Eugene and his crew did an awesome job with our back patio enlargement project.  He came highly recommended by Craig's Home Improvement.  We did several different mock layouts of the patio enlargement.  Our existing patio was rather small and composed mainly of brick.  The crew demolished the existing patio and added fill and forms for the bigger patio.  This entire project was done in super hot August conditions, which was not exactly the best time to pour concrete.  After completing the big pour and waiting for it to set, Eugene's crew put a textured finish on the new patio surface.  They completed the new patio and steps with a stone facade that matched our existing pool coping.  They did such an outstanding job that we decided to have our other brick step entrance demolished and reconstructed to match the new patio.  We couldn't be happier with the completed project.  Eugene managed all facets of our patio redesign perfectly.  Give him an opportunity to bid on your next concrete project and you won't be sorry.

Some tile guys I had at my house backed into a brick arch that covers a drainage pipe along the side of my driveway.  They bumped it up and backwards off its foundation and cracked two of the bricks.  The arch was intact, they just moved it from its foundation.

I found this company here on Angie's List and since they were the highest rated masonry business listed, I sent them pictures of the damage and requested an estimate to repair or replace the arch.  David was very quick to answer my email and give me a bid.  He said that the arch could not be set back in place and repaired, but had to be replaced.  I was happy that I got such a quick response, right up until I read the bid proposal.

The bid seemed to be in Nigerian dollars (160 Nigerian to 1 US dollar).  David said that to do this job would require 3 men and cost $3,000.  Yes, there is a comma in that bid...  Three thousand dollars.  Say it again.  Three thousand dollars.  I've driven many cars that cost less than his bid to build a simple brick arch that consisted of about 130 bricks.  The bricks would cost less than $150 and a couple bags of mortar mix is about $20 at Lowes.  Twenty eight hundred profit on a small brick job?

I responded to his email questioning if he had accidentally added an extra zero to his bid.  He described all the variables associated with advertising, insurance, dump fees, etc.  Since this was his real bid, we parted company.

If you want somebody to respond very quickly to a bid request and couldn't care the slightest little bit about the cost or whether you're getting a good deal, I highly recommend this company.  If you would like both service and value, look for my write up in this section for the person who ultimately REPAIRED (yes - repaired) the arch to like new condition for $200.  That's right, $200 and he was extremely responsive, professional and happy to have the work.

    Update: 9MAR13
Well, I'll follow up on their follow up to my initial report.  I did in fact ask very specifically if the entire arch could merely be mortared back into position and just replace the few cracked bricks.  I've done this work many times in the past, but didn't have time to do this job.  They're either suffering from memory loss or honesty loss claiming that I didn't ask for exactly what I ended up having done.  Like the mechanic who says you need a new engine when you only need new spark plugs, they were looking for a pay-day and thought they'd hooked a sucker.  The advantage of modern technology is I only had to spend two minutes pulling up the email I sent them.  You judge for yourself if I didn't ask them if if could simply be repaired and if the repair was "completely different" from my request to them...

I had some tile guys back into this arch over the drainage culvert running under my driveway.  They popped it off its foundation and only chipped a few bricks on the outside face.  It might be possible to move it back into position and simply re-mortar it in place, or it might take a rebuild.  I'd like an estimate to repair or replace this if you're interested in the job."

So, expensive an full of it.  Pick them if you want, but my experience says steer WAY clear.
