    Radiant Roofing & Exteriors
Radiant Roofing and Exteriors came to the house bringing samples of siding, multiple times, due to our not being able to choose a color. He showed us some houses that he had installed siding, like we wanted; this was very helpful in us making our final choice. He assisted in the selection of the new windows. He informed us of the best rating on windows for this area. He asked us to shop for our doors. His reasoning was we would be able to get the type of door we wanted without any restrictions of a budget. We didn't have to do anything but find what we wanted and order the doors; the crew picked them up at the supplier. The crew started work on Monday after the 4th of July. They were very professional and nice. I was made aware of their work schedule, before work ever started. They worked that schedule when weather permitted until all the jobs were complete. When the job was completed they left the yard clear of debris. I hated to hear this crew retired. We had used Radiant Roofing and Exteriors several years ago for a new roof. We have been very happy with our roof, and will use them for the next one. The crew removed the old roof and felt, then laid new felt and roof. The entire job, including cleaning up all their debris was done in less than one day. They used a roller magnet to collect roofing nails from the yard.

    Mountaintop Construction LLC
Our project went exceedingly well and Mountaintop Construction completed it right on time meeting our Thanksgiving holiday deadline.  We could not have been more pleased.  Barry was very easy to contact and reliably replied to both text and email.  He came by with the mason whose crew performed the work early on, before we even received his bid, to ensure the labor was priced right and to identify the brick on our existing home, now some 15 years since it was constructed.  I feel their recommendation was a very good match on the brick.  The masons showed up right on time each day and straightened up and protected the project from rain and cold each evening.  The lead mason was very experienced building fireplaces and made recommendations during the construction that we are very pleased with.  All the workers who came to our home were very courteous, respectful of our property, and friendly.
The end result is a very pleasant outdoor fireplace that integrated into our backyard and deck very well.  It reflects heat well and draws smoke up the chimney as it should.  I have no problem recommending Mountaintop Construction.

    Charity Chimney Sweeps

On 11/6/2014 I used Charity Chimney Sweeps to inspect/clean the chimney for $75. The technician that came to the house was on time, polite and very knowledgeable. After he inspected the chimney, he determined that it was not in working order so a cleaning would not be necessary. After taking pictures and measurements of the chimney, the tech said that he would email me a report with a quote so that we could proceed with making the repairs to get the chimney in working order. It is now 12/1 and I have still not received any report or quote. I called the office last week and they said that they were busy and have had time to send the quote. I called again today (12/1) and they said that the computer crashed and they are unable to send it. It looks like Charity does quality work based on the other reviews, but it is frustrating paying the $75 with nothing to show for it except excuses of my they are not sending the quote on the inspection.

    William H Fryar Inc

Consumer BEWARE ? I would NOT recommend using William H. Fryar Inc.  Billy Fryar?s lack of professionalism, failure to deliver as promised and poor quality of product delivered is the worst I have ever experienced.  I have never been so disappointed, frustrated, and lost faith in any other person as much as I have with Mr. Fryar.

My story begins in January 2014 when my home was significantly damaged by a fire.  I had a Contractor working for me at the time doing a bath and kitchen remodel.  As I already had this Contractor, I elected to continue to use him for the reconstruction of the home.  My Insurance Adjuster and Contractor?s estimates of the cost to repair the home were significantly different, in the range of >$100,000.  To help resolve this and at the recommendation of a member of the Chattanooga Remodelers Council, Billy Fryar was contracted to provide an estimate of the repair costs, using the same estimating tool as the insurance company.   During my initial meeting with Billy, he was very personable and assured me that he would act as my advocate in dealing with the insurance company and would do everything possible to reduce the amount of ?out of pocket? expense I would incur because of the estimate differences.

It took over two months to get the initial estimate, all the time, no reconstruction or work was occurring on my home and I was/am residing in temporary living conditions.

Finally in April, Billy provided an estimate and he, my Contractor and I met to discuss the details.  Billy?s estimate was close in total dollar value to what my Contractor felt the overall costs would be.  I asked Billy how much of the estimate could be questioned or disputed and his reply was ?it is solid, at most there may be $10,000 that could be discussed/disputed?.  I submitted his estimate to my Insurance Adjuster and Insurance Company.  Within two weeks, my Insurance Adjuster had gone through Billy?s estimate in detail and found numerous duplications, unexplained costs, and gross errors.  Specifics were:

Estimate includes remove and replace for most items, yet demolition is factored in the estimates for removing damaged items. (Double counting)

Demolition for $1,800, already addressed in original estimate, plus the code upgrade estimate, plus the items that are factored as ?remove / replace?

Chimney replacement for $5,400, this was not fire damaged.

Finish Carpentry - one line item entry for $37,284, no details provided and this appears to be all duplicative as the estimate itself already has trim in the items.

The Office total of $12,122.56 appears to be a duplication of items already factored in the same estimate for room Office.

The Master Bedroom total of $9,160 appears to be a duplication of items already factored in the same estimate.

The Upstairs Bath total of $5,422 appears to be a duplication of items already factored in the same estimate.

