good work, go the extra mile to do things the right way, have excellent attention to detail, and perform the work at a reasonable price. Mel and his team met these expectations.

    Radiant Roofing & Exteriors
A quote was given in an timely manner.  The work was done by an individual who apparently takes pride in his work.
The work took more than one day and the carpenter did anexcellent job of cleaning up the area both at the end of the first day and when work was completed the next day.
