    I had a vitrectomy with membrane peel performed by Dr. Lowrey King.  Staff was professional and efficient.  Surgery was successful.  I am happy to highly recommend this doctor and hospital.  (GAO)

    Palmetto Eye Specialist
    The symptoms, operation , pre-op and post-op were explained to me in detail. The RN showed me a large chart of what the operation entailed and explained that it would actually take only 7 minutes for the operation. The prep time would take about an hour.
    My surgery on the left eye went well. I am scheduled pin June for the right eye.
    Everyone that I encountered, from the doctor's office to the admitting staff and the team of nurses were very friendly, professional, and prompt.

    Dr. King is patient, kind and extremely knowledgeable. He has been treating me for over two years for complications from a botched cataract surgery as well other retina problems and he literally saved my sight. I am forever grateful to him. I've seen him in his Hardeeville and Charleston Offices. My surgery was performed at St. Francis Roper Hospital in Charleston. Also, his staff is very professional and makes you feel welcome in the office. I highly recommend Dr. King and I can guarantee you won't find a better retina specialist. (GAO)

    Dr Farr was non communicative and arrogant.
    Glasses were way over priced-$685 for bifocals with tint.
    Dr Farr said come back in few months-you have an issue to double check one eye-I never understood him as he dashed away. Since Palmetto opened a new office close by I preferred appts there; however they are all the same Dr's.I went for another apt with another Dr , waited in the Waiting room for 50 minutes, went to front desk and they had no idea who I had to see-They complained that the new computer system was part of the problem in their new Okatie office.I said good bye at that point.
    Quality of glasses is not as good as the Internet purchased glasses with same prescription for $100.
    Even though it was his new office and things were heltersketer at the new Okatie Office there is no excuse for my experience-which they never apologized for scewing up the second appointment.

    Haven't had surgery yet. I have been torn between getting the mono lens, which my insurance covers, or the special lens which cost 5,000.00 on top of the surgery costs...which Medicare covers.....I know they push the better lens, and make us feel that that choice is and quot;individualand quot;, but honestly, who wouldn't want PERFECT vision.....even tho with the special, 2500.00 lens per eye, there is no guarantee.....I would like to hear from people who have had the mono it really that BAD? Do u mind wearing glasses when u read? I want the better lens, but don't have the money....I'm torn to not have surgery until I cant get the special lens, but my eye sight is getting worse and I should go ahead and have it in the next few months......just don't know if the extra money is going to be worth it.....

    Dr. Hinson is part of the Georgia Eye Institute in Savannah, Ga. She referred me to him because she does not perform that service. Dr. Degenhart from the Georgia Eye Institute performed the cataract surgery on both my eyes and I was so pleased with his skills, bedside manners and his care and concern for his patients. He performed the surgery in their outpatient surgery unit and I returned to see Dr. Hinson here in Okatie the next day. She performed a couple of follow up visits that were included in the cost of my surgery. She told me to call her anytime night or day if I had any of the problems on a list given to me.. She was extremely concerned, caring and wanted to make sure I did not have any problems.. She is a delightful, professional and personable physician and made me feel totally comfortable with the care provided to me.

    Switak, Dr. Jennifer R.
    The doctor I saw was Dr. Michele Mackenzie instead of Dr. Switak because Dr. Switak was on maternity leave. The first issue is they never told me that!

    I liked the office staff- very friendly and it's full service if you want to purchase eye glasses or contacts from them...very convenient. The doctor will not see me again. She was new, maybe just out of school and very perfunctory like following her text book. It was more than no bedside manner.

    She performed eye examination and told me I had early signs of a cataract. When I questioned this she said cateracts are rated on a scale of 1-5 and this was a .1! Why even tell me this??

    Also, she said my left eye deteriorated but she reduced the strength in my right eye in addition to increasing the left. I don't; like the prescription as I don't see as clear and I am going elsewhere.

    I had been told last year that.I had the beginning of cataracts by a doctor in NJ. We have since moved South. I checked Angie's List down here where we moved in October 2012 and found the best ratings for Dr. Boland. I had LASIK surgery 10 years ago and used to be severely myopic (legally blind). I wanted to make sure that I had a respected opthamologist. It turned out that my eyes were in great shape and I did not have any sign of cataracts beginning. I recommended Dr. Boland to my husband who has macular degeneration in his family. He went to have his eyes checked and found out he had glaucoma. The doctor treated him, gave him glaucoma surgery within two weeks, and he kept in contact with my husband to make sure there was no immediate change requiring surgery earlier than he set up. Dr. Boland is very personable, and gives me the feeling that I have access to his time while I am there. He is patient, thorough and answered all my questions.

    The surgery went very well. All staff performed at the highest level of competency. Our only complaint was the need for cleaner floors. There was debris on the floor in the waiting room. Additionally, there was pieces of tubing and papers on the floor in the recovery area. There was also dust bunnies on the counter when we originally checked in.

    At 11 AM, I phoned to set up an appointment and was happy to find out that there was one appointment at 3:15. I agreed. When I got to the office, I was greeted cordially, and all of my information was already in the computer (I see an Opthalmologist in the same practice.) I was sent to the waiting room where I barely had time to select a magazine to read before I called to an exam room where an assistant checked my sight, and glasses. I was then taken to another exam room where I waited about 10 minutes for the doctor. The exam was professionally done, and I was out the door in fewer than 30 minutes.
    I elected to purchase my glasses there, and did so without problems.