The Laundry total of $981 appears to be a duplication of items already factored in the same estimate.

The Framing and Roofing items which total $56,943 appear to be a duplication of items already factored in the same estimate.

My Contractor and I again met with Billy to discuss the input from the Insurance Adjuster.  During the meeting all Billy did was take notes and say ?hmmm, maybe he?s right, or hmmm, he has a point there?.  His original ?it is solid, at most there may be $10,000 that could be discussed/disputed? was obviously not correct as my Insurance Adjuster just disputed over $100,000 in the estimate.  Billy committed to reevaluating the estimate and getting back to me and my Contractor within a week --- this was late April.

In July, Billy did resubmit to me and my Contractor an estimate ? unfortunately he made limited changes, the estimate still contained all of the items previously disputed by my Insurance Adjuster.  It is now late August, Billy has not responded to my Contractor or me.  I have sent emails via his website and have attempted to call him ---- this is useless as he does not answer his phone and his voice mail box is always full so no message can be left.  I have basically paid Billy Fryar over $4000 for nothing but aggravation.

Again, Consumer, stay away from William H Fryar Inc unless you want an unresponsive and unprofessional contractor.  This has been the worst experience ever ? find someone in need and take advantage of them should be his company motto.

    Alford Roofing & Construction
by DecemberIt took a while to place new gaskets around the vents and we had a few rainfalls while waiting. The chimney had carpenter ants and the frame was rotted and the siding was already shot.  They took time to do the rebuilding job on the chimney but it seemed they cut some  corners in replacing the insulation back into place.  It was closed up before I could question the forman about it.    There were some rotted timbers connecting to the facia boards and a hole in the plywood roof that was covered up by the previous owner.  This was identified by the workers and we discussed time and price before repairs were made.  I was new to the area and it was unknown to me if I was charged a fair price.   But the crew had to spend an extra couple days to complete the extra work.   I understand the crew went over their budgeted time to do a good job on my home.  There were some minor follow-ups but they were fixed quickly.
The crew that was working in the Chattanooga area was let go by Alford that December 2013.  I would have had "that crew" back to do additional work on my home.  I understand that Alford no longer services the Chattanooga area.

    Sprout Roofing
Long story short: they'll do a great job on your roof. Be clear on exactly who you are working with before you hire them for anything else.
The 19-year-old guy that they sent out to do the original estimate backed into our retaining wall. So, I started off irritated with them. But my husband had seen some of their roofing work and was adamant that these were the guys to use. While I feel that the project manager who eventually worked with us was sincere and did try to make us happy, ultimately I really have a poor judgement of our interaction with Sprout because of the subcontractor that they used to do the siding work. We would not hire them again.
This was an insurance job due to hail damage. We did have a few extras added on. The price seemed okay but, in all truth, I didn't write the check for most of it. So I have given them an "A" for price.
I don't remember any issues with punctuality and the office and project manager were both good to return my phone calls. So "A" for responsiveness and punctuality.
They did a beautiful job with the roof and I can't complain at all about it. We did pay the difference for slightly upgraded shingles and it was worth the cost difference. I get compliments all of the time from both professionals and passers-by. They also did a great job on my neighbor's roof, which I have a good view of since my house sits higher than theirs. Roofing is clearly their specialty and they do it well.
The subcontractors that they used for the siding work were a mess: they left empty energy drink cans and wrappers and trash all over my yard. They did not respect my repeated requests that they not smoke on my property and left cigarette butts all over the yard. They left construction debris scattered in my yard at the end of the week just took off - I had to call and complain to have it removed as I was expecting guests. Based upon my experience with other contractors, these guys just did not care about my property. That is why I give them an "F" for professionalism.
We have been advised by another (highly rated Angie's List) professional that the seams where the siding pieces meet are not correct. They should overlap where ours are just meeting. So we are going to have some of the siding work corrected. We were having chimney work done after this job so they left the chimney cap in our basement for later placement. It didn't fit our chimney and we had to buy one that did. There seems to be some honest disagreement among thinking people as to how to correctly vent an attic. We went with Sprout's suggestion but this hasn't ultimately been the best choice for our property and it will cost us money to correct. I am giving them a "C" for quality because I have had to pay other contractors to fix these issues.

    Parham Roofing & Siding Co
Arrived promptly for estimate.  Thoroughly explained the findings and repairs needed.  The work was started immediately  and completed in a timely manner.  All of  the debris was removed and the area was clean up before their departure.  Employees were polite and courteous.

    A New View
This was an excellent experience and she did a wonderful job. They took care of the project and did not have to be micro-managed which was a huge plus for me. She is very busy which shows she has to be making a lot of people happy, so you may have to give her a little time, but it will turn out to be worth it!

    French's Chimney Restoration
I wanted to discuss the repairs with my husband. I have left a couple of messages to schedule the repairs and he has yet to return my calls. I have read on other reviews that he is hard to get a hold of, but I feel I have been patient. While waiting to schedule my repairs, I feel more damage is being done.
