    Rheumatology Associates PA
As a patient of rheumatology for almost 2 decades now and a patient advocate to boot, I feel I have an excellent perspective and know how to prepare for new patient appointments. I came with copies of blood work, x-rays on discs, and print outs of readings from the x-rays. I also came with the goal I have been working of to get off prednisone and tramadol which I have been guided through from my rheumatologist at the Cleveland Clinice and my doctor in TN who worked together to help me through that for years. Dr. Pappa did not bother to look at the paper work I brought, and when I told her I needed to get off those meds, she told me to just quit. Any dufus knows you don't "just quit" especially at the levels I have been for a decade. I also told her I had tried Benlysta for lupus (my primary diagnosis) but it was only available intravenously at the time and I couldn't handle that and it was now available in a pill and perhaps now I was a candidate. She told me she does not prescribe medication because all it does is cause more side effects and to just use Salonpas for any issues I have. Again, any doctor with any education knows medications for autoimmune diseases are to slow the progression of damage and extend the life of the person and of course ANY medication has side effects. The damage done to my body by prednisone has been atrocious and I can not function without SOMETHING (I am a severe case) and had she looked a bit further she would have known it. I also came in with a knee issue that had been diagnosed as bursitis by two doctors. She told me it wasn't bursitis; that bursitis wasn't located in that area; it was impossible. Ordered an MRI. When I said I wanted a Stand Up MRI the girl in the office refused to get the pre-authorization unless I went to Roper St. Francis. She said she's never heard of that and if I didn't do it with Roper I would have to figure it out on my own. Never experienced that before either. I happened to have an appt with my PCP a few days later and told him what happened. He looked at my knee, moved it around, poked at it, and said, nope, it is bursitis, don't bother with the MRI. So 3 doctors determined it was bursits. It went away a week or so later. My daughter accompanies me to all my appointments, and she got very frustrated with Dr. Pappa because I had to repeat myself often. There is a language barrier issue; she did not understand what I was saying often and my daughter spoke up for me several times as I was almost in tears. (and my daughter is special needs, by the way, and SHE got it.) Then I also made it clear that I had full cover insurance and was not willing to take any blood tests not covered by my insurance. I had a two inch thick package of blood tests I have already had so I couldn't imagine anything I haven't already had, but agreed to updated tests-current things like sugar, inflammation-that kind of thing. Repeated this again to the lab tech, who said everything was standard. Of course, this was not true, as I ended up getting a bill because one of the blood tests was not covered and even on appeal was ruled out of the ordinary and was not paid for by UHC. In 33 years with UHC I have never had a blood test denied. I will say the staff and the nurses (other than the MRI scheduler) were absolutely amazingly polite & professional. The poor nurse who checked me in and took down all my new patient information was thrown out of the room by Dr. Pappa-she came in and the nurse told her she wasn't finished and Dr. Pappa said "that's ok-I looked at her file" and the nurse said "I have more questions to ask her to update" and Dr. Pappa said "you are finished, it's ok" and I thought the girl was going to cry. This was overall a horrible experience, and it is really sad because I know other people who have gone to Dr. Nussbaum and Dr. Roane and absolutely LOVE them. And as I said, the staff seemed amazing. When I communicated my experience to my team of doctors involved in my care for years, and also with my experience as an advocate, I was told "run, don't walk". I will say, even though she said she doesn't write prescriptions, she did send in a script for Voltaren for my "not" bursitis. Go figure. This is my opinion of my visit with this physician and I would not recommend her. Others may have a different point of view.

    Castellone, Dr. David L.
I was a patient at Trident hospital after an emergency room visit for chest pain. I underwent a cardiac cath. On day two of my stay Dr Castellone stood in the doorway and said "Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I knew you were here." That was it! When I was discharged I was told to follow up with the cardiologist and Dr Castellone. I went in for my appointment with Dr Castellone accompanied by my husband. He came into the room and listened to my heart and said "You sure sound a lot better than you did in the hospital." He never listened to my heart when I was in the hospital..unless he has super powers and could hear it from the doorway. I honestly didn't care because I knew I receiving the care I needed from the cardiologist. I did care however when I received a bill for almost $200 for the "care:" I received in the hospital.

    Dennis, Dr. William A.
I used him last month for an annual check up. The staff is very nice and friendly. It's a small practice so they know my name and everything. The waiting room is fine and you can wait ten minutes the longest. I have been seeing them for three years now. I will use him again in the future.

I love her.  She is just very knowledgeable.  She is very caring.  She wants to make sure that she is getting to the roots of the problem and if she has to refer you somewhere else, she does that.  I just think that she is really a good doctor.

    Ewens, Dr. Joseph D.
I have never waited more than a few minutes to be seen.  Dr. Joe takes time to listen to you and discusses any concerns in detail.  I like him as a physician and as a person.  He is thorough and effective in diagnosis and treatment.  What else could you ask for?

    Palmetto Primary Care Phys
I was assigned to a nurse practitioner , without consultation, despite the fact that I had made my initial appointment with an MD. I was unhappy with the quality of care I received from her (and I am myself a health care professional.)I found the front office staff unhelpful (refused to send request for my medical records out, for example). They were also really bad about returning phone calls eg made me wait all day for biopsy results. While I had no problem with the GPs professionalism or clinical skills, I found the rest of the practice unprofessional, sloppy and unwelcoming. I have since found another GP, and am delighted to be cared for by a well run practice.

    Palmetto Primary Care Phys
They have been not just been thorough and personal. They just never felt that they were taking time with you. You rarely waited forever and then when you go back there it was short and sweet. Everybody told me something different in that office, it's like you see four or five people and you will hear something different by every single person. I quit using them and we actually will start to call someone else now which also got his information from Angie's List. It was always clean and nicely touched but it was very impersonal. The last time we went the doctor is on vacation. So we were seen by a different doctor. They kept telling me that my son's shots were not up to date. I gave them the records of his shots from our previous doctor and my previous doctor said that it was up to date and that you cannot give him shots before the surgery or he could have a bad reaction. My son will have a surgery and he needs the check up before the surgery. But then the doctors at the Palmetto were insisting that they will not proceed with the surgery unless they gave him more shots.

    Deberry, Dr. Nicole
She is very likeable and the staff always works me in. She always listens to what I say, evaluates my comments, and either confirms or offers other alternatives. She has been my primary care doctor for approximately 10 years, and I have always liked her and appreciated her staff.

    Ewens, Dr. Joseph D.
The lady at the counter must have been having a bad day, as she was short and would not look me in the eye or smile even though I tried to engage her in conversation. Dr. Ewens and the nurse he had working with him were absolutely amazing through the entire visit. Both explained each step and the reasons for each test and were very approachable and easy to talk to. Highly recommend!
