    Atlantic Resurfacing LLC
Fine. Worker, as was the owner were very polite, respoive. The work was done quickly and quietly. Left us enough material to finish the staircase ourselves. Picked a light color which gave the porch a cleaner and larger appearance. We would use them again if need arose.

    Apex Contractors LLC
Apex Contractors did an outstanding job on our new home. The interior was completely redesigned. The exterior was updated with a large front porch. We also added a 1/2 bath, master bath, and master bedroom. Paul and crew were always professional. Apex worked very hard to keep this project within our time frame and budget. We would recommend Apex to anyone looking to update their home! Pictures coming soon

Bobby was very friendly, knew his business and the his crew was very professional, clean and neat, etc.  They did all the carpentry work for Mevers and the work was exceptional.  Actually put in all the windows, did the new siding for the back porch, replaced rotted out wood, etc.  Additionally revamped the attic over the garage for much needed storage space.  A real winner!

    First John llc Remodeling/Repairs
John continues to provide excellent service. The quality of work is outstanding, John's attention to the details is admirable. The project started in January 2015, and continues today. There were three phases to the project: construct new addition for a formal dining room and perform a complete remodel of the kitchen in Phase 1. Phase 2 included the complete remodel of the master bath and walk-in closet, and complete remodel of bath 2. Phase 3 consisted of the replacement of all existing windows not addressed in Phases 1 and 2.  All work was conducted in my absence as I currently reside out of state, and was only able to visit the project intermittently. John constantly provided progress updates, and kept me informed at all times of any changes to the work necessitated as a result of unforeseen circumstances. Surprises were minimal although somewhat expected in a renovation job, and all changes were negotiated in a fair and reasonable manner. As  a professional construction manager for over 30 years, I have extensive experience in all types of construction, mostly large to extremely large commercial projects, so I know a thing or two about the business. John and I quickly developed a working relationship which has served us both well. He quickly realized that I know of what I speak, and I quickly realized I could count on him to perform to the highest standards, and deliver an outstanding product for a fair price. In addition to his eye for detail, he also possesses a keen sense of design, and I frequently relied on him and respected his suggestions on how to improve my design without sacrificing functionality. It continues to be a pleasure to have John working for me, and I would highly recommend him for all your remodeling projects.

    St. John's Building Consultants
Communication was atrocious.  David Waldrop and Gene Girouard were dependable for filling me in.  What was estimated to be a 4-6 day job was spread out over a month (weather was a factor, but not for a month).  Clean up was done but not thorough.  The quality of work (Gene and Brandon) seems good so far.  Thanks to Gene telling me as he left, I now know the reason my porch floor boards were rotting was because my roof needs a metal valley shield.  That's monumental information that should not have been simply mentioned in parting.
During the long, drawn out projects, I got excuses like, "wrong lumber", "short staffed", "wrong paint color", "he's new".
I respect Gene Girouard from this company but I do not recommend St. John's Building Consultants.

    akers construction and design
9412This was a challenging project with extensive termite damage.  Royce rebuilt the entire floor system of the house, and managed replacement of the roof & HVAC system, Project included installation of a new kitchen and bath along with painting, flooring, etc.  The project was delivered on schedule and on budget.  We will definitely use Royce Akers and his crew again ASAP.

Scott showed up for the estimate and I accepted, we set a date to start. He came and started the work. It took 4 days to complete. His work was excellent with attention to detail. Cleaned up before he left everyday. I was very satisfied. Booking him for more work.

The construction was shoddy at best. They used moldy boards, had walls that didn't meet up to the floor (due to crummy framing), they nailed through a drain pipe and rather than properly correcting it they eliminated the drain (sawed off the pipe and put a mound of concrete over it). The majority of the headers were cut totally wrong which defeats the purpose of a header. We tried for months to get them to correct the problems. They did actually correct a few minor things (like missing nail guards and some missing hurricane straps) but the major things (like crooked walls and missing fire caulking) weren't fixed. The house was poorly constructed and rather than re-framing it and fixing it properly they did partial fixes such as partially shimming a header etc. Finally when we realized that they weren't going to properly fix the main issues we had a mutual release of contract with them. They went on to insulate and drywall without fixing the problems and raised the price of the house several thousand dollars. What we experienced was unethical and we will not do business with them and we can't in good conscious recommend them to anyone. Thank goodness for services like Angie's List so people know the truth about businesses like this. In fairness we will say that we looked at several Ryland neighborhoods and not all of the houses were poorly constructed. I think it boils down to the site manager making certain that the framers, plumbers, etc., are doing their job properly so that they are producing a quality home. Regardless, the fact that we went all the way up to the vice president of the construction division in this region and the problems still weren't resolved says a lot.

    RH Builders
Russell built the house as promised, and it was everything we wanted it to be.
That's the good news. The bad news is it was over budget, several things we picked out weren't done correctly and had to be re-done. When we finally tried to close on the house and take possession there were several leans on the house from different sub-contractors that had not been paid. Even though we had already paid Russell the money.
It became clear that Russell had used our funds to cover himself for being over-extended and over-leveraged on other projects.
Bottom-Line: We have the exact house we wanted, over-budget, over-deadline from a builder who does good work, but we no longer trust.
If you use this builder, enter an agreement at your own risk and have protections in your agreement.

As of now with the gym finally being completed on October 17th I have been unable to get Glen to settle up with the subcontractors he did not pay.  For eight weeks he would not return anyone's calls and failed to meet me three times that he himself scheduled.  He claimed he was out of cell phone range and was working a lot of hours.  I started receiving letters from vendors who told me that they were never paid and were going to pursue further action. When I finally met with him on the 9th of December he handed me another invoice for the "change of work" that totaled an additional $17000, this included some vendors and subs work I had already paid off since he let go for so long.  A one room build out went from $16000 to $32000 and he said he did the work and that was that.  When I asked him for itemized receipts he had a manila envelope which he dumped on the table and said he had not had time to go over them.  He did not even know that we had given him over $16000 he wasn't sure what we paid him.  When I showed him all the cashed checks from the bank he said " oh yeah I was missing that one ".  Luckily through the process of the buildout I got know each of the subs personally and they have been working with me to let me get this cleared up.  To this day I have no paperwork to support any of this as he has still not produced it.  I THINK I have all the owed money paid but cant be certain for sure.  Needless to say I will be pursuing legal action.
