Siding reviews in Sioux Falls

  • Everything went well with the services provided by American Exteriors. They definitely did a quality job. We appreciated that they were talking with us, to see if the job happened, whatever needed to be done. They followed up multiple times making sure that everything was done correctly. We were satisfied. For the price, we didn't shop around, I don't know how they are in comparison to other places. They certainly seemed reasonable but I have no idea what other places charge. I absolutely will use this provider again in the future.

  • Their service was excellent. They got here when they said they would. The job was completed on time. They did some extra services that were unexpected. When they did the siding, they did some repairs underneath that weren't in the contract. Their clean-up also was good.

  • We ran into some real difficulty in finding gutters and downspouts that matched the color of our new siding.  CRC was the only place that had an almost perfect match!  They dropped off color samples to the house for us and measured for a quote.  Once we decided they were the place we were going with, we ordered what we needed.  From that point, it did take a little time (approximately 3 weeks) before they were installed.  We didn't have a whole lot of communication letting us know how long it would take or what day they would be installed.  However, they showed up one day, did the work and they look absolutely perfect!  They did very nice work and I am very happy with the product.
My only suggestion would be to have more communcation with the customers so they know what to expect from a timing perspective and installation date.

  • I have a split-level home. The area of siding facing east above my garage had been improperly installed by the siding company. Not necessarily their fault as I found out later that the manufacturer had provided the wrong specs to the installer. The installation had not allowed a large enough gap at the bottom of the siding where it meets the roof of the garage to allow water to drain away. As a result, the bottom boards were rotting and peeling. Additionally, the frame at the bottom of my patio door had suffered some water damage and, with support lost, the door was sagging in its track and not sealing properly, which allowed in a sizable draft.
I checked Angie's list and got the names of the top three contractors for these types of jobs. J.Wahl was not among them but only because no one had done a review of him yet. I called the top three. Number one was booked solid and couldn't come out for an estimate. Two and Three came out, couldn't identify the source of the problem, but gave estimates in the thousands of dollars and their fixes included complete replacement of all of the siding and a new patio door and frame. The thinking, I guess, was that proper installation of siding and a new patio door would automatically resolve the sources of the issues. My saving grace was I had asked Number One for their recommendations for contractors and Jamie Wahl's name was mentioned. To be fair, they had also mentioned Two and Three from Angie's list, so I'm sure they are reputable and competent contractors, but they under-performed on the estimate.
Jamie was my fourth call. He came out and spotted the source of the problems right away, which led to a much simpler repair diagnostic. He was between larger projects and said he could start right away. He came when he said he would. The work was all performed in one day with minimal expenses for materials as he was able to save most of what was already there and just fix the problem areas and the surrounding damage. His cost was more than fair. He was polite, professional and he cleaned up all the mess from his repairs. My only regret is that it has taken me this long to get around to writing a positive review for him on this site. All of his work has held up and I would not hesitate to recommend him to others or use his services again.

  • They did a complete job in two days - very popular contractor; business is spread by word-of-mouth. They did not leave our house exposed to the elements and made sure the weather was right before starting. They were very good about cleaning up without being asked. We plan to use them for other work on another property and again at our house down stream. We were very pleased and were happy they did as good of a job as our friends said they would.

  • I assisted Curt in performing the work.  We established a daily start time and he was always on time.  I found Curt to be a hard worker but easy going.  He maintained a positive outlook even when problems and challenges arose.  I was impressed with his knowledge of the contracting business and building code requirements.  He estimated the completion date at three weeks which would have been met if not for several days of bad weather.  The finished product met my expectations and he was a great guy to work with every day.  It was a pleasant experience throughout.

  • Took awhile for him to start the job. Once started, they ran the floor boards the east and west instead off north and south as we discussed with him for ductwork. Once he did this he said it was to late to correct that. We didn't know any better, so we moved on. This made it so that the plumbers could not run ductwork for the central air and heat to the new addition. That caused an air conditioning and heating problem. They talked us into a motel combo air and heat wall unit that leaked air and was very loud. Later we had an air conditioning and heating heat pump system put in by another company which cost us more money ($3000.00) and we had to sell the other wall unit and remove it ourselves. He patched the hole where the old motel combo air heater was. The first winter the wall corners all frosted up and were not insulated properly. The next summer the roof started to leak in the new addition upper bathroom and where the addition was attached to the garage. He said there was an ice jam and took a shovel to the roof and ruined all the shingles we found when spring came. He fixed the damaged sheetrock with no taping or regard for mold. Frustrated we hired a roofing company. They indicated that the roof was not attached to the garage correctly and the design was flaud. They had to redo 3/4 of the roof on the addition costing us $4000.00. We now have a mold problem where the roof leaked and hired a different company to replace the moldy sheetrock, mud and texture. We also found that moister resistant sheetrock was not used in the two new bath rooms. One in the basement and one on the main floor of the addition. This is costing us about another $1000.00. This has been a nightmare from start to finish. Nice guy, but he doesn't know what he is doing and doesn't seem to care about cutting corners. DO NOT HIRE HIM FOR ANY REPAIRS, YOU WILL REGRET IT and it will cost you more money to have it fixed right! There is more but you get the picture. I might be off on the timeline because there was so much going on, but I did my best to tell things in the right order.
