    SPLAT! Mosquito
    The mosquitoes in Charleston are RIDICULOUS! I called Splat, they came out 2 days later, sprayed my yard, and we've been mosquito free since! I signed up for monthly service so they come out once a month now, with NO CONTRACT. They said I could cancel anytime! And it was only $35. We've had heavy rains here every day for the past few weeks, even some flooding downtown and lower parts of the islands, and STILL my yard is mosquito free.

    Apparently my daughter and I emit a lot of CO2 or have the sweetest blood in the world because the mosquitoes insist on flocking to us no matter where we go. There's nothing I can do about it when we're out and about, other than deet of course, but when we're at home I would like to be able to enjoy a glass of wine on the patio while she jumps on the trampoline. It's the worst, especially because I care for my yard meticulously and the neighbor has a veritable swamp in his backyard, a breeding ground for mosquitoes that then make their way to our yard to eat us up. Splat is local, the same guys that do DoodyCalls, so I gave them a try and I couldn't be happier. It was SUPER affordable; I was expecting (and willing) to pay $150/200 for a treatment. It only cost me $35. I was so thrilled, and even more excited when it actually WORKED. The weather has finally decided to warm up and now we can spend the evenings in our backyard, grilling, playing, hanging out without beating ourselves up trying to kill mosquitoes. We have won the war!

    Atlantic Pest and Termite Management, Inc.
    Steve Selengut I was an Atlantic termite management customer for more than ten years, secure in the expectation that the $500 per year I was paying for bonded protection would serve me well when the time came to sell my property.... perhaps I was being a bit naive. Atlantic had charged about $1,500 (plus or minus) for the original termite treatment and inspection, and provided an annual "bond" that I assumed would be transferable to the new owners. Wrong again, they stiffed me for the seven months remaining on the bond... and so much as admitted that they would recharge the new owners for both an inspection and their annual bond on the same property! So when you sell a house in SC, you need to get a CL100 inspection for termites, a $100 dollar expense that one would expect you could count on as part of the service (termite bond!) provided by the company you've paid $5,000 to for protection. The form pretty much attests to the fact that they have been doing their job since you hired them. Nope. You have to pay them another $100 for a ten minute walk through, and a report that says nothing about either the structural integrity of the buildings or the absence of termites and other wood eating critters for the past ten years.... well there's 5 grand down the drain, and we're not done yet. So the buyers bank doesn't seem to trust Atlantic very much either, and with 48 hours 'till closing decides that it better get a "Clearance Letter" to make sure the building isn't about to crumble into the dust. You guessed it, Atlantic (Hunter Ford, to be precise) told me: "We're not qualified to prepare a Clearance Letter". Go figure, the company you've paid thousands to over the years is admittedly "unqualified" to attest to the effectiveness of their work... another $150 to an outside contractor for the clearance letter (do you think Atlantic gets a kickback?) Caveat Emptor! Think twice about using this outfit... they're just not qualified.

    Pest Free Pest Control
    They make appointments without bothering to find out if I'm available. Their hours are highly inflexible. They show up either VERY early (hour and a half) or very late (30 minutes), especially if they have to work on a Saturday because they apparently don't like to. Not everyone can take time off from work for a shoddy 5 minute walk-through inspection during which they don't even notice your serious any problem.

    I was having a spider problem and was astonished when the technician said he didn't go up in the attic to spray because "he doesn't go up in attics since he has had ladders/steps break on him".  Sent an email to the company and will update my review when I have received a response.   UPDATE:  Company called and scheduled another visit to finish the house/attic spray.

    Terminix - Charleston -Termite & Pest Control
    The first time, I explained that I moved here last spring, didn't opt for a contract with Terminix, and still don't want one. The second time, I reexplained this to the same tech and told him, in no uncertain terms, to go away. The third time, two techs came in two different trucks and said they were here to dig up and remove their bait stations from around my house. Each time they showed up out of the blue, not having mailed me any information or notification in advance. On the second visit, when I initially didn't answer my door, the tech walked over to one of my bait stations and began working without my permission.
    I can hardly believe such lack of professionalism! On the third - and better be the last - unwanted visit, I called the police, who witnessed my speaker-phone conversation with the manager, Randy, as the two techs waited at the curb of my property. I explained that the bait stations are part and parcel of my property that came along with the sale of it to me, and if they're so desperate to retrieve a few bits of plastic that may have been placed here by Terminix under prior/different ownership of this property, they should have removed said bits before that owner sold the property.
    Also, in talking with the Terminix corporate office, I learned that the manager (whose name has not been updated in their system, as they provided a different one) is a franchisee and can do what he wants. Well, he can no longer connect with my property unless he wants another police report about it.
    This is certainly no way to cultivate prospective customers. Buyer - and perhaps especially lack-of-buyer - beware!

    Ledford's Termite & Pest Control Inc
    Called this AM 11/17/15, mentioned to the person who answered the phone my intentions. Her reply, "we don't work Saturdays" . I then mentioned about a year ago a tech was at my home on a Saturday for the same reason, extremely friendly, said that Ledford's wants to earn my business and being here on a Saturday was not a concern, hence why they were the very first company to call now that I'm financially ready to commit to a long term agreement. I then asked her, you were at my home a year ago on a Saturday and are you not interested in my business, response, "hold on", so with that I hung up, not the way I want to start a long term Realtionship with.

    TruGreen Lawn Care - 5069
    After two years with Scotts, we have the worst lawn in the neighborhood. Some of the sod has died, and we have more weeds than lawn. We recently paid for treatment of fire ants. This treatment was supposedly guaranteed. We have ant hills everywhere, and they won't come back. They promise to send a manager out, but no one ever shows up. They hound you to buy more and more services but don't stand behind their products.

    Save your money and hire a local lawn service. We went with Scotts because of their name, but they have failed to deliver. You can read lots of terrible reviews of this company online. Unfortunately, we failed to do our homework before hiring them.

    Justin arrived on time and explained what he was going to do as well as asked what the issues were.   He was very professional and nice as well as letting me know when he was finished.  I would use them again.   As of now my fire ant issue is no longer in my yard.

    Coastal was very quick to return my original request and put us on schedule quickly.  We were flexible since this is a second home for us and were not physically present during the inspection.  They said that they inspected the property for rodents and did find evidence of previous rodents but none were present during their inspection.  They ultimately left a bait box.  When we returned to the home, a critter clearly had died in the attic.  My major complaints were not with the responsiveness but with other things that we asked for.  We asked for a quote on termite treatment and service and asked for a quote on what they would charge to rodent proof the house...we have yet to receive either of these.
