    Atlantis Urgent Care
About a month ago, my daughter Carol was seen by Dr. Bell at Atlantis for a severe sinus infection. As she had been on repeated antibiotics with no relief, she asked for a culture, which Dr. Bell reluctantly agreed to do.
About 4 days later, Atlantis phoned her to ask her to come in as the culture showed a "very serious infection." She saw Dr. Dimberg, the head of Atlantis, who is a very good, competent doctor she had seen before there, as did her future mother-in-law.
Dr. Dimberg told her it was a "pseudomonas infection" - which is reflected on her discharge papers. He told her to follow up with an ENT and switched her to the appropriate "big gun" antibiotics. He implored her to make sure her fiance also obtained a culture as he had been sick and this infection is very serious. It is a resistant bacteria which is deadly in certain cases (i.e., if systemic, found in the blood or other vital organs). Her fiance, Steve, had been out of town on business in Maryland, but did visit an urgent care place there. Though, they would not do a culture, they prescribed the same antibiotic she was on, Levaquin.
Carol followed up with the ENT, as advised, and was given a longer course of antibiotics and had a repeat culture, which shows another infection, MRSA. Therefore, when Steve came back to town this past Friday, Carol called and explained the situation to the front desk staff (who are very nice), and asked if he could obtain the culture there, as Dr. Dimberg had advised. They said yes, and called several hours later when they weren't so busy.
When Steve went in, there was some confusion when the medical assistant/tech took his history, so Steve had Carol explain the situation to the tech over the phone. He seemed to understand and thanked her.
However, when the doctor came in (not Dimberg) and Steve told him about the pseudomonas infection and that his fiance advised he come in for the culture, he flat out told Steve in a condescending, scathing manner: " You don't have pseudomonas. You would be in the ER and not able to walk if you had pseudomonas"!! I assure you that Carol had been able to walk and drive over to Atlantis, whereupon the head doctor at their facility DIAGNOSED her with this infection. Why didn't this guy just LOOK at her records and the discharge papers which state clearly, and in all caps, that the culture showed a " PSEUDOMONAS INFECTION"?
He then rudely insinuated Steve was "whipped" by asking him, " Do you do everything your fiance tells you to do? Would you jump in a lake if she told you to"?? Though they reluctantly took the culture, he shook hands with Steve and said in mock sympathy, "I'm very sorry you had to come in for this." Steve was very embarrassed and humiliated. On hindsight, Carol realized she should have sent him with her discharge papers from their own facility showing the diagnosis, but she never dreamed they were too inept to look up her records.
Carol had been there several times before this incident over the past year or so, which included accompanying me there when I was sick, and her future mother-in-law when she broke her pelvis, and always found Dr. Dimberg to be highly competent and professional. She had recommended him to me and others of her family and friends, none of us will be going back there after this.
I'd advise everyone to stay away. I've never heard of such unprofessional treatment. The doctor who saw Steve this past Friday should be fired.
