5 Tips to Get the Best Tree Service

Tree Service reviews in Rapid City

Frank's Tree Service came highly recommended. Paul was very responsive. Within a day, he completed an inspection of some trees on my property that had suffered serious storm damage in the past, and he provided a quote and a timeframe for completing the work. The final bill was more than fair (less than quoted), and he completed the job much sooner than projected. All in all, the crew did a fantastic job. After clean-up, it was noticeable that they also left the property in much better condition than they found it. Frank's Tree Service exceeded my already high expectations, based on the recommendation I had received.

I contacted this company in Sept 2013 regarding major tree damage after a record snow storm. I did not hear back from them so I called backed approx two months later to get a update. They indicated they would highlight my previous request. It is now Feb 2014 and I still have not heard back. I understand that they are probably very busy given the damages to trees during the snow storm; however, I find it absolutely unprofessional that they have not even bothered to keep me updated relative to when or if they would address my tree damage.

Went great. Gabe and his crew arrived punctually when they said they would, did exactly the job we requested quickly, efficiently, and carefully, and charged a competitive price for the work. Gabe was very helpful in discussing our trees' health and making recommendations, and even showed me how to do some trimming myself on one of our smaller trees.

We contacted and got quotes from several other tree service providers before we contacted Gabriel. Others were either outrageously expensive or unresponsive and unconcerned. When we originally found A Cut Above on Angie's List, we talked to Gabriel on the phone, and he sent a helper to take a look at our tree before we could discuss the removal. Unfortunately, the helper was not a skilled arborist, and he gave us a ridiculously low quote for the job. After that, Gabriel was supposed to call us to schedule an appointment to perform the job, but we never received the call and had to call him ourselves. In a way, we don't blame him - he must have been ashamed to have to give us another quote, almost three times as high as the one his helper originally gave us.
Once we did connect with Gabriel, he was very prompt coming out to take a look at the tree himself, and he provided professional assurances and a quote that was more in line with the scope of the job that needed to be performed. Unfortunately, due to unfavorable weather conditions, we could not have the service done when it was originally scheduled to be performed, but once Gabriel and his crew came out, they did a great job. True, they were more than an hour late coming in, but Gabriel was very apologetic, and the crew got straight to work once they were on our property.
The tree in question, in addition to being extremely large, was also located in a very inconvenient spot, very close to both our house and the next door neighbor's house. To ensure that neither house got damaged by falling branches, Gabriel climbed the tree and started removing pieces from the top down. After the whole day's worth of work, the result was outstanding: the tree was completely removed leaving only a stump in the ground, and no structures received even the slightest damage. Due to the fact that daylight was running out, the site cleanup was not complete (only larger pieces of wood were removed from the yard, but a lot of small branches and sawdust were left), but that does not in any way diminish the fact that Gabriel and the crew performed an excellent job removing a large, hazardous tree. We would definitely recommend A Cut Above if we or any of our friends need large tree removal in the future.

We contacted Johnson's Tree Service on recommendation from our landscaper to help us remove a hazardous tree from our yard. It took more than two weeks and numerous phone calls back and forth for the company representative to just come out and take a look at the tree that needs to be removed. With full understanding that we contacted the company during their busy season, we felt that our request for service was not handled professionally.
First, the office staff did not schedule an appointment for a company rep to come out to our property. Instead, she told us someone would come out and look at the tree and quot;as soon as they could.and quot; After a week with nobody showing up, we called the office again, only to be told much the same. After the third call (a week later), we were told somebody did come out to look at the tree, but did not find any hazardous trees at our address. As there is someone at our home during the day most days of the week and we did not see anybody come to our door or to our yard, we thought this was just another poor excuse on the company's part.
When the company owner finally showed up personally and looked at the tree, he promised to go back to the office and call with the estimate and date when the work could be completed. Instead, he called back later that same day only to say that the company would not be able to schedule us in until spring.
Needless to say, with winter (with snow and winds) approaching and a damaged tree in close proximity to both our house and the next door neighbor's house, this is a completely unacceptable timeframe. In addition, the owner of the company and the office staff should have known what their schedule looked like when we first contacted them, and shouldn't have strung us along for two whole weeks before telling us they could not do the job. This makes for very poor business practices and extremely poor communication. We surely wouldn't be recommending Johnson's to anybody else who needs help with hazardous tree removal.

Excellent responding to needs and follow up.
Went above and beyond to save our trees. They were a mess
and thought they might not be able to be saved.
Gabe was awesome and very knowledgable.

I called Hagel's to inquire about removing a large, tall, and dead pine tree from my front yard that sat right next to my house.  He immediately sent over a representative to anaylze the situation and consult with me on what they would do and the cost.  Hagel's representative was very professional and courtious.
Before contacting Hagel's tree service for an estimate, I contacted 2 other contractors for estimates. There was no doubt that Hagel's gave you more for your buck and had the lowest price for the job that needed done.  I hired them for the job.
I found the 6 men who came to my house to remove this tree to be very professional in every way.  They called ahead, were prompt (arrived right on time), the work was performed in a timely way, and the area complely cleaned of all debris from the tree that was removed
I would without a doubt hire this company  again for future work and highly recommend to anyone who needs a tree (or trees) removed to not even bother checking around.  You'd just be wasting your time. Hagel's Tree Service and Property Care, LLC  is the one to hire to get the job done professionally and at the right price..

They did a good job. I have used them for years; I don't know how I first heard of them. It was a huge tree and they had to get up there with a boom. In terms of punctuality, they are very busy so it takes a while to get on their schedule.

Over the weekend, the wind blew down one of our huge cottonwood trees, and in doing so, left another huge tree leaning into yet another tree, uprooted at a 45% angle.  We called on Monday, and Ron came out promptly Wednesday morning to give us an estimate.  Although he had other work to estimate and complete, when he saw our tree leaning dangerously into another tree (and hovering over a nearby shed), he talked to his other customer, and with his blessing, came back in a couple of hours to help us out.  He and his employee were able to safely bring down the leaning tree, without damaging the nearby shed, or the basketball hoop pole that was almost directly under the leaning tree.  They cleaned up, chipped and removed all the smaller branches, and at our request, cut the large wood into manageable chunks/stumps for later removal.  They were professional, kind, thorough and prompt.  What more could you ask for?  I would call them again in a heartbeat!

There’s nothing that stands out about them.  They’re very good and we’ve used them before.  We’re satisfied with the services that they provided.  So when we needed some other things done, we called them again since we’ve had prior experience with them.  We really don’t have anything to compare their prices with.  We will use them again in the future if we need to.
