    Express Sunrooms
They build a 15 by 15 deck. It seemed very solid when they built it - took 4 times for it to pass the city inspection over a 90 day period. Also had them replace old windows in a sun room with screens. They removed the outer wall of the sun room and then vanished for 3 weeks waiting for the screens - no outside wall for 3 weeks - not nice when it rained, they forgot to tell us that it would take 3 weeks to re-enclose the room. They added 2 new doors from the sun room to the house, we have been able to use one of them, the other doesn't really open and close without a jimmy. Nice people, just really bad control. They did come back to fix things so the deck would pass inspection, normally only had to call 6 or 7 times per failure.

    Finish Carpentry Services
Michael Siegrist redid our back screened in deck with IPE wood. He also did other much needed repairs on the back deck. Additional repairs were only done after discussion and he always gave an accurate estimate of cost. He was meticulous and thorough. He made sure the job was done properly. He is punctual and kept me informed of his progress. If he couldn't be here to work, he always let us know. We have been very happy with his work and definitely will call him again in the future.

    House Doctors Handyman of Charleston
House Doctors was immediately responsive and I was quickly able to schedule a time with Annette to have Jack come out and review what we needed done. Jack arrived promptly and went over each item with me. Within a day I had a proposal for the work and when I requested some changes those were implemented without issue. I was highly impressed that when there was something we needed done that they didn't cover, Jack referred me to a competent person who could handle the work. The team arrived to do the work right on time and worked quicker than I expected to complete the tasks. The work areas were cleaned up as if they had never been there. One item I requested a slight change on was accommodated without issue and each of the items was completed exactly as we hoped. All in all it was a great experience with House Doctors and I wouldn't hesitate to call them again or recommend them to others.

    Express Sunrooms
Our new decks are beautiful! The company provided the replacement decking and discounted the labor for replacing the rotten decks. My husband assisted by removing the rotted out decks and helping with the construction of the new ones to cut down on our additional capital outlay. Scott redesigned the footings and supports to insure that the rot would not occur again. We are pleased with our new decks.

    CRC Improvements
Charles Cook is prompt and responsive. He ensures a quality result personally and will not consider the job done, until you are completely satisfied. I was thoroughly impressed with how easy it was to be in touch and his promptness to get the job done. He is trustworthy and honest. I highly recommend him.

    Charleston Painting Contractors
Job was estimated in a timely fashion and work completed at a mutually agreed upon time. Painters arrived punctually and worked carefully, cleaning up the area each evening before leaving. Painting took slightly longer than originally projected, but they did an exceptional job.

    Express Sunrooms
These guys are one of the most professional contractors I've ever worked with. From the estimator/sales guy (Randy) to the installers and foremen, Express Sunrooms are responsive, knowledgeable and courteous. When the Town of Mt. Pleasant surprised us with a sudden permitting requirement, ES took care of it quickly without delaying my job. They also did me a favor by rushing the work to be completed before a party we were having. We love our deck and feel ES did good work.
You will pay a little more to get them, but they are worth it if you want a company that calls you back promptly and displays a high level of professionalism - hard to come by when searching for a contractor!

    The Renovators Inc
Shannon Davidson and his partner Chris Hicks came highly recommended, so we thought we had a good contractor. The role of the GC is to make sure the work is done according to what was agreed upon at the time of contract. Unfortunately, not too long into the job, we discovered that we had a texting contractor who would rarely appear at the site to supervise his subs, but who could be counted on to show when he needed money. The job was no small job. It included a very large bluestone patio, an outdoor kitchen, pergola, fountain, and a total kitchen rip out and renovation inside. Since this contractor turned out not to be hands- on, we constantly had subs showing up unsupervised. This became quite problematic with the patio. The grouting was amateurish at best. They even laid the patio over our sprinkler system even though it was clearly marked. These things made it necessary to rip up a great deal of the grout and redo it, and it required fixing the sprinkler system and addressing a drainage issue ? one that should have been addressed before construction as we agreed on. Most things had to be redone 2 or 3 times. If I weren?t supervising the best I could, more of the job outside would have had to be redone. The outdoor kitchen had to be redone a couple of times due to incorrect measurements. The granite top had to be redone because a template was never made. The plumbing and electrical work constantly required additional visits due to mistakes or misunderstandings because we had no one on site overseeing the job etc.  These conditions lengthened the job considerably. The contractor made good on these corrections, but the inconvenience was immense. For the pergola, I was introduced to the carpenters who were going to build it, but they failed to show and new ones were sent. A load of wood was delivered and two guys showed up by themselves. I asked them how many pergolas they had built, and one of them admitted that he had experience with only one ? his personal one. The other gentleman had no experience building one. They were sent with no plans as well. I was asked by my contractor via text to give them a photo of what I wanted. Later, I was asked to trace out the shape of the ends of the beams directly onto the wood. I felt I had to be there all the time because of this lack of supervision of the subs.  I ended up researching and buying brackets for the pergola so I could end up with a pergola that was close to the one I showed to my contractor originally.  In the end, the pergola came out okay, but the patio floor was a huge disappointment (see photos), and there were structural problems with the outdoor kitchen. Grout covers most of the stones in many places, and generally looks sloppy.  Inside our house, similar problems were occurring. The lack of attention to detail, lack of supervision of subs, subs acting unprofessionally (complaining, voicing concerns about getting paid, and throwing fits) and missing cabinet components, made this as stressful as the outside work. I had sub contractors at my home on weekends and at night. Since nothing was covered, as agreed upon, the dust created a huge mess, and keeping my furnishings clean was almost impossible.  I made my displeasure known to this contractor over and over again about the texting, the problems on site, and the problems with some subs, but he failed to make any meaningful changes. It was found out during the job, that this contractor had 13 jobs going and my husband and I felt that our job ? although totaling almost $75,000 worth of work was not that important to him, or he was just spread too thin. The worst of it was not having the permits pulled for this job that we stressed from the beginning and insisted on throughout the job, only to finally give up in the end due to the lack of coordination of the time frame. I believe the plumbing work and electrical was done properly with my own supervision, but it was not what we agreed on and it generated much stress on my part.  The patio is requiring us to make costly repairs, and issues with the outdoor kitchen still haven?t been resolved. I had to hire a structural engineer, a new contractor, and have lost a lot of time dealing with these problems. Chris Hicks and Shannon Davidson have broken appointments, and basically misrepresented what they would do to remedy the situation. Avoid these guys.....

    St. John's Building Consultants
Communication was atrocious.  David Waldrop and Gene Girouard were dependable for filling me in.  What was estimated to be a 4-6 day job was spread out over a month (weather was a factor, but not for a month).  Clean up was done but not thorough.  The quality of work (Gene and Brandon) seems good so far.  Thanks to Gene telling me as he left, I now know the reason my porch floor boards were rotting was because my roof needs a metal valley shield.  That's monumental information that should not have been simply mentioned in parting.
During the long, drawn out projects, I got excuses like, "wrong lumber", "short staffed", "wrong paint color", "he's new".
I respect Gene Girouard from this company but I do not recommend St. John's Building Consultants.
