    M & S Masonary
We hired Jerry Roark who owns M & S Masonary to repair it. He decided the concrete should be re-surfaced rather than replaced. He removed loose chunks, acid etched the top and applied a new surface with a hand trowel to the top of the existing concrete. He said that the material he used for resurfacing was something he custom mixed, that it contained glue and that it would outlast us. The result was a sloppy, uneven job especially at the edges. We called him and asked him to return and continue to work on it. He came back and said it was easy to remove the lumps. He just picked up a small rock out of the yard and rubbed off the lumps with just a few strokes. I asked him how anything could be durable if it rubbed off that easily, and he denied there was any problem. We asked him to come back again and discuss the problems. He said he would and then never showed up. The surface is so fragile that I can take a whisk broom and start sweeping away the new surface. See photo. I saved large chunks of the new surface material that had fallen on the ground while he worked. Once dry, I can use my fingers and easily snap them in half even on larger pieces. We have filed a complaint with TN Department of Consumer Affairs even though the total cost could have been much worse. When I dealt with him directly, I found him to be a very assertive, smooth talker who left me wondering most of the time if he was lying or telling the truth. I found it extremely hard to tell and I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. Looking back, I would say it was the former. Update as of February 2018. The concrete layer that Mr. Roark applied is starting to crack into sections and fall off, only 5 months after it was applied. See photo.

    Knight's Garage Doors
Knight's garage doors came out for a site visit and consultation/quote that came in much lower than if I bought a similar garage door from my local home improvement store, plus they removed my old one and installed the new one! At the first visit they gave me a range of options and prices to choose from, which I liked, that included helping my old door as much as they could. In the end I decided to upgrade to an insulated door with windows as my garage gets very hot and cold depending on the season. They ordered it and it came in about two weeks at a good price. DO NOT USE "Home Town Garage Doors"!!!! They sent a drunk angry young man who almost broke the glass trying to force it open, then charged me $75 they never said on the phone -for nothing! Knight's garage doors really and truly is a local family business, not a national scam company.

    Construction Asphalt Paving Services Inc
Bill came out with his daughter Lacy and gave me a complete, professional estimate.  I got two other estimates and Bill was the most competitive by far.  It was clear that he had decades of experience in addition to a sterling reputation on Angie's List.  My drive is a challenge; long with a fairly steep grade, circle at the top, areas that needed total replacement and two portions that co-join with concrete.  Bill got the job.  Within two weeks, Joey, his operations manager and six workers showed up ready to roll.  In a day and a half, they worked non-stop in withering Tennessee heat to totally repaved and replace portions of drive.  The end result is terrific.  I could not be more pleased with the work they did.  All were courteous and hard-working professionals.  If I had other asphalt work, Construction Asphalt Paving Service would be my first and only candidate for the job.

    TOMMY'S PAVING & SEALING
These people really worked hard.  They provided exactly what they said they would.  They actually finished one day early. They
paid attention to all of the details and did all of their preparation work with meticulous detail.  The final work went perfectly.

And, as you can imagine, all this took some pretty frequent communications and schedule coordination.  Kevin is very responsive, professional, considerate, and cordial.  All in all, a very good experience with him.  His guys are equally friendly and clean.  I had no worries about them being in my house and would (and have) recommended them to friends and family alike.  The only real hiccup we had was an errant drill bit while trying to fish the pull wire up into the attic.  I ended up with a hole in the corner of the ceiling in my stairwell, behind the target wall.  He responded quickly by having a contractor come out to patch the hole and paint.  He ended up having to paint the whole wall and ceiling, but he got it done to my satisfaction.  There were also a few chips in the ceiling paint where the new recessed LED lighting was installed.  Kevin also had the contractor repair those spots free of charge to me.
Overall, I was treated fairly and the work done was top notch.  Highly recommended.  Kevin has the desire and ability to do great work and his penchant for evaluating a situation from both sides to come to a fair agreement is a truly valuable asset for a professional in his field.  Most shirk responsibility when things go wrong.  He makes them right.  You can't ask for better.

    Calvin J Blevins
Hired Blevins to block up area under a deck.  He started the work and at the end of the week he demanded that we advance him some of the money or he couldn't pay his workers.  We paid him $750 to pay his men. Next week, same thing.  This time we were out of town and he parked in our yard until we returned late that night.  We paid him anoter $750., basically to get rid of him because he was drinking.  This continued until the last little bit of the work was still unfinished.  I put a chain around his cement mixer and refused to unlock it until he finished the job.  He said he HAD to do a small job up the street and he would be back to finish the job at my house.  I, FOOLISHLY, let him have the mixer and he has never been back since.   I would recommend that no one ever use this thief!

We are 100 percent happy with our purchase, and the process, from start to finish was quick and easy!  The local dealer in Piney Flats TN was polite, knowledgeable, and took the time to answer our questions.  The crew that came to set it up was professional and efficient.  The price was very good too!

    Masonry By Steve INC.
He talked a lot, and claimed he was going to save me money, but he did not even measure the patio to determine the square footage.  He claimed he can fix my problem of the patio sloping towards my house by concreting over the existing flagstone with new flagstone.  (I spoke with other contractors who gave free estimates and they all say that the concrete will probably not bond well to the old flagstone, and I may end up with a huge mess on my hands.)

Steve arrived on Friday afternoon and called me Sunday night around 10pm to tell me it was going to cost something like $6,732 to fix my patio.  I asked him to fax me the estimate detailing what he was going to do for the money, so I can look it over.  He said he would fax it, but after a reminder phone call and 2 1/2 weeks later, still no written estimate.

Therefore, I thought I would call him one last time today for the written estimate.  He answers and tells me he already gave me the estimate over the phone.  I asked him how much it was, and he says he doesn't remember.  I asked him for the third time to please fax me a copy of the estimate as promised.  He then says he can not fax it, but can email it, and then suddenly remembers the estimate being $7,887.  At that point, I told him to just forget about it and hung up the phone.  What a waste of my time and money.

    Ace Garage Doors
I moved into a new house and when it got very cold, I noticed the cold air was coming from the door area. After looking more closely, there were large gaps around the insulated garage door which explains why the garage was so cold all the time and also the room above it. I called this business from the yellowpages and they came out right away to look at the problem. Then they came back in a few days and fixed the problem. The wrong rack was used when the garage door was first installed and as a result it didn't shut close enough to the wall for the existing weatherstripping to do it's job. What a difference this has made with my heating bills.

They did an extremely good job. Removed all bad spots and deposed of the removed parts. Laid the new with two new side spots. I'm actually looking to have them seal the new driveway.
