Tile Installation reviews in Johns Island

    Evangeline Construction
It went great. Danny is a true professional and everything he does is done perfectly the first time around. He was very responsive when I emailed to ask him to do additional work on some torn dry wall.

An awful experience. Installers knew nothing about tiling, kept making rookie mistakes until called out by myself, and having to correct them. Tile was not laid straight, leveling was done poorly in places, not at all in others. Thresholds were badly installed, tile was chipped after installation. Some tile was laid with glue! I have absolutely no confidence in the installation. The worst tile installation I have ever experienced.

    Palmetto Carpet & Floor Coverings
You have to understand that Palmetto Carpet and Floor Coverings hires subcontractors to
install the variety of products they sell. I had a tile floor installed so my
comments will only apply to tile installation. First the sales people are low
pressure and help you purchase what you what not what they want to sell you. There
is no ?upselling? pressure to purchase a more expensive product. Great people
to work with. Now the installers. Two brothers showed up and they were
experienced (one told me he has been doing this for 18 years), professional,
and extremely competent. They are respectful of your home and realize it is not
a construction site but your home. They protected my hardwood floor and sealed
off the room in which they were working with plastic to keep the dust at a minimum.
They hand carried all the debris out and did all the cutting outside. The
quality of the tiling was first rate. They also installed quarter round molding
to finish the job. I was concerned that tile installers would not also be good
finish carpenters. I was wrong. The molding they installed is some of the best
installation in our house. I would use them again and recommend them to

Thomas provided us excellent insights  on how to remodel an old 1950's galley kitchen and update  and enlarge the existing space.
His estimate for services was very fair and he provided receipts for materials and labor for each week of the approximately five week project. He also allowed us flexibility to use our own plumber and electrician or else use the folks he usually utilized, as well as suggesting sources for cabinets. We wound up using our own plumber and Thomas' electrician.
Costs for the plumbing and electrical work were broken out separately from the demolition, reconstruction, refinishing, and final finishing.
Coordination with plumber and electrician were very good, and communication with us was timely, and comprehensive.
When the electrician recommended we replace all the old knob and tube wiring, and we had to basically rewire the entire upstairs of our house all the required access holes in the walls and ceiling were repaired by Thomas' crew.
Thomas' workers were polite, efficient, cleaned up after each day on the job, and quality of work was very good. Thomas checked progress each morning and afternoon, and any corrective action was done promptly and completely.
    We highly recommend Thomas Koch.

What a great company! Drew, the owner, called me back immediately, and throughout the process was accessible and helpful. I chose to pick stock tile from a local store and pick it up myself in an effort to save money, and yet I never felt that this had an effect on the way that the company dealt with me and valued my business. The guys who installed the tile, Buddy and Travis, were skilled and professional, friendly and very easy to deal with; pleasant to have in my home. There were the understandable and common glitches in the project. In all situations, Drew and his team were pleasant and reasonable, made certain that I understood what was going on and their thinking in dealing with the issue, and reassuring. After the project was finished, I realized that it would not be possible for me to install quarter round moulding in one bathroom, and contacted Drew. He was very gracious and arranged to have his team come back and make certain that the grout finishing around the edge was done. As a woman handling these sites alone, I felt completely comfortable working with Drew's company. That is priceless! I did not feel patronized or dismissed, my concerns were addressed respectfully, and I felt completely comfortable with this crew in my home and the quality of the work that was done. I would recommend them to anyone I know, and wouldn't bother to get quotes from any other company the next time I need flooring done. An Angie's List Winner!!

