Counseling & Mental Health reviews in North Augusta

    Pilcher, Dr. Grace A.
    Pros -
Dr. Pilcher has the shortest waiting list for new neurology patients in the area...most neurologists are scheduling more than two months out for new patients, while Dr. Pilcher's office can get a new patient seen in just a couple of weeks.
Appointment and quot;check-inand quot; and confirmation are handled online, which is very convenient.
    Cons -
Waiting room times are interminable...and the waiting room itself is decorated with a multitude of strong patterns, which is absolute torture for a vestibular patient! and very disorienting.
Staff does not seem to be and quot;on top of thingsand quot;. I was seen multiple times by Dr Pilcher for my injury, and at each and every appointment, the staff wanted to know where I had my bloodwork done. Even though I gave them the information at each visit, they never seemed to get around to actually contacting the lab for the bloodwork results.
Similarly, the referral process was a nightmare! Dr Pilcher originally recommended a therapist for me who was out of network. Then she criticized me for not following up with that therapist and getting an appointment. When I asked for a therapist who was IN network, neither the doctor or the staff could locate an appropriate provider.
When I called the office to ask specifically what kind of therapy I was supposed to get (maybe I could find a provider myself!), the staffer told me should would and quot;Google itand quot; and get back to me!!!
Finally, I was given the name of an and quot;in-networkand quot; therapist by the staffer who assured me that Dr Pilcher has personally spoken to the provider and determined that he was the correct person for me to see. Well, that provider's and quot;therapyand quot; actually exacerbated symptoms and made things worse!
Naturally, at my next visit with Dr Pilcher, I wanted to discuss this therapy with her - and she denied ever speaking with the therapist or having any knowledge of his practice! She went on to explain that she makes referrals and recommendations based upon what other doctors list on their websites. It is up to the patient to determine whether that doctor is a good doctor and whether the recommended treatment is appropriate.
In my opinion - a patient should be able to trust that a doctor, especially a specialist, is making decisions and recommendations based upon what is in the patient's best interest. I was bothered by the fact that brain-injury patients were expected to research and have so much responsibility for their own care. Other reviewers on Angie's List have good things to say about Dr Pilcher and I am glad that they had a good experience. Personally, if I had it to do over again, I would have put myself on the waiting list for one of those other neurologists.
