    Saluda Hill Landscapes
We wanted to say a sincere thank you and recognize how amazing the team at Saluda Hill have been during the process of building and moving into our new dream home. Starting with the design, Phil and Richard were so patient and attentive to our needs and style and what they came up with was truly wonderful. It was even better than what we had hoped for and encompassed all our desires for a modern, beautiful, and fully functional landscape design. When it came time to do the install, the Saluda Hill team was there everyday, always willing to listen and answer our questions. The team's dedication to detail and wanting to ensure our happiness was something we will always be grateful for and is rare to find. Everyone from the supervisors to the crew members were friendly, helpful, and always complimentary of our home. We could tell they took great pride in their work and were personally invested to see our project completed to the best of their ability despite the fact that the size and scope of our project was significant with many difficult challenges. We also appreciated how Saluda Hill was able to handle all of our landscaping needs. From design to install, lighting to irrigation, and ongoing maintenance, it was great to know we could trust one company to handle any and everything related to our landscaping project. As a final testament to their excellence, Phil and the entire Saluda Hill team have been incredibly generous and thorough with any and all follow-up requests. They never failed to return our calls or get back to us quickly and they always worked to resolve problems quickly and professionally. They even helped us after several major storms with problems that were not their fault but due to mother nature only. That is just who they are. We would recommend Saluda Hill without hesitation as the rare company that has the resources to handle any project but still provides the personal attention that is so important when building your dream home!

    Tru Renovations
Gabe Baker showed up and was very professional, I explained what I wanted, he let me know what the possibilities were as far as lumber decking or brick. He told me he would get back to me in a couple days with a quote including materials and labor. The next day he gave me a quote of $1100 for material and said he would do the labor for $350 for the lumber and $600 for the brick. I told him I would see if I could come up with the $1450 for the lumber deck. He told me that he would contact me again Monday and see if he could come up with a better deal, knowing I am a single mom with 5 children. Monday came and I received several text from Gabe as seen below from the pictures of my messages on my phone. He flat out told me that he would charge me for materials and would take off the $350 for labor if I would spend an hour with him. Being a lady I thought there is no way he is asking what I think he is asking, he seemed very professional so I asked, what do you mean spend an hour with you? Do you mean going over the plans for the deck, I can do that? He replied saying when and where. I said, you pick I have an appointment tomorrow at 9:30 but I am free after that. He said your place good? I said, sure that way I can visualize what ever plans you might come up with better. He said will your kids be home? This of course struck me as a little odd but again I thought, he probably wants to keep things professional and make sure we are not alone which is exactly the kind of woman I am so I replied and said, yep they will be home. To which he replied, I don't think we are on the same page. confused I said, I'm very blunt for a woman so why don't you just spell it out for me. And then it hit me like a ton of bricks. I am not unintelligent but I sometimes see more good in people than there really is obviously and give too much benefit of the doubt. So I said, Do you mean meet you for ***? To which he began apologizing for his asking and admitting that he was out of line and then said, just go with the original price I gave you plus the $350 labor, but if you refer me to someone else I will give you $500 off the price. I was so upset and angry at this point that I didn't reply at all. He texted and asked, do you still want me to do the job? I replied No thank you. Its all in the text conversation below. I wanted to let people know about this because there is just absolutely no excuse for this kind of belittling garbage and its not okay to get away with it at all. A couple hours later I had to ask becasue it had insulted me so badly, and no real man would degrade a woman to this extent so I had to ask a pig such as he to attempt to find understanding. Why was I in your mind classified as the kind of woman you solicate for prostitution, because you flat out offered me money in exchange for *** with that request, rather than being seen as the kind of woman you respect and take home to meet your mom? he replied that he was attracted to me and his "cave man" instincts kicked in. Seriously?? My 18 year old son asked me.. what should he have done instead if he really liked you? To which I told him, as a professional you stay focused on your job rather than your desires so it should have just been a note of attraction in his mind and nothing else said but if he really was attracted to me and wanted anything more than just a one night stand, he should have given me a fair quote, done the job and did it well, then when the job was complete and the transaction was finished, he could have simply said, I was wondering if there if by any chance you would be interrested in going out to dinner with me so I can get to know you a little better? That way I had the chance to let him know if I am available or interested in him as well and we could have gone from there or I would have told him I am flattered but I am really not interrested but thank you. To which he could have simply said I completely understand I just didnt want to regret not asking later incase you were, I wish you the best and we both go about our business. My son agreed that would have been a much more professional and gentlmanly way to approach the situation. No matter what, this is the most disgusting degrading way to approach a woman and it is beyond sexual harrassment. This man now knows where I live, he violated my place of solitude and degraded my character as a strong independant woman who has worked my whole life to provide for my children and it should not be tolerated. Now you are informed of ust the kind of man who is offering to do "quality work" for you. Husbands be warned of leaving him alone with your wives to do work, and woman be warned of the kind of man you may intend to be hiring for work. Be safe.