We recently renovated 3 bathrooms in our home on Johns Island. Originally I found Jared on Craig's but he was also on Angie's List, with good ratings which was a PLUS! We met with Jared and he followed up promptly.  At the time he had a back injury but he assured us that he would be fine to start our project when we were ready.  We really liked Jared and he had a great website, great ideas, and came with great references! So needless to say we were very excited!
We had a function coming up in April for 100 guests and discussed the possibility of starting and completing the work before our deadline.  He told us that the job would take 3 weeks with two guys on it full time.  We decided to go ahead since we had over 7 weeks until our function.  Unfortunately Jared was unable to do the work due to his back and sent us  a guy whom he said he trusted and did great work.  The three week job with 2 guys ended up being 7 weeks with one guy and turned into a very hostile situation by the end.  The job was not completed (not counting some punch list items) until the DAY BEFORE our event.  We ended up with some chipped tile, poor paint work, as well as some other minor issues and we were billed for several extra charges that we were not made aware of.  The work was not what we expected based on the website and the reviews we had obtained prior to hiring him.  We do not know if this is the level of work he always does or if the work suffered because Jared was unable to do it himself.
Jared told my husband several times how he was not making any money on our job, which we both thought was very unprofessional.  When we provided the punch list, Jared came in and helped the other guy do the items on the list.  They did not go over it with us and when we told them that there were still items left incomplete, we were told that we were only allowed one punch list.
Jared was very hostile to my husband about coming back to fix anything else but at the end did do most of them because we were not paying until the job was complete. There is so much more I could say but it would take hours. It was not a pleasant experience and I would not recommend or rehire Jackson Remodeling, especially if Jared cannot guarantee he will be doing the tile work. We have 2 other jobs we originally talked to him about doing but at this point we will search for someone else to do the job. Very disappointed!

    First John llc Remodeling/Repairs
Let me say from the outset that John Altenburg is the best contractor on the planet and I couldn?t be happier about my beautiful new home.  John and his talented crew did an exceptional job!  The most remarkable part of this story is that he did a total house renovation and I never stepped foot in the house until it was completed.   In 2012 my husband and I bought a house on Kiawah that we
loved but that was very outdated.  We got bids from 3 contractors and then added a fourth down the road.  The bids were all over the map.  John was the only contactor who said if you want to spend some time going ove details (at an hourly charge) we can get more to the core of what you want.  John has a very laid back and calm personality but he is very sharp, insightful, intelligent and really understands the remodeling process. I am a very creative person but I don?t always understand how to implement what I want.  I am also a very visual person and require that someone be able to effectively communicate what is taking place with visuals.  If I didn?t get it he would draw me a picture and email it to me.  He painted mock ups and sent me samples of
trim, granite, vanities, floor etc.  He would take photos of grout samples with the corresponding tile, he took me on video tours of the progress.  He did tape mock ups of various projects so I could decide where towel bars should go, to gauge the size of certain areas etc.  When problems arose (very few), he would let me know so that we could figure out a solution and solve the problem.  For example, the shower tile was the same as the floor tile but a different size.  When he opened the floor tile it was a different dye lot.  He went to the tile company and sat down with the representative and they came up with a phenomenal choice of a completely different tile.  A couple of sinks and faucets were wrong and he took them to the plumbing supplier to remedy the problem and kept me calm about the problem. The best part about how John works and my personality and the remodeling process is the fact that he allowed me to be so hands on.  I ordered most of the products, such as the light fixtures, tile, hardware, specialty grout, appliances, plumbing supplies and etc.  We had an agreement that I would order things in a timely manner so as not to cause problems for his timetable.  I loved that!

The projects:  full gut kitchen, full gut guest bathroom, powder room and master bath.  Built new closets, a custom seashell fireplace, installed new flooring and painted rooms and trim.  Awesome!
I had a vision of having LED lights for the master bath vanity mirrors, custom tile mirror frames, and LED lights for the vessel sinks, all of which he executed flawlessly. I wanted a sea shell fireplace with a new mantel.  I ordered the shells, laid them out and photographed them and he built the fireplace with the design.  I am including before and after photographs.  I cannot tell you how many have been amazed by this remodel.  It?s not just about John?s capabilities as a contractor but it is about his personality, his work ethic, his enthusiasm, his commitment, his choice of subcontractors and his ability to listen and implement a client?s dream for their project.  I have never been as happy with a service provider as I have been with John and I have employed many!  Let the before and after photographs speak for themselves.  You would be lucky if John
is available to work on your project.

