    For now I would recommend that you choose someone else to install a new AC unit or ductwork.

    I mentioned to the salesperson at the beginning that I wanted to apply for the TVA eScore rebates. I also mentioned it several other times after that but it took more than two months for the paperwork to get submitted.

    After more than two months I learned that I cannot apply for the escore rebate for the ductwork because they used bubblewrap instead of insulation around the ductwork and they didn't use mastic to seal the joints. I chose this contractor because they participate in the TVA escore program. I thought that I could trust that the work would be done correctly to TVA guidlelines.

    If you need any vents installed I would recommend you go with Home Depot. I told the salesperson that I wanted to reinstall the kitchen vent that was covered up when the kitchen tile was installed. He said it was "no problem" but they broke a kitchen tile during the install and refused to fix it.

    They were supposed to take 3 days to do the installation but rushed to finish in one day. I would prefer they take their time and do a good job.

    They had to come out a second time about two weeks later because there were some settings not done correctly that prevented the system from heating the house when the temperature is below freezing outside. For some reason the repairman removed the thermostat and took it outside, I guess he had to call someone to find out how to change the settings.

    It was so so. I wasn't impressed with them. They did the job and didn't do anything wrong. They just opened it up and said everything looks fine. That was it. At least pretend that you are doing some work. They came right on time.

    I was very impressed with the extensive planning the gentleman had done in locating where the vents would be located. Our house never had duct work so it took some planning. They installed 2 complete HVAC units with duct work. The installers were very professional.

    After a couple of years of problems our 25+ year old ducted, standard split A/C system finally bit the dust. The unit took acre of our peaked roof sunroom with full windows all around.  It had done a fine job but was very loud.
    I contacted three HVAC companies for estimates.  Gary at Merritt Heating and Air was the only one to fully inspect the sunroom and give me an informed, detailed estimate.  I had researched ductless, mini split systems and was interested in information on them versus a standard system.   I knew they would be quieter and probably a bit more expensive.  Gary explained the difference and recommended a ductless mini split in my application.  And it would not be too much more than a standard system.  I knew from my research that Mitsubishi was the leader in mini split systems and when Gary told me he was a Mitsubishi Diamond Dealer installer that kind of sealed the deal.  This meant my warranty would be extended with him installing the unit.  
    Gary came out just when he said he would and had the system installed in a little over half a day.  He was very professional and courteous.  The installation was neat and tidy and he cleaned up completely.  He even capped the gas line from the old A/C which was not part of the original estimate.  And by adding the surface mount mini split it freed up the closet where the old system was.
    So, far the Mitsubishi system has worked great.  I have been pleased with it's ease of use and performance.  
    From my experience I would highly recommend Merritt Heating and Air especially for the Mitsubishi ductless mini split system.

    Our 400 square foot sunroom had a 25 year old unit that finally bit the dust.  I called Advanced Heating and Air to see if they would send someone out to give me and estimate and suggestions on whether to replace the old unit with a standard split system or a mini split ductless system.  I was less than impressed with the young man that came out.  
      As I showed him the sunroom and asked for suggestions his mind seemed to be elsewhere.  I would give him information about the space and he would vaguely look around.  When recapping what I told him the information he gave back to me was not correct.  
      I asked which unit would be best and which would be least expensive:  a ducted unit like the old one since the duct work was in place or a ductless unit.  He told me the ductless unit would be best but said the only place it would go was on the front wall where there was nothing but full length windows which meant the outside unit would be sitting right outside the main wall of the sunroom blocking the view.  I knew this was incorrect from researching mini split units.  When I showed him there was access to a back wall where mini ductless hoses and wiring could be run he seemed to dismiss it.  As he prepared to leave I asked if he would send me an email estimate on both type of units:  ductless and ducted.  He said he would.
     
      That evening I received a very vague estimate for a ductless unit only.  The estimate gave hardly any information other than price and size of unit.  There was no cost breakdown, no details.  I chose not even to respond.  I don't know if the young man was new  or untrained but I was not impressed with him.  I think Advance Heating and Air may need to evaluate their training for this young man.  Needless to say I went with another company.

    We first contacted Northgate because they were the company handling the warranty work on our A/C unit. Dealing with them has always been a very pleasant experience for our family. We have a medically fragile disabled child in the house and they have gone above and beyond for us, getting out asap when there has been a problem. Even after the warranty expired they still are just as courteous and prompt and helpful.

    Mr. Jenkins came at the scheduled time to look at my existing HVAC system and provide an rstimate. After collecting 4 estimates, I contacted him and arranged for an installation date. He and his assistant arrived prompty at 8:00AM on the installation date and completed the project in two days. Installation included a new gas furnace, outside heat pump, programmable thermostat, PVC venting for the furnace, and a steam humidifier. Upon completion Mr. Jenkins went over the operating instructions for the furnace, heat pump and thermostat and the warranty with me. He and his assistant cleaned up the garage and outside area before departing, and hauled off the old furnace and air conditioning components.

    I originally spoke to Rex from Chaffee in September about replacing the unit and the quote was still the same a month and a half later. They were on time for the quote but a few minutes (10) late for the installation. They were able to do the install within 3 days of when I gave the go ahead. They worked at a good pace and cleaned up the general area. It took an hour or two to get the blower motor problem solved but it was resolved. The little things seemed to add up to make this a good choice. For example: 1. Some nails were sticking out of the trim by the blower, they pulled them out to make sure my little girl would not get caught on them. 2. Gave me some good advice about filters for the units. 3. Gave me good advice about the new system they were installing regarding sizing and function. 4. Did the blower motor repair for the cost of parts only. The unit works as expected and the installation went without a hitch.
