They last I was there I had a male nurse. He had an attitude a mile long and he did not set up the IV correctly for a blood transfusion. You should have seen my hand 2 weeks later, it was swollen and the colors of the rainbow.

It was beautiful and very quiet.  Everything is behind closed doors, including the nurses station. Since it was built as a resort, I was in a big room, and fountains were everywhere. I got tremendous treatment. The bed was uncomfortable, but that was about all.

They're the ones that when they took their x-rays, they said it was just a hernia and it shouldn't be hurting. They didn't give me no prescriptions for pain. They said they were going to give me a shot before I left, for pain, and the nurse never came in. But they pretty much told me that it was nothing. The way I felt was like they were almost saying quit being a baby, it's a hernia, lots of people get hernias. I've been there before and had bad experiences as well. The place is clean. The doctors, themselves, seem very professional in the way they project themselves. You think you're the best help. I can't say it was all the doctors because I've been there quite a few times. I think maybe I just got a bad doctor that day. One bad doctor can change your thoughts on it. It just seems like the professionalism and how the bedside manner and everything each visit is getting a little less. It's like they don't have that top standard. I don't like to really put anybody down. I would probably tell people about my experience there and let them go on their own. I would probably say maybe I just got a bad doctor. It's right down the road from me but I won't go there anymore. I would rather die than be sent to Trident.

    MUSC Emergency Services
Overall, my experience with them was wonderful. I tell my husband if he ever comes home and I need emergency care that that's where I want to go. Trident is right down the road from me but I will not go there anymore. Here it was, they took me in immediately and Trident was acting as if it was nothing. MUSC pretty much as far as I see it saved my life. First off, it's a learning hospital and it doesn't bother me that other people are coming in because they need to see the different things that can happen to people when it happens. It does not bother me for students to be watching. Also, the doctors are wonderful there. Even the nurses were constantly checking on you and making sure you're comfortable. If you beep that bell, you didn't have to beep it like fifty times before somebody came. Overall, it was a very clean hospital. The people were really friendly, very professional, and I think it was a wonderful hospital. That's the only hospital I'll use. I'd rather die if I was going to be sent to Trident.

I went there because they have a knee and hip unit. The experience went wonderfully. Even before I had the surgery, they had me go to the hospital for a sort of seminar and they told us what was going to happen and how we were going to see it go and that we would be in a ward or in a room, probably by ourselves because of the pain level. And then they explained exactly what was going to take place during the surgery. It was about three hours long. The hospital and the staff were absolutely first rate.

We like the fact that it is a very progressive hospital and it is very close to us.  The doctors are definitely excellent.  The care they provide has been wonderful so far and it just continues to be as positive as it has been up to date.  We never had problems with their availability.  They are a hospital so getting things done in a timely basis is a little bit different.  The staff is very friendly.  They are very, very nice people.  We never had any problems there and we never had to go back to them with any concerns.  We are going to continue using them until we have beaten the cancer.

Emergency room staff was very good with my mother. They discovered she had out -of-control blood pressure and very low pulse rate. They attempted to lower her BP and raise her pulse and finally admitted her to the cardiac unit. The cardiac unit was very diligent with Mom and initially kept us apprised of her treatment. About the middle of the second week, they have moved her to another wing of the same floor. The nurses were again very diligent with mom, but we did experience an inability make good contacts with staff, either by phone or occasionally when we were there with her. The last week Mom was there, they called in another cardiology consult and the cardiologist decided she needed a pacemaker and would be transferred to Trident Regional Medical Center. The physician's PA asked if there were any family members that needed to be contacted about the procedure being done the next day and one of the nurses said her no, that she had never seen anyone visiting Mom. Of the three weeks there, I only missed visiting Mom 4 different days. So, no one called me that next morning to tell me that Mom was having surgery. I found out accidentally by calling Summerville Medical and being informed that she had transferred. After several calls, I located the physician's assistant and was informed that she was having the procedure done at that time. My brother and I arrived after the procedure was completed. We were not happy about not being able to be with Mom to reassure her before the procedure was done or to even know what the risks of surgery would be. Other than the lack of communication, we believe her overall care was very good at SMC.

I went in with a chest infection and I couldn't breath. They left me in the hallway for about 45 minutes with no oxygen and my oxygen level was extremely low. They did this when they administered me in. Finally, a doctor arrived and saw that I couldn't breathe and got me oxygen immediately in the hallway. It wasn't until they really saw that I was unable to breathe in the waiting room that they called me over and saw that my oxygen level was extremely low and then they brought me into the hallway but did not tall a doctor that I needed to be seen. I had fallen down couple of stairs when I was three months pregnant and I fell on my stomach and I went in and I was obviously bleeding and cut up from the concrete and stuff and they sent me back to maternity. Then they saw that I was bleeding and sent me back to the ER. When I was back to the ER, they were baffled at why I am back and my husband started ranting and raving, of course. They took me in immediately, but no one checked my stomach. When the doctor finally came in, she checked my ankles to make sure I didn't tear any tendons or do anything to my ankles. She didn't check my stomach for about five minutes then she decided to check the heartbeat and brought out the heartbeat monitor out to make sure that she was fine; and then she went to discharge me. The protocol is that I am supposed to be monitored for any fall when I am pregnant for four hours. I was told this by another doctor that I know happened to walk into my room to check on me. When I told him about this I actually hard him yelling at the other doctors for discharging me and not monitoring the fetus for four hours.

I have been using MUSC doctors since about 2009. I use various ones in different specialties. I have not had a bad experience. There may be some out there that have had bad experiences in different areas - but I have not. They have always been very good. I have been in the hospital at MUSC also and was VERY impressed. High level of care. Very attentive. I always recommend MUSC to my friends and family. I tell my out of state family to come to SC and use them as well. They ARE that good.

The surgeon we had was excellent. Her name was Dr. Jennifer Fiorini. She was outstanding. What I liked was that she was a female and was dealing with my 15-year-old daughter. She did a laparoscopic surgery in way that there was no scarring that would show. She took into consideration about the places where it would scar. She spoke to my daughter, my husband, and me as individuals and made us comfortable. She told us what she would and how she would take care of my daughter. I was confident that my daughter would be okay. We then went there for a follow-up. When we got there we realized that they were supposed to put the appointment in there, but they did not. It was the doctor's day off but the doctor was there in the office and she saw us. I think that was pretty cool too. The facility was not the cleanest place I had seen but I spent about six hours in emergency. It took so long because there was no bed available. It took a long time to get through emergency. I would not say that it was the hospital's fault. They were, however, very good with my daughter. The nurses kept checking on her.