They were very good. They were competitively priced. They kept the schedule. They were very professional with what they did. It was luxury vinyl tile. Tile with stone. A new process and they were very proficient at it.

Unfortunately for Paul and his crew, they were walking into a mess left by a previous individual who was unqualified to do the work and had left me with a disaster. You could say this was an episode of HGTV's  "Fix my Renovation" .  I had to wait six months to save enough to redo everything and then find someone who was willing to do a smaller, lower end job. Paul was willing to accept it and his price quote was 2,400-4,400 less than all other previous quotes I had received. He was also willing to work with me, because I had purchased some things already and what I wanted redone needed to be available at Home Depot or Lowes. Upon initial inspection, he recommended I redo the travertine tile on the floor( it was not level and one could stub their toes on it),  gut the hideous tiled tub surround back to studs and redo backer board, make a double niche, and retile with the 6X8 subways and mosaic I had purchases. He would reset my bathroom window correctly ( it had been moved over due to the new tub being two inches wider) and it was now open to the outside and letting in spiders! Initially he also thought we could repair the damaged drywall but then recommended it all be replaced because it would not have been cost effective to try and fix it.  This also ensured  I had green board where required. He also had to redo some structural work and make it level for the plumbing side of the shower wall. His quote also would include replacing bathroom door, baseboard installation, installing vanity and linen cabinet ( this would require some additional cabinetry work, ie. skin installation, creating a filler pieces and adding crown molding to top of linen tower) electrical work ( Moving two GFI outlets as well as the box for the vanity light, installing said light, installing a ceiling light/fan combo with an auto sensor for humidity that also required rewiring for a 3-way switch) and also setting the toilet in place.  He agreed to start the following week. He was actually able to start a day earlier . That worked out perfectly, as I was able to be on hand to answer questions and see what potential problems would arise. The first day they gutted and discovered the shower plumbing had been leaking behind the wall, the mixer valve was no good and the faucet was ruined due to grout imbedded in it from previous work. They also reworked the structural issue on that wall as well so drywall could go up. The next day drywall was installed, plumbing redone in shower and the backer board was going up. Also drywall guy was brought in to do first mud coat. Third day included sanding and  doing a second mud coat, floor tile installed that evening, and backer board finished in the shower. By the end of fifth day ,shower was tiled, floor, walls and window were done. On day seven and eight the cabinetry was installed, electrical finished , grouting done, all shower parts ie. faucet, shower head and grab bars installed,  door put in and toilet set.

As a side note, on the second day, Paul referred me to the person he used for granite and I was able to get a gorgeous scrap piece installed for way less than Lowes would have charged me.

Paul and his crew were easy to work with, friendly, knowledgeable, honest, always on time, kept the work site clean and if problems arose( and there were numerous unforeseen  issues) they were quick to address them with me and find a timely and reasonably priced solution. They even went out of there way to pick up the door and tile for me. I will definitely be using them again for future home remodeling projects.

I contracted Drew with Harbor Flooring, LLC through a USMC friend.  While Drew is not a Marine, I knew my Marine friend wouldn't steer me wrong.  My wife and I had already purchased the tile many months before and just needed someone knowledgeable to install it.  He arrived when he said he would and gave us some advice on color of ground and compound and how to frame the tile with edging.  He took care of ordering all of the materials he needed for the job.  His invoice came in exactly as he quoted.  He arrived on a Saturday morning, worked all day, and then came back the next day to finish up in the morning.  We loved the work he performed.  He was professional, responsive, cleaned up after himself and just worked with little interruption.  He is very good with email and phone calls which is a major plus in my opinion.  I will use him again if I ever need tile or wood flooring done.
