    Decker Home Repairs LLC
asked Decker Home repairs for an estimate for many items. Decided to have them finish an install of a stove hood that W&G contractors / painters abandoned. After i called and advised i wanted to have the work done, it took close to 2 weeks for a return call with a date. 3 major issues that made  me rate them with a "F".  i was home when all the work was being done which I am so glad i was. This vent required a 7  inch duct since it was high performance. The installer (Joshua) went and purchased a 4 inch roof cap , had reduced the 7 inch pipe to 4 inch and was getting ready to install it on the roof when I questioned the reduction from 7 inch to 4 inch.  He first said there was no 7 inch Duct available at Lowes. I told him it was a requirement to have a 7 inch pipe. He said he could not get one so 4inch was ok - and told me my hot water heater had a small pipe so it was ok that way with my exhaust too. I told him it was not the case and needed a 7inch roof cap. He tried calling someone a Decker to get help but got no answer. i told him i would look online and locate one. Lowes did have the roof vent. If I did not look I would have an inferior system.
He got the correct roof cap but needed to come back to finish the job since it was late.  The opening in the cabinets had a larger hood and needed pieces of wood to fill in the opening now. He was having a difficult time screwing in the first side. He saw some of my tools and grabbed what he needed and said i need to use this. The hood was put in slighltly off center so both opening were different sizes.Instead of trimming the second piece of wood he banged it in bending the range hood and seperating the side of the cabinet. Finally instead if drilling pilot holes he just screwed the pieces to my existing cabinet cracking the cabinets in multiple places.  When i was to sign off the ticket and pay him i showed him the damage he did, and said it was shoddy work. i said I would sign the slip anyways. I was afraid of what his fix could be.  He did not apologize, offer to fix it just left mad. Also the second day he had his radio playing with what i would consider offensive music but i said nothing as i just wanted him to finish up and get out.

    ProStar Services
I originally hired this firm to conduct a number of repairs and retrofits around my house, in advance of closing on it (I'm the purchaser, and the arrangements around living in the house prior to the purchase are a long and irrelevant story).  The work to be done included replacing the master bathroom floor & part of the plumbing, installing GFI outlets in both bathrooms and the kitchen, installing a garbage disposal in the kitchen sink, building and installing handrails for both porches, and other minor jobs.  Although the major work-- the bathroom floor-- took longer than I would have liked, I can't fault the dedication to the job shown by the person who did the work.  It took him around fix days to complete.  I wouldn't have minded that, except that each day he was here, he promised to be at my house at whatever hour of the morning, and only once showed up before 4pm.  This meant that he was working past midnight each day he was here.  Perhaps that's not a problem in a commercial building, but in a private residence it's very much a nuisance!

The work was of high enough quality, though, that after it was done, when I discovered a couple of additional items that needed addressed (a missing window pane needs replaced and my dishwasher won't drain), I called them again.  That was last week.  I was originally promised that the person assigned the work would be here Saturday, and wasted the day waiting.  I finally received a call from the worker on Sunday, and arranged for him to be at my house this evening at 6:30.  I called him at 6pm, and he reported that he'd be here in around an hour.  I wasn't at all upset about a mere 30 minute delay, but when the clock reached 8pm and I hadn't heard back... let's just say I'm not happy and leave it at that.

I did manage the reach the company owner, and he's promised to call me back in the morning.  Forgive the sarcasm, but I believe this means I should hear back from him sometime around next Thursday.

In all fairness to this company, though: I recommended them to a friend of mine for some tile repair work she needs done.  Their owner met with her quickly and on time, and recommended someone else for the work.  He was concerned that his people didn't have the requisite skill to make the repair without damaging surrounding tiles, but he knows someone who specializes in that sort of work.  I consider that behavior very ethical, and am impressed with his commitment to doing the work right the first time.

    TERRY'S APPLIANCE SERVICE
Although he wasn't there when he said he would be--he did call. As my schedule was very flexible that day--it wasn't a problem. I know that individual repairs can cause delays, based on what issues are at hand. I called him based on a referral from another repair service--(that no longer repaired dishwashers) and he called me back that evening and I didn't have to wait for weeks for an appointment. He communicated well with me, explained the problem and showed me the cause and fixed it.

    Whites Appliance Inc
Had some issues with the repair employees being overbooked but in the end Alan made it right.  Dryer is now working and David was very nice and helpful to my mom.