    Outdoor Lighting Perspectives Of Columbia
We had another company do our home in Ohio, so we called that franchisee to do our home after moving here.  The street side lighting they did was okay, although areas were dark.  I always thought the lake side deck looked like 'Disney's 'Haunted Mansion' - creepy.  We met Mike at the Home Show and called him about a year ago to added subtle lights to the street side in those dark areas.
This July we called him again and he suggested the lights should not be positioned from the deck up, but from the eaves area down.  The crew had to climb a ladder two stories up to install 4 lights.  Positioning for effect was critical and I'm sure they didn't want to return to make adjustments in the dark.  But their expertise showed - they got all 4 right the first time.
The lake side view is so much better.  Within a week one neighbor stopped to compliment us on the appearance from their boat.
In addition Mike took the old lights and highlighted 3 palm trees that hadn't been done before and the whole look is fantastic.

Nick looked at the area and has some great suggestions for additional lighting for some statuary and Japanese Maples.  He is very creative with landscape lighting.  Earlier the spring we had him for some follow-on landscape work.  We had 3 large shrubs that he planted in August 2013 and which were not well established by the time we had really cold weather. Two of them were in tough shape this spring and even though parts of them were still living Nick replaced them so that the 3 would be the same size. Technically he didn't have to do that but Nick is very focused on customer satisfaction and service.  We will use him again and recommend him to others without reservation.  Nick is great to work with!

Bryan's Lawn Maintenance and Landscape Inc
What a completely frustrating situation!! Bryan, the owner, had a chip on his shoulder the entire time! He didn't seem to want to hear our opinion. He was quick to get angry with us if we offered our opinion or questioned him. He treated us like we were his insubordinate employees!

WORK SCHEDULE: Bryan informed us at the interview that our job was a large job. He said that once they started work on our yard, they would work EVERY day until completion. We were also told that our job would be the only job they worked on until our job was completed. However, that didn't happen. First, they didn't start when they said they would. Then, weeks at a time would go by where NO ONE showed up. My messages would not always be returned when I called to find out why they were not working. Then they would show up at 1:30-2:00 and quit around 3:30. That became the pattern for the ENTIRE summer! His "large" crew usually consisted of 2 or 3 people! In fact, they didn't work on Fridays, never worked a full day and never worked more than 3 days per week. Communication was HORRIBLE!

WEATHER: We did have a VERY rainy summer and Bryan constantly blamed the weather on his inability to get the job done. Just the threat of rain kept them away! However, we had so many beautiful days that no one showed up to work and no one called to explain their absence!

PLANTS: We found shrubs that had been placed in holes and never covered by dirt! Some plants died & we've had to pay to replace them. We asked for NO magnolia trees and he installed 5!! All of them held up by 5 ugly wooden UNPAINTED OR STAINED very weathered trellis' that we were told were needed to hold the trees up! They are definitely an eyesore!!

PAVERS: I was VERY clear on the color of pavers (tan) that I wanted installed....I even showed him a photo & he said that he understood completely! Well he may have understood, but he didn't care what I wanted because he layed out GRAY pavers!!! I put my foot down immediately & he argued that they were identical to the picture that I'd showed him. I insisted that they were not & he said well when they are wet, they look more tan!! One of his employees heard me arguing with Bryan & he later told me that Bryan knew they weren't right but that he'd ordered them before asking me and they could not be sent back! I was also worried about weeds and ant beds forming between the pavers. Bryan insisted that would never happen.....guess what? It happened!!!!

COSTS: No doubt, we were grossly overcharged!!

CONCLUSION: Overall, at the interview, we received lots of promises but in the end we were sadly let down! What should have been a fun experience ended up being a horrible experience that we wished had never happened! To complete our vision of a backyard oasis, we had to hire another company to come in and finish what Bryan's company did not do. This was a total disappointment and certainly doesn't look like we spent almost $50,000!

Nick and his crew were careful and professional did a great job and had all the neighbors commenting on how hard they worked and how good the end result looked.  We had a bit of a scheduling problem because of all of the rain and the delays it caused but Nick was always cooperative with a "can do" attitude.  We had used Nick for fencing, landscape lighting and mulch at our previous home at Lake Murray and he has always been cooperative and willing to go the extra step to satisfy the customer.  We have no hesitancy in recommending him for any landscape or lighting work.

They have done what they said they were going to do. The stand behind their work. Our lighting looks really nice. We have worked with other companies and they are the best we have worked with. They are very easy to work with.

We are extremely pleased with him. He is extremely thorough, very trustworthy, and he does all he can and gets the job done right. One thing we like is that he does the job and then, if he does it during the day, he comes back at night to make sure that it's exactly you want it to be. We appreciate that. It's evident he really wants to please you and make sure you are happy with everything before he is final. I wouldn't use anybody else but them; their pricing was fair and the work that they do is just excellent craftsmanship.

Excellent, Nick and the crew stayed in touch and kept their word. Our yard looks so much better then we though it would.
Already planning to have Nick back for another project.  Nick is the kinda person I have always been used to dealing with being from a small town. Honest and friendly. I have found in this area it has been hard to find that. Nick was able to invision what I had in mind and it turned out even better. Our backyard now has Class!!!!! Thanks to Nick and the crew.

Joel and Jeramie (columbia) were wonderful. They were very responsive to my emails and phone calls. Their prices were reasonable compared to their competitors.
