I drove around the beach a little the remainder of that day and the next day and the truck seemed ok - no different that it had been except the rear end knock was gone.  I left to return home the next day at 9:30 am and drove approx 50 miles pulling my lightweight camper (that I had previously pulled with my wife's 4.8 liter Jeep Cherokee without problems and this truck for the past 2 1/2  years) when I stopped at a stop light and smelled fumes but there was traffic around me.  After taking off from light I noted smoke pouring out of rear of truck all over the front and down the back of my camper.  I pulled over and called Addy's Dodge and was told they would send a wrecker.   This  was approximately 11-11:30 am. Th wrecker arrived around 2:30 -3 pm and loaded the truck and pulled the camper back to Addy's Dodge.  Upon arrival an older man (around my age) who seemed to know what he was doing, checked vehicle, test drove it and put it on the rack. He informed me man who did work on vacation.  Told me he thought transmission overfilled since it was now only 1/2 quart low and it looked like much more than this had sprayed out on my camper and overfilling transmission would cause it to overheat. I was not at all comfortable with this and thought transmission should be pulled since I had just spent $5957.01 but the service people and mechanic assured me that if I had any problems I could take it to any Dodge dealer.  Asked what do do if I broke down and they gave me the tow company's number.  I went back to campground and stayed 2 more days and left camper in storage and drove home without problems.  I don't drive this truck a lot due to mileage so 1 1/2 month and less than 400 miles later I noted a large puddle of transmission fluid under truck.  Took to local dealer- long story short, they did not honor warrenty.  Called Addy's Dodge and talked to the  most sarcastic person I have ever talked with who told me to contact service advisor who had taken care of me initially.  After several days of messages to service advisor and service manager, the advisor who had initially taken care of me called back and told me I could bring the truck back to them 270 miles away and if it was determined that they were at fault, it would be taken care of.  I would have had truck towed but if it was determined it was not their fault, I would be stuck with a tow bill and another transmission reubuild.  I took to my long time friend and mechanic who told me some bushing had spun off torque converter causing it to move around. Also told individual parts had been used instead of a rebuild kit and for what I had spent, I could have gotten a factory rebuilt transmission which would have had a warrenty at any Dodge dealer. I talked to Dodge customer service- initial person took information seemed sympathetic.  Contacted next day and told local dealer did not have to honor warrenty and I could take it back to dealer.  I just hope someone else may be able to learn from my experience.
